  • Haw is for forward and Gee is for backwards, in horse talk

  • @m1gijoe

No gee is turn right and haw is turn left.

truth to tell...Arkansas farm gal...my pa (grandfather) used a horse or mule for plowing..sometimes he used a double team..two horses, etc,

Gee means turn right and Haw means turn left....both hands are on plow handles and straps are tied around the persons waist..if he has to take a hand off the plow he reaches to the strap lines to turn right or left. Another thing You cannot plow backwards! ~Rita

  • Gee haw!!! I love the American culture :) Thanks for explaining what means gee haw :D

  • r.i.p. grandpa jones

  • Very god.

  • Coming to America on thursday, this is getting me in the mood :D

  • We still use gee and haw on our farm.

  • Guess you guys don't plow much - it's important to keep both hands on the plow, so your mules have to be trained to turn right when you say "gee", and left when you say "haw".

  • Those commands are the same with a sled dog team. :)

  • Yee and Haw refer to what you what tell the mule pulling the wagon. You'd yell Yee for Left and Haw for Right.

  • oh really? didn't know that...

Well, here in Texas, we yell "yee-haw" a lot, but that's really more just from tradition...

  • @jnizny The word is "gee," not "yee." Gee means go right and haw means go left.

  • Isn't it 'Gee', and not 'Yee'? It's still a good song. Thanks!

  • Yee-haw?

  • @winglessdove

    yep,its gee haw
