A deep but lightly intellectual muse into music - at it's best - just open your curtains (at night) - when sober and just ENJOY this track, it's a cracker, music and lyricks just blend giving you a dream like state of euphoria - when the ships "sailed into the night".........WOW.........A1+++++
When I was 18 I bought Feline, took it home, and put it on my turntable. I then smoked 4 Dunhill Special Filters, lay on my bed and watched the ceiling spinning around whilst it was playing - magic! (Kids, don't try this at home.)
I hadnt got channel 4 at home. I knew this was going to be on. I rang an aerial erector in my home town and asked if I could hire one... Yes I was that in to the stranglers. He said no need just come round here and watch the programme. he had teenage kids and I was wel comed to the house. How surreal... just like so much of the stranglers material. Very kind too, As for Feline, it was an album I didnt much klike, a was a bit languid.
A few things I've noticed about these vintage vids...for all the drugs Hugh and company were doing, they never made asses of themselves like most American icons (Doors, Dylan, etc, etc). and they had STYLE..check out Hugh"s head shake (not to mention guitar ability) and JJ's bass thumping...Miss the originality!
What I always loved about The Stranglers was the way they were so experimental and not afraid to try anything new! This was ahead of its time for the 80's! Saw them live and they were brilliant! They were at their best with Hugh as singer!
Hypnotic and deep in meaning, this song encapulsates feelings and moods of longing that transcend the period of the Stranglers influence on the music scene. A great timeless classic!
although nearly 30 years ago,I still recall this vid and the best bit was at the end jj s solo, the best bit is missing from the end of the clip anybody got a full clip

Amazing band...From the Jazz influenced drummer/percussionist - Jet Black...To the Classically trained guitarist/bassist J.J. Burnel....to Dave Greenfield the most underrated band member of them all...to WHO????.Hugh?
Hugh Cornwell the guy with the crystal sparkling mind and bright concepts who pioneered this band and also let a lot of fans down!...
P.S. - We know how good you are...now give us one more tour! - Lots of love, JOKAMAJA!
I played my video of this so much the tape eventually fell apart at the seams !
