Whipped Cream sold over 6 million copies in the United States and the album cover alone is considered a classic pop culture icon. It featured model Dolores Erickson wearing chiffon and shaving cream. The picture was taken at a time when Erickson was three months pregnant. The cover was so popular with Alpert fans that, during concerts, when about to play the song "Whipped Cream", Alpert would tell the audience, "Sorry, we can't play the cover for you!"
My folks absolutely loved Herb Alpert. Plus James Last, etc. They had pretty good taste in music I guess. I just heard this song on a CBC French Radio II Espace Musique. And I had to some here and hear it again. Brings back alot of great memories.
Man, oh, MAN! Does this album cover bring back some guilty childhood memories. I would stare and stare and that fabulously, amazingly hot brunette knowing . . . hoping. . . wishing she was butt naked under all that whipped cream! Thanks Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass!!!
@dabthe1st Actually, although "Whipped Cream" was used as the intro to the bachelorette, "Lollipops and Roses" was in fact used as the theme for when the bachelor(ette) learned about the person chosen for the date. "Spanish Flea", a song taken from the TJB's next album Going Places, was used as the theme for the bachelor.

@geoffmount147 One of the top ten album covers of all time. I don't know where you would rank it, but it would definitely be in my top ten. And an awesome album cover after almost 50 years!!!
@casey3234 Yeah, the Stones "Sticky Fingers" comes pretty close, but I still like Herb's album. And the model (Delores Erickson) was three months pregnant when she did this classic album cover. And the tunes were also first rate as well. Just an outstanding album cover, the kind that they just don't any more.
They just don't record music like this anymore. This is when musician really knew how to play instruments. There is nothing like the sound of brass, trumpets, trombone and French horn. I remember "stealing" this album out of my parents record collection and listening to it through head phones. I fell in love with big brass and bands like Herb Alpert. Today's "music" is for the most part pain in my ears. I'm in my 40's but love stuff from when my parents were young.
herb was still using session players at the time of this album...he would hire the tjb in 1966...hal blaine was the drummer on this album...the late nick ceroli took over the drum kit in 1966.
@tpfarfan The model is Delores Erickson, believe it or not she is actually 3 months pregnant in the photos. The "Whipped Cream" is not whipped cream at all but rather Barbasol Shaving Cream, under the hot lights of the photo studio real whipped cream kept melting, so shaving cream instead was used, except for a dollop on her head. Being pregnant her bust was rather enlarged. She was born in 1937 so yes that would put her in her 70's. So 1965-1937= 28, what a hottie she was!
@SecurityPro2704 You know the behind the scenes on how they put the album cover together. And they also shot several other photos of Delores (which they did not use) before going with the now famous album cover . And it's still one of the best album covers of all time (in my opinion). But did you also know that she was also an actress and did some small parts on TV in the late 50's?
I used to put this on the stereo as a kid and dance around. I loved it! Brings back nice memories thanks for posting this. My Dad still has these vinyls unfrotunately we can't find a needle to play them on the floor model stereo! Remember those? Umm lets see I think I'll take the coppertone do for the kitchen. Avocado can hurt your eyes in bright light LOL! BRADY BUNCH!
Which will it be...avocado or coppertone appliances in your new kitchen? And of course, you do want your counter tops & carpets to match the appliances, don't you? That's why Leave it to Beaver & other sitcoms of the 60's were so benign, they were in black & white. It's always cool to see the Better Homes & Gardens & other magazines from the 60's & 70's, just to see the decor. Can anybody say "Brady Bunch?"
Trivia: One of the greatest LP covers! The model was actually 3 months pregnant at the time(see Wikipedia). Notice that she is draped with a white sheet or blanket and the shaving cream(not whipped cream) is placed here & there. I read that the only actual whipped cream was on her right index finger.
This LP cover was parodied by many people, as well variations on it for tribute LPs like Peter Nero's.
Best new tribute band: Black Sombrero Brass from Baltimore/Wash DC area... wow!
I was moving furniture yesterday in order to set up the X-mas tree for my parents and I noticed this album from still in tact and playable after 40 plus years.
I'm amazed at shear quality and quantity of great solid music on one album. Unlike most of the disposable music being created today, this album is timeless!
@stevenjmancini Yes, record albums are incredibly resilient if kept away from heat sources and handled carefully. Yes, this LP puts most other from that era to shame since it's all hits. Every Herb Alpert & the TJB is worth owning, on records, tapes or on CDs.
@ctrealtorlady You're not alone. There's a whole generation of us weirdos. You couldn't beat those console stereos. Like great battleships they were. Ours didn't have an 8-track, just am/fm & phonograph. When we'd get too rowdy & jump too much the records would skip. Those were the days kid ! ! Let's hope they have those stereophonic consoles in Heaven?!
@ctrealtorlady Your comment makes me laugh every time I read it because my parents did the same and I always thought it was so embarrassing (Although I did and do like the song).
@RandyTownsendman Actually, it was at the end of the game. Jim would introduce the bachelor(ette) the bachelor(ette) picked for his/her date. Then they would meet.
The best tune on this fantastic album (yes, even better than "Taste of Honey"). What a great arrangement too. The music of the Brass will live on for generations...Jim, Columbus, OH
Yes, most iconic album cover that I can remember. Oh, the music is pretty damn good too!
