  • how can you not like By Starlight and X.Y.U??? D:

  • @basilicata92 how the fuck can you call 'beautiful' a good track. a fucking embarrassment of a pumpkins song. if you think that is "amazing" get your head out of Billy's ass. SAAM knows what he's talking about

  • @ak47popper how isnt it a good track? how isnt by starlight a good track? oh its 'immature' i guess luna was immature too right. get ur head out of SAAM's ass, popper head

  • @basilicata92 ? no, it's just 1 of about 3 really REALLY poor songs, and good job deleting your comment

  • @ak47popper maybe to the untrained ear

  • @basilicata92 obviously

  • @basilicata92 so tell me, to an audiophile such as yourself, what do you hear in XYU that mere mortals like myself don't?

  • @ak47popper you just dont get it do you?

  • @basilicata92 no, please inform me....PLEASE

  • May have benefited had the Pumpkins not released Pieces Icariot and revamp those into Mellon. Then, the second disc, and the whole album, would be taken to the next level.

  • i think zero was the most perfect song on the first disk

  • Comment removed

  • Flagged for spreading lies, and thumbing it down for not giving it a 10. This is fucked up

  • @ElsolraSaul This is by far the most amusing comment I've read all day. Thanks for making my day better! :)

  • i love both albums in it, i listen to both of them every day and it never gets old

  • The whole freaking album is SOLID!!!

  • man, i don't think that you really understand this album.

  • @UKNOWIT88 Ok, it's all opinion anyway, so whatever.

  • what you call "filler" is what makes this album so unique. songs like We Only Come Out At Night, Cupid De Locke, Lily, and Galapagos are some of my favorite songs.

  • @misterdirtyharry I never called Cupid de Locke or Galapagos filler. In fact I remember saying that the first CD is killer, it only gets bad at the second half of the second disc.

  • I agree with you! I think they should of cut alot of stuff out, this is how i think the album should have been to make it a classic ( thats not saying i dont like the album because i do) Here is how i think it should have been (one disc)

    1)Tonight, Tonight 2)Muzzle 3)Jellybelly 4) Zero 5) Bullet With Butterfly wings

6)1979 7) Bodies 8) Where Boys Fear To Tread 9)In The Arms Of Sleep

    10) Thirty Three 11) Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

  • @Radiohead17321 If you add In The Eyes of Ruby that would be the best album ever made.

  • Respond to this video... Oh, don't forget Stumbeline dude. Now it is perfect.

  • honestly dude, if this album had been cut into 1 album with all the best songs...it would've been stronger than Siamese Dreams...but as a double disc...it's kind of weak at quite a few points.

  • @dalecampbl6

I agree. I think that the Pumpkins should have added 1979 and 33 to disc 1 and used some of the other good songs on disc 2 as B-Sides. Make it a single LP in that way and improve the production = near perfect album.

I'm very experienced with this LP now and here's what I think of it: Love all of disc 1, Love the first 5 songs, stumbeline and Lily on disc 2.

Thru the eyes of Ruby is decent but then the rest of disc 2 I HATE! Especially Tales of a scorched earth. TERRIBLE song!

  • This music isn't meant to be "rigid" It is a trip. It goes from a span of a day. And listen to every 5 tracks as though it were a part of your day. Maybe then you'll hear the maturity it took out of Corgan to orchestrate an album so well. The sections the E.P. should break into are.

    1.Dawn

    2.Teatime

    3.Dusk

    4.Twilight

    5.Midnight

    6.Starlight

This album was one I actually felt. Due to the rigidness in it's life cycle playing front to back. With a narrative based on the labors of growing up. 9/10

  • @k2blue7 you're right....

  • This album needs higher than a 7/10, so I disagree with you there. And I ALSO disagree with there being shit songs. I personally enjoy all of them. But I respect you pointing out that Mellon Collie was the song writing paramount of Billy's career. Not a bad review, I loved the 'worn and sonic depth and plastic' comment. That's how I think about it, too. (:

  • i like this album and would give this a good 8.

but i think that this is nothing compared to Siamese Dream.

as it isn't as dreamy and the lyrics can get pretty bad. it sometimes feels like a stupid person with great music behind him...... oh wait.....

  • so....ok lemme see if i have this straight....you classify x.y.u, by starlight, and farewell and goodnight as "filler" and "immature"? now, i will agree with you that some of the songs could've been left of the album. also, as far as material, he had plenty of material. have you ever heard any of the b-sides or the aeroplane flies high boxset? marquis in spades, set the ray to jerry, ugly, the last song....a couple of those should've been on the album IMO

  • My favorite song on the album is probably Thru the Eyes of Ruby. Amazing song with great levels and style. The vocals are pushed so far back in some of the songs that it's nearly impossible to hear what he's saying. But sometimes it's just the opposite with songs like In the Arms of Sleep, very strange. But this album is nothing compared to Adore.

  • The second half of the second cd is probably the best stuff on the album IMO. Songs like Jellybelly completely ruin the flow of the album. (Especially since the recording is terrible) That song has absolutely no levels and no diversity at all. Same thing with Where Boys Fear to Tread and Tales of a Scorched Earth. Terrible. I think the songs would have benefited from a higher quality recording but we don't see that here so in my personal opinion those songs missed the boat.

  • I just bought this album today and listened to it all for the first time and, dude, I SO agree with you on this review. The first disc is absolutely fantastic! It reminded me both in style and in quality of one of black sabbath's first 6 albums (with a pumpkins and alt rock twist of course :P)

The second disc? It has some FANTASTIC songs on there (1979 especially). However after Stumbeline ends, you may aswell turn the damn thing off. It's cheesey piano ballads from then on.

    Fantastic review.

  • Best album in history. Originally, I hated most of the songs on "Twilight to Starlight" but I grew to love every song by the Pumpkins up until Adore, that's their definite last good album.

  • I love stumbleine

  • didn't have enough material for a second disc? listen to the b-sides off of the singles from mellon collie.

  • you need to expand your vocabulary man!!!

  • how can you bash a side with Bodies, 1979, X.Y.U, WHere boys fear to tread, We only come out at nigh.. yeah okay i cant watch anymore bye

  • @TheThroney You obviously lack ears. I never bashed Where Boys Fear to Tread, 1979, or Bodies. Come back and talk to me once you get off your fanboy high horse. Thanks. :)

  • @SirAllAboutMusic lol you just bashed the side that all of those songs are on calling it boring, crap, immature and w.e else, i just said i couldnt watch anymore, bye.. whats so wrong with that and how does that make it seem like im on a high horse? i thought your review wasnt that good. its not because you disagree with my thought on it but because of the way you chose to call it down that made me not respect your opinion. You seem to be the one on the high horse who's opinion beats all.

  • @TheThroney I said the last half of the second disc. Again, you obviously lack ears. As far as I know, none of the songs I listed above are on the last half of the second disc. In fact, seeing as Where Boys Fear to Tread is the very first song on the second disc, I think it's rather impossible for it to be on the last half. My opinion is not the end all be all of the universe. That never came out of my mouth. Thanks for the thought though! :)

  • @SirAllAboutMusic i was going to go thru the video to make my point but screw that.

i just dont agree with your review and i didnt like it. not because of you or because of you not liking it.. but i do disagree when you say the whole second disc brings the album down. i dont know what else to say, sorry.

go back and listen if you dont believe me. you said the whole second disc, expecially the second half.. thats not Just the last half. who cares anyways. i didnt mean to start a fight, cya

  • @SirAllAboutMusic the last half of disc two is the half I go back to the least, but I still think By Starlight is a wonderful song and not juvenile to say the least. the first seven songs from tonight tonight through to forgive is probably the best set of songs the pumpkins have ever done though. Im telling you if they replaced some of the songs from the second half with some from Aeroplane like Set Ray to Jerry, or condensed it to shorter double or single, it would be the definitive 90s album.

  • hey guys, if you think they were to cut it down, or take most of the first disc and add the best songs from disc two, do you think it would be regarded today as THE album of the 90s instead of Nevermind or Ok Computer, instead of being one of the best?

  • and dont talk about the last 4 because YOU REALLY SHOULDNT CRITICIZE WHAT YOU CANT UNDERSTAND.

  • It's pronounced Jimmy Chamber-lynn lol

and fall asleep to those last few tracks and then tell me you dont get lost and fall in love with them.

  • OK, your rating is too low. As a whole, I give it a 9/10. I think you are wrong about the second disc. The end was kind of about the mood of the album as a whole...just the ending and the calm behind some of the storm. All I ask is that you didn't count Thru the Eyes of Ruby as the last half. number 7/14 on disc 2. Be well, I just think 7/10 is reserved for something like...far less. It's not filler, but then again you were like 5 when this came out. Maybe I have an advantage???

  • @themooddisorders I've lived with this album, it's been a big part of my life. Just because I'm younger than you doesn't mean I'm clueless. This is just my opinion, I'm not presenting it as fact. In my book 7/10 ain't bad. And like I said, the first disc is, again in my opinion, the best Pumpkins recording ever made.

  • @SirAllAboutMusic

    i gotta disagree man , disc 2 has some amazing songs on there , " In The Arms Of Sleep " " Where Boys Fear To Tread " , " Bodies " , " 1979 " , "Stumbleine" , " X.Y.U. " ..

I admit , there is alot of crap on this album , but at the same time , it also has alot of amazing songs.

I think it would of been better just to pick the good tracks and have it be a regular 12 track album.

  • @SirAllAboutMusic second disc to me is better than 1st... Thru the eyes of ruby is fucking epic and awesome its my fave SP song same with XYU and stumbleine

  • @SirAllAboutMusic Crap, all filler....only a couple good tracks? I think you need to review this again

  • Have you ever heard of The Airplane Flies High: B-Side Box Set. Thats what he did with the other songs. He put them on singles like Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Zero, and Tonight Tonight. As for disc 1 and disc 2 it's all great you just suck. I will be the first to say the smashing Pumpkins have made a few bad songs like GLOW, FOL, and a lot of the stuff on Mashed Potato. You should change your name to Sir All About knowing Nothing About Music.

  • @nicholsjoshua15 Exactly, they weren't good enough for an album, so he threw them on a B-Side compilation. Look, I don't like the songs I don't like, I think they're shit, it's okay if you don't agree with me. You haven't said anything that thirty other people in these comments haven't said. Is it really that hard for you to come to terms with a differing opinion? That's really sad.

  • It sounds like your in love with Jimmy Chamberlin...

  • Okay. You obviously know very little of the Pumpkins' discography/history to say something like "Billy wanted to make a double record so badly, but he didn't have enough good material". You may be interested to know that Billy wrote over 50 (yes, OVER FIFTY) songs for MCIS. He had to whittle it down to 28.

Many of the remaining songs were released with the singles, BWBW, 1979, Zero, etc...

Admittedly, Lily isn't my favorite song, but to say that it's "A dumb song" is just asinine.

  • @WhiteSpyder170 I know that he wrote over 50 songs. And he had to throw out most of the garbage. I don't like it, so I must be clueless about the album's history or the circumstances surrounding it? That's quite a logic jump.

  • @SirAllAboutMusic as stated before, he released most of them as b-sides; he didn't throw them out. All logic jumping aside, though, I'm curious to know how you define words like "shit", "stupid", "dumb", "childish", and "ridiculously mature".

Also, it's Jimmy Chamberlin. Not Chamberlain.

For the record, I'm not fanboy nerd-raging on you. Mostly, I respect your reviews. I just think you didn't give disc 2 a fair shake, considering I think it's the best disc they've ever put out.

  • @WhiteSpyder170 And I disagree. I think it's terrible. It does nothing for me whatsoever when I listen to it, and the songs come across to me as "shit", "dumb", "childish", and "ridiculously immature". That's just how I see it.

  • The only Mellon Collie songs I don't particularly like are Love, Take Me Down, Tales Of A Scorched Earth, Beautiful and Lily (My One And Only)

But other songs on Disc 2 are awesome like By Starlight, Farewell And Goodnight, Thru The Eyes Of Ruby, and the first 5 songs

It's far from childish or shit in my opinion

    Overall: 4.5/5

    Disc 1: 4.5

    Disc 2: 4

  • I like everything on the second disc up to xyu. The rest is garbage.

  • butbutbutbut 1979

  • when I first heard Where Boys Fear To Thread I was blown away, I think I'll always prefer disc 2

  • i agree with you that melon collie could have had better, but to say that "billy didn't have enough good material" is insane. the pumpkins are one of the most prolific bands ever. haven't you listened to pistachio medley? 10 second clips of jams that didn't make the cut. I think that most of the b-side material from the melon collie singles is better than a lot of the songs on the album itself, but to say he was somehow lacking creativity is absurd.

  • agree with 2nd disc but wat do you think about bodies? that track is awesome

  • I agree with your opinion of the second disc. It's a huge let down after the first disc. It holds up for about 5 or 6 songs, but than it's just boring.

But, I fucking love We Only Come Out At Night.

    No idea why.

I like your reviews, keep doing them.

  • o again!

"thru the eyes of ruby is alright"

best song the original lineup ever did. the rumble of the distortion and the glassy verses exploding and imploding into each other, and the beautiful outro... epic beyond words can describe. vocals are top notch too. i could write a fucking essay describing that single incredible song.

    statement.

    fact.

    in my humble opinion :))))

  • hey i commented on this video too! i love this album, all 28 songs and all 28 bsides on TAFH are 10/10....the mood and artwork is incredible and goes along with the incredible music... and how can you say twilight to starlight is crap? By Starlight is amaziiiiiing. try listening to it while driving on a rainy night, its an ethereal experience :)

i tink its better than siamese dream :O (blasphemy!)

  • Also, who can't relate emotionally to the hopelessness of the love expressed in Lily? The backend of the 2nd disc (and to some extent the whole of Mellon Collie) satirizes the desperation of those still finding themselves in the world by resolving their desperation thru fairytale songs. Furthermore, these songs such as Lily, Starlight, though mocking in their unattainable fiction also create a sense of duality by offering the listener genuine comfort and hope, as any fairytale would, ironically.

  • @dylan9236 So your saying there's some sort of deep symbology to the things I find fault with? Sorry, but I just don't buy that.

  • @SirAllAboutMusic I guess what I'm tryin to say is that the band and especially Billy would have thought about this a lot deeper than just the way it sounds on the surface. AND (I may be out of line here considering your video is a critical review based on your opinion) often, faults are only faults within a certain perspective. For example, Billy's singing is not technically perfect, but it is very unique and interesting, therefore would one really say that his voice's faults are a bad thing?

  • @SirAllAboutMusic btw, i know you never said you had a problem with Billy's voice, I was just using that as an example :)

Also, I'm definitely not saying that the interpretation I've given is THE interpretation or anything like that ha ha, I'm just pointing out that there are many different levels to appreciate this album on :)

  • @dylan9236 its ok bro i understand what you are saying, SAAM doesn't because he is a member of the modern day society that don't buy what we consider symbolism, and they consider it garbage.

  • @TheWhiteNoiseNation This makes no sense at all.

  • You make some good points but I think overal you are looking at this too superficially. The transition from youth to adulthood is a major theme on the album. You said the flow on the second disk is terrible? That assumes they intended for it to flow well. The transition from youth to adulthood however is filled with jarring experiences and nostalgia, it is a period when absolute flow is almost impossible and imperfection is certain. (Same comment applies to what you said about production)

  • You're a madman. 'We Only Come Out at Night' is great! :p

'Bodies' is the best track on disc two.

My favourite track just may be 'Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans' as well. Though whenever I hear 'Muzzle' or 'Hear is No Why', I'm torn. Damn, 'To Forgive' is fucking amazing, too. Damn.

  • Greatest album released by sp ever! (and yes I am going to commet on all the sp videos that's how I roll)

  • why did u say butch vig is a good producer in this vid but in nevermind review you said he ruined the album

  • How is the second half of the second disk bad? Your giving no insight what so ever. I can tell that you like the fierce "typical alternative" Pumpkins songs. But at least appreciate the albums softer and deeper songs. In the arms of sleep, 33, thru the eyes of ruby, beautiful, Starlight, Stumbline, Farwell and goodnight? Are all shit? Mellon Collie is probably one of my least favorite Pumpkins records but I will say that your review is very poor. Again, no insight other than Wikipedia stuff

  • I gotta disagree with you I think disc 2 is amazing where boys fear to thread is really good and how can you not like X.Y.U. the guitar breakdown towards the end of it is mindblowing I admit lilly and we only come out at night both suck though, beautiful and thru the eyes of ruby are both awesome too and farewell and goodnight is like the perfect closing song for the album its like marking the end of an era for the pumpkins

  • the second half of the second disk is timeless. i love the first disk, but i think what you percieve as immaturity is billy at his most mature becuase the songs are about love, hope and innosence and not pissing on his listiners with self-wallowing songs like bullet and jellybelly lyrically. look deeper into those softer songs and you'll find a man who has come to terms with who he is and is free to write about love, hope and sweeter things.

  • i love the second half of the second disk,,,beautiful, lily, by starlight and stumbleine are timeless

  • my favorite album from the smashing pumpkins, even though i did have a tough choice between this, siamese dream, and gish. great review.

  • the second half of the second disc has some of the most amazing pumpkins songs. if you consider the concept of the album and the entire artistic vision behind it, you can easily justify the final songs and why they are just as important as any other song on the album. the second disc is just as amazing as the first for what it's meant to do, and i wouldn't remove a single song.

  • You say they didn't have enough material for a double album? They had over 50 songs for it! There is some really good stuff on The Aeroplane Flies High (leftover songs from the Mellon Collie sessions)

  • When you see art, ask yourself what the artist was trying to get across. And then when you know, ask yourself if they did get it across. I feel The Pumpkins got everything across that they intended to get across.

It's sad to see you chalk up the latter half of the 2nd cd as "filler".

From my perspective, moving around, being alienated, abused, and tormented with racism growing up, I can understand all of this album: the need to be heard and get these feelings out. Not to ONLY rock.

  • @acdcledzepp Great song. It's ef one of my favs on the album.

  • Allright, Billy had enough material, he had 52 songs for MCIS originally, whether he made the right cuts is unknown, I agree some of the back catalogue is somewhat lacking, but I find WBFTT,Bodies,33,1979, X.Y.U are good too.

  • The second disk has stumblein and where boys fear to tread. 1979 thirty three. dont forget xyu and thru the eyes of ruby. of course theres the tales of a scorched earth which kind of sucks

  • I really do agree with you about disc 2 man, at first i thought i was just being lazy about trying to listen to it, but right after 1979 is just downhill. i just go back disc 1 lol

  • My favorite song on this album had to be "Love" because it was way different than all the other tracks

  • I like both discs a lot. 1979 is THE song from the album, I mean, it's known for that. I also really love Where Boys Fear to Tread, it's such a dark sounding songs. Also..X.Y.U....that songs kicks fuckin' ASS, especially live.

  • my favorite on this album must be "thru the eyes of ruby"

but of course, the first cd is great, but between all the shit at the 2nd cd, there's "thru the eyes of ruby"

not my favorite smashing pumpkins album, bit i'll give it a generous 8/10

  • It's about time that some one agrees with me that Jellybelly is a good song. I've been saying that for years.

  • @wickedratched It is a damn good song.

  • @SirAllAboutMusic it was originally intended to be the lead-in single.

  • i have to disagree 2nd half is just as good 1979 thirty three are you serious.

  • @awhiteman1986 But 1979 and thirty three are on the first half of the second disc, which I said was okay. And I like those songs, they're good songs. Thanks for the comment!

  • Another great SP review

    Just wondering

What do you think of In the Arms of Sleep on disc 2?

Its one of side 2 I really like..

  • @MajorKoenig2 I don't think it's a bad song by any means,I enjoy listening to it every now and then.

  • Every song on this album is great. None are "shit"!

  • This is just my opinion dood. Thanks for the comment!

  • I would definitely have to agree about the production of the album; the drums were kept in the background, which was ironic, but nevertheless this is a great album. My favorites on disk 1(in no particular order) are: Jellybelly, Here is No Why, An Ode To No One, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans and Muzzle. All of which are so uplifting and timeless. The epic flow of the lyrics and vocal melodies are what makes this album really stick out. Easily one of the best concept albums in music history.

  • Yeah Chamberlin being pushed back always annoys me, seeing how he's a great drummer. Thanks for the comment!

  • dunt like 1979

  • Aw, I really like We Only Come Out at Night, it's very soothing to me. hahahahaha

  • I'd have to completely disagree with you when you say there are alot of shit songs....some of the quieter songs really make mellon collie what it is

  • 6? Srsly?

  • Seriously. Did you watch the whole review?

  • Well obviously not, cause I gave it a 7 lol. It's right there in the description box.

  • Someone said the second disc has to grow on you. Maybe Billy was smarter than we thought...

  • If it's grown on anyone, it's not me. The second disc just isn't my kind of thing. Thanks for the comment!!

  • whats up

  • hey sirallaboutmusic im happy to see a pumpkin fan. for 18 yrs i have never been able to know a pumpkin fan and dont know why

  • Never? No Pumpkins fans where you live? WTF?!?!

  • Unfortunately, the second disc is pretty bad about flow and consistency like you said... We Only Come Out At Night might be my least favorite pumpkins song (and yes, I am including zeitgeist) and Beautiful and Lilly are both sub par and seem even worse coming right that one... I really like Starlight, and the closer isnt bad either. But, XYU and Bodies are two of the best heavy songs they ever did IMO. Id give the first disc a 10 and the second about an 8 (Leaning close to a 9 though).

  • I really enjoy watching your reviews... and more often than not, I agree with what you have to say. But here, I have to respectfully disagree. Mellon Collie is my all time favorite album. I agree with you saying that the first disc is far superior to the second... but i think youre way off saying the second is crap. Some of the all time best pumpkins songs are on the second disc. Where Boys Fear To Tread, Bodies, In the Arms of Sleep, 33, 1979, Ruby, and XYU are at least 8-9/10 songs IMO...

  • I don't hate disc 2 completely. Where Boys Fear to Tread, and a couple of other songs, some of which you mentioned are great. But I'm glad we can agree on the awesomeness of the first disc. Thanks for the awesome comment!!! :D

  • 7/10???

    it's a 11/10

  • can you describe what you mean by siamese sounding plastic? just curious...great passionate reviews my man ;)

  • When I say "plastic" I mean that the sound is very controlled, almost rigid. There's no room for error, everything is labored over, and the sound is what it is. There's very little allowance for the listener to go and take the song somewhere else. Almost no room for interpretation in my opinion of course. NOW, it's not that I don't like that, I think its pretty cool. Someplaces it doesn't work, but mostly it does.

  • thanx for the clarification, i would say "vacuum packed" LOL

  • haha I might have to steal that from you and use it sometime lolz

  • nice! be my guest, you'll probably use it Shellac - At Action Park....Happy New Years SIR ;)

  • LOLOL I actually think the 2nd half of the 2nd cd is the strongest part whole album LOL. Clearly we're looking for different things in music LOL, but interesting review none the less. Personally I'd give this a 10/10.

  • Really? haha. Well I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree!! Thanks for the comment!!

  • I feel Disk 2 isnt as Mature or Even AMAZING But as a Kid When I first Got it in 95 I really did love it & then I grew to side 1 It was really a Maturing Process for me to Move from side 2 To 1 all the time.

  • I was never a huge Pumpkins fan but I can't wait til you get to Zeitgeist. A terrible album I thought.

  • Same here. Hated that rag.

  • Hey SirAllAboutMusic. I stumbled on you while listening to the Smashing Pumpkins. I've watched all of your reviews on the Pumpkins and I think they are great. I pretty much agree with everything you say on every video with the exception of Beautiful being a bad song which you say on this video. But other than that, I agree completely. Love your reviews man. Pumpkins forever <3

  • Glad you liked the vid! Thanks for the comment!

  • Sweet enjoyable review, if you get a great camera and turn the music down a little (or maybe cut it out alltogether) you could get as many views as any other reviewer.

  • You don't like the music? I thought people liked the music! Thanks for the suggestions. Wish I did have a better camera, but unfortunately, I don't... :( Anyway, thanks!!

  • I'm all for the music.

  • Hey SAAM, first response...Jimmy - waaaaaaaaaaaay underated. The reason for his spice is his jazz bg and he's one dynamic amazing fucking drummer alright, perfect for Billy....anyways, enough of that...I give this album an 8/10. You're right about the tone but I think a little harsh with the 'fillers' comment but there are a few on there alright. I saw them tour this as well. Definitely the Pumpkins at their peak live. Good review dude, look forward to the others...

  • I see where you're coming from but I gotta say: if there's one thing I hate to hear in an album, it's filler. Filler drives me nuts, cause most of the time it's so bad, you know the band didn't like it anyways. Filler can and has killed albums for me. Just my attitude towards it. :P

  • Nice job of opening video with Jellybelly, one of their best songs.

I like this album a lot. There is a stretch of like 6 songs on the first disc that are amazing. This album is a lot more creative and diverse than Siamese Dream. Definitely my favorite Pumpkins album.

  • Awesome comment! :D

  • The worst song for me on the album is Take Me Down. Of the songs during the Melloncollie era that should have made the album in my opinion are Set The Ray to Jerry (i know, a little before melloncollie), Marquis in Spades, Aeroplane Flies High, Ugly, Medellia of Grey Skies, and Mouths of Babes

  • Really? I like Take Me Down. I know James' voice isn't the greatest, but still, the song's got a ethereal quality to it that I just find calming. Thanks for the comment!

  • Through the Eyes of ruby to me is probably the best song on the album. the first disc is good mainly because it's harder rock. but disc 2 wins it for emotion

  • To each his own. disc 2 just doesn't hold anything for me. But I could very well be wrong. Thanks for the comment!

  • really i never made it past 1979 on disc two just seems to run on like there was no effort put into it at all. The only 2 disc album that i ever could get into the hole way threw was pink floyds the wall and smashing pumpkins are no pinkfloyd

  • I will actually be doing a review of The Wall sometime in the near future.

  • cant wait dude love pinkfloyd i think the wall would be a good review

  • god..It would be so awesome if you could review Endless,Nameless..!..

from Nevermind..it's like a big finger to the whole album..

  • Should I put it on the list?

  • well..if you want..

it would be cool to see it...

  • Sounds like the goods to me!

  • AWESOME AS ALWAYS !!!

I'm with you man, first CD is fantastic !

but second one is ehhh ... :P

  • lol the Pisces Iscariot review is only going to be about how epic Starla is.

  • DOOD I LOVE YOU!! YOU READ MY MIND!! Not even joking on this one!! :D

  • LOL I knew it, Starla is up in the top 5 for me. I love stuff like Blue, Hello Kitty Kat and Whir, but Starla is like the Sister Ray of the album, it just dominates everything.

  • I really like Obscured too. Thats good shit.

  • I think it deserves more than a 7, for me it would be a 8.5. There is filler, but is really depends on the person, I know people who think Mellon Collie is flawless. You think Thru The Eyes Of Ruby is shit? That's the best song on the album!

  • Thru Eyes of Ruby is one of those filler songs. A lot of the harder songs on Twilight to Starlight sound the same to me, and Ruby is no exception.

  • Seriously? I have to disagree with you on this. Ruby is the track that sticks out for me the most, it's not filler at all, It's like Mayonaise put in a spacey atmosphere. Give it some time man.

  • lol I have given it time, I've had this album for about five years now. It's not bad (especially compared to the other trash on disc 2) it's just not the best. It's cool that you disagree though, everyone's got different ideas. :)

  • Tales Of A Scorched Earth is utter garbage, how Billy ever thought that was a good song, is beyond me.

  • The worst songs for me are those last songs, like I said. Just so immature. The worst song on the first disc I'd have to say is Love. Should prolly put that as an annotation.

  • hmmm, So thats why its not usually put as one of the greatest albums of the 90s.

  • You are so awesome my man!

I so want to hang out with you. Awesome review. I'm going to get some stuff up tomorrow, I hope. If not, then definitely on Friday. I generally get videos up late in the week anyway.

  • Awesome dood! Can't wait to see what you're gonna do!
