This to me doesn't make any sense, world map is always fun to explore and it's the main point people play Final Fantasy Series, Yet now the whole crap has become Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core where you're lock into the story and no free roam.
while it's not of that high level such as world map you can walk around midgar, shinra building(the chapter in which it gets attack even has rooms off to the side that you can go in for extra stuff) ,Sector 5(in fact when you go and seeAerith you have to walk to it rather then go stright there),etc. while its a "tat" linier it's NOWHERE near the point where it ruins the game like it is in 13, you still have some freedom you still have NPC's(ones that change what they say mind you)

@neil54life I agree with U. After FFX, all subsequence game became GAY. The bright open world, colorful characters, alien space craft, lights orbs, mundane languages, ie...l'Cie, Fal'Cie, C'ieth" WTF?...If u notice FF13 has the same inhabitance as FFX. So it doesn't feel like another universe as all previous FF title take place in, it feels like an expanded one. Also FFX-2--Gay GAY GAY 3 girls---battle system= Dress Sphere...so many fruity colors and design in these recent games.
@yoyoyo88665 It's not that it was so fast-paced or that it relied on constantly shifting paradigms, but the fact that it was all too easy to enter unwinnable battles simply because you didn't have the right paradigms in the quick list. Also, in many cases it was impossible to know beforehand which combinations of paradigms should be used to defeat certain enemies. The Eidolons were especially frustrating in this regard.
A very refreshing and interesting system, but broken none the less. (^_^)
Truly enjoyed this game and I think it's one of the best games of the year along with Heavy Rain, Nier and Mass Effect 2. The story, combat and characters really clicked with me, so much so I got a platinum trophy. Could've used a blitzball/gold saucer minigame but overall loved the whole adventure. =)

In my opinion the only ff that offered something different in battles was only ff 12..ff 13 the way i see it is still turn based with characters moving around the arena giving the illusion it's real time..i don't know..like i said it's only my opinion..but i expected better..

Squaresoft doesnt exist anymore, they are the now horrible company called Square Enix, from games like Last Remnant, FF14 Online etc. Squaresoft was about Chrono Trigger, FF6, FFX etc

What you're saying is that there shouldn't be any eidolons or have them all access all eidolons, correct? If that were to happen, this game would have no originality.
@OnTheToiletBeyotch kinda rude, but i don't think he wanted there to be no eidolons. I agree with him that having to switch ur main char everytime you want to use another eidolon is kinda weird. But like i stated in another comment i respect its seperation from other rpgs in that sense.

Once you get to the open mission area about 20 hours in, this game becomes a huge grindfest. Honestly, i think the battles are the game's weak point. Fights drag on for too long and you cant even move your own character so you arent standing in the cleave zone. The game is good, but its just painful to play once you get to the missions.
@Allthatisrock you could never move your eown characters but you can change one character to a sentinel to which the ai will move in front and the other 2 will move to the back freeing youre self up from direct attacks but AOE attacks will hit you unless the sentinel moves into the middle of the enemy pack which they do later on in the game

I got to play it for like 2 hours and then my brother said I couldn't play anymore... I thought only an hour has passed and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. The graphics are amazing and the plot is awesome, not to mention the gameplay which is a 12 out of 10. That's how good the game is. :)

im getting a PS3 and final fantasy 13 on April 9 and this is the order i was thinking on gettin some games 1st final fantasy 13 (of course) 2nd Call of duty so i can play online with friends 3rd Tekken 6 so i can play that and regain my rightful title for best gamer of my house 4th God of War cuz i never play it before and i really want to try it out
I love this game so far! I think the battle system is pretty good. It's not too hard to get the hang of either. For some reason I couldn't grasp the idea of FF12's battle system and didn't like the game...
My favorite FFs are 6, 8, 9, 10, and even 10-2. I also think this one will quickly come to the top of my list also.
this could easily be named railroad fantasy 13, everything is so linear, no minigames, no secret eidolons, (most are stupid) and the battle system is not that great 12 exceeds over this one
While I thought FF12 had a crap story, I found the battle system extremely well done. The characters where also very interesting in my opinion. Now I'm not a huge FF fan but the ones I have played I have enjoyed very much with my personal favorite being FF7. The thing I loved about FF12's battle system was much control you have over every character. You could build each character however you wanted to. But it looks like FF13 takes all that out and opting for a more streamlined approach.
A lot of people say that, but I thought the story was quite good. I think the biggest problem with the story is that it was poorly segued with the gameplay, but whatever.
I've played final fantasy 6,7,8,9,10, and 12. I havent finished final fantasy 13 but so far so good, i'm loving it so far. Could be my favorite final fantasy yet!
@R0ckerNinja I have played Final Fantasy since the beginning in the NES days. My favorite Final Fantasies(honestly) are 5, 6, and 7. 8 and 9 were good also. 10 and 12 sucked ASS. I swear, Square really has been struggling since they joined with Enix. 13 is finally a good Square Enix game.

In my opinion the only ff that offered something different in battles was only ff 12..ff 13 the way i see it is still turn based with characters moving around the arena giving the illusion it's real time..i don't know..like i said it's only my opinion..but i expected better..

Squaresoft doesnt exist anymore, they are the now horrible company called Square Enix, from games like Last Remnant, FF14 Online etc. Squaresoft was about Chrono Trigger, FF6, FFX etc

He hasn't bashed a single game I've liked (though, I haven't seen any of his recent reviews since kane and lynch 2) but I can still say his reviews are boring incoherent and just all around. And besides, Zero Punctuation isn't actually about reviewing a game. It's about ranting and overstating a game's every slight flaw (or major flaw) for comedic effect.

@legendaryawesomedude You are very smart and will get very far in life..NOT. The reason is because you can switch whom ever you play. One person has their specific eidolon, dumbass. What you're saying is that there shouldn't be any eidolons or have them all access all eidolons, correct? If that were to happen, this game would have no originality.

@OnTheToiletBeyotch kinda rude, but i don't think he wanted there to be no eidolons. I agree with him that having to switch ur main char everytime you want to use another eidolon is kinda weird. But like i stated in another comment i respect its seperation from other rpgs in that sense.

Once you get to the open mission area about 20 hours in, this game becomes a huge grindfest. Honestly, i think the battles are the game's weak point. Fights drag on for too long and you cant even move your own character so you arent standing in the cleave zone. The game is good, but its just painful to play once you get to the missions.

@Allthatisrock you could never move your eown characters but you can change one character to a sentinel to which the ai will move in front and the other 2 will move to the back freeing youre self up from direct attacks but AOE attacks will hit you unless the sentinel moves into the middle of the enemy pack which they do later on in the game

I got to play it for like 2 hours and then my brother said I couldn't play anymore... I thought only an hour has passed and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. The graphics are amazing and the plot is awesome, not to mention the gameplay which is a 12 out of 10. That's how good the game is. :)

im getting a PS3 and final fantasy 13 on April 9 and this is the order i was thinking on gettin some games 1st final fantasy 13 (of course) 2nd Call of duty so i can play online with friends 3rd Tekken 6 so i can play that and regain my rightful title for best gamer of my house 4th God of War cuz i never play it before and i really want to try it out

I love this game so far! I think the battle system is pretty good. It's not too hard to get the hang of either. For some reason I couldn't grasp the idea of FF12's battle system and didn't like the game...
My favorite FFs are 6, 8, 9, 10, and even 10-2. I also think this one will quickly come to the top of my list also.

While I thought FF12 had a crap story, I found the battle system extremely well done. The characters where also very interesting in my opinion. Now I'm not a huge FF fan but the ones I have played I have enjoyed very much with my personal favorite being FF7. The thing I loved about FF12's battle system was much control you have over every character. You could build each character however you wanted to. But it looks like FF13 takes all that out and opting for a more streamlined approach.

@R0ckerNinja I have played Final Fantasy since the beginning in the NES days. My favorite Final Fantasies(honestly) are 5, 6, and 7. 8 and 9 were good also. 10 and 12 sucked ASS. I swear, Square really has been struggling since they joined with Enix. 13 is finally a good Square Enix game.

True 7 did have some good points including the being the first video game to make me cry for a reason other than poor quality but 6 you don't just stop the madman from destroying the world you fail and then go back and stop him from killing everything.
