  • The best voice ever..love you Karen

  • John Denver sang soprano! Meh. Listen to the rhythm. Karen has the beat. Live long, girl.

  • wow two of my all time favs xoxoxoxo

  • What a shame that we lost both of them so young. Karen has always been my favorite female performer. She had such range and musical ability. The complainers simply don't have an appreciation for music as it was meant to be enjoyed. Not the crap that passes for music today.

  • @mgenette Both Denver and Karen were well matched--unique, fluent tonality and a beautiful upper register. Both troubled.

  • Two beautiful and talented people...so sorely missed.

  • Catcher in the Rye!

  • @72HoldenSmokin Huh? Please explain...I love Catcher but I guess I'm too dense.

  • I wish to have planted that kiss in Karen's lovely cheeks<John,so envy you and missed too.

  • I Miss both of these Guys never will u get talent like this again!

  • I learned this song "Coming through the Rye" when I was in Grade 5.

Love the duet between Karen and John!

  • heaven must indeed be a lovely place...

for these singers are already there singing...

  • Where are these talented performers today? Branson, Mo?

  • 2 of my favorite singers

  • wow this brings back memories

  • Peter Larson the famous FAR SIDE cartoonist drew a cartoon showing literaly a body ,meeting a body coming through the rye . Google it to see it .

  • karen (my favorite) and john (one of my favorites). they would have made a cute couple :-)

  • It is wonderful how happy she looks. Both of them actually,

God bless Karen and John !

  • Here's my thing .... look how SMALL her waist was...this is before her real troubles. She was always a small girl. I wish she didn't think she was. She was also an excellent drummer. I am in a family of drummers. I would never change or divert them away from that.

  • I like how they wove the songs together to form something totally unique. This is sampling through pure vocal talent rather through tape editing. I can't imagine any contemporary duo pulling off this kind of performance. Wow...this was wonderful.

  • AWESOME ... Karen and John are surely singing beautiful songs up above, the Angels are very lucky indeed... *sighs* :0)X

  • Wow two legends taken way too soon. The music world is poorer without them.

  • why cant modern singers be this good?

  • This is the song Holden Caufield was talking about

  • @royals1985brett

you're right, he just gets the words wrong. poor holden...

  • @onemorebrando

dont have pity for holden; holden is the lucky one being born not a phony ;)

my favorite book of all time...i think even caufield could appreciate these two as being genuines in the public limelight

  • Poor girl. Shes so thin. Makes me very sad to see her when she was such a beautiful lady with such God given gifts. RIP Karen x

  • she did sooo many tv specials. she was a big thing in the 70's.

  • I am 37 a fan of both of these. My dad loves JD and I was lucky to get to see him in concert. Karen unfortunately died before I was able to appreciate her but didn't stop me listening to my parents Carpenters lp's then going out and buying all the cds I could later. I love both of these for different reasons. Happy memories for me. Had some fun as a kid JD with "Grandma's feather bed" playing in the car on the way to our holidays..RIP the both of you.

  • 2 beloved voices from my teenaged years. They never get old, but then, that is the sad part. I agree the song choices were strange, but with those voices, who cares what they sing?

  • LOVE IT :)

  • Sad to know what happened to her now, and see her on here...and realize...wow...I didn't see it coming...but if I had opened my eyes.

  • Hermosas voces, hermosas personas, hermosos recuerdos. Escuchándolos brotan con nuestras lágrimas lo mejor de nuestros recuerdos. Ha sido un regalo el haberlos tenido juntos en nuestro tiempo. Gracias a ambos.

  • I loved them both, but the good vibrations thing is a little freaky. Strange song choice.

  • Totally amazing , best duo ever

  • it was sweet of him to give her a hug as well

  • @ambersalcove I would have been HAPPY to give her a hug!!! MANY, MANY HUGS, if I could!!!!!

  • that was so sweet when john Denver kissed Karen Carpenter

  • wow what a great duo John Denver and Karen Carpenter are the two best singers in the world I love them both

  • Wonderful duet. Karen looked lovely. Both gone way too soon!

  • Karen is thinking: "GOD....His breath smells like Grape Nuts!

  • @atomic3939 lol

  • 2 great talents who left us way too soon....

  • Hermosas voces las de los dos, se les extraña mucho pero dejaron tanta buena musica para poder seguir disfrutandola.

  • they looked great together so sad they are no longer with us

  • fuck, they were great together! Both had great voices, didn't have to fake it: John & Karen, fuck they should have run away together! Then, maybe, neither would've killed themselves in order to escape their horrible, predatory, depressing, thieving, families/management: Karen by starvation, Denver by crashing his super-cool experimental plane into the ocean

  • Just imagine how beautiful Heaven sounds with those two singing away - so lovely! I really miss them, their voices are just as angelic here on Earth as they are in Heaven.

  • RIP Both Of You <3 <3

  • two of my fav singers together beautiful :)

  • John and Karen are looking at each other with such tenderness and warmth. Karen always looked so happy when she was singing these sort of medleys.

  • i so happy , what i can listen this music now!!!!!!!!!!! these great singers, so nice sounds!!!!!!!!!

  • I love her, she was beautiful, with the greatest voice ever..

    It's a f**king tragedy.....

  • Sad to say that such a charming performance by two such superb people couldn't possibly be broadcast today . . . angels are unpopular today. What have we come to?

  • John Denver was one of the greatest singers and songwriters..and Karen Carpenter was a once in a lifetime singer with a voice of an angel........

  • I always wondered how it would be like if two of my all time favorite singers did a duet together. I always loved Karen Carpenter's voice and enjoyed John Denver's singing as well. So sad they're not with us anymore, but we can still enjoy the music. Thank you for posting this video.

  • I like Karen's smile :) it very cute.

  • Two angels singing together.

  • Wow, two of my faves together!

  • LOL at the kiss at 0:33. John is such a flirt who loves teh girls. (Still have memories of him squeeing at a scantily clad Tina Turner when she guested on his show.) ;-)

  • Karen has the cutest smile at the very end of the video after John Denver hugs her.

  • @Karenfan09 I'd smile like that if a young gorgeous John Denver hugged me too.;-)

  • Vice versa, blackwhimsy....I would be in on cloud nine standing beside Karen while holding her hand.

  • Just Great--thanks for posting :-)

  • sencillamente maravilloso

  • A priceless duet by two of the greatest. It just doesn't get any better than that.

  • priceless!

  • WOW!! What an awesome video of two of my favorite artists singing TOGETHER!!!

    Thanks!! 5 Stars!!!!!

    A+A+A+A+A+

  • Real singers

  • Wow I love them both, didn't know they did a duet together... lovely :)

  • They would've made a great married couple. I am sure they are up in heaven singing to the lord and leading the choir.

  • I agree wow such a great memory and wonderfull singers they are so legendary singers that they will not be forgotten :)

  • check out

Barbara Streisand & Barry Gibb "What Kind Of Fool"

    Barbara and Neil Diamond

    Dionne and Burt

I think these two are great also.

  • I was thinking who the greatest duet would be .... and I thought John Denver and Karen Carpenter ....and what do you know.... here it is....amazing!

  • Yeah, they sounded good together. So sad they are gone!

  • What an amazing mix of pure vocal talent. Both gone too soon!

  • @mtsthelensgirl John forgot to put fuel in his airplane, unfortuneately.

  • @larryboyofok

He had fuel in the other tank but the switch was hard to reach and he probably inadvertantly put the plane into a dive while reaching far behind him to switch tanks. He was too low to recover in time. I spent some time at the crash site just a few weeks ago. Very sad!

  • @mtsthelensgirl definately. without a doubt. I love both of these people. They remind me of my childhood. KC the voice of an angel. JD I just love his country sound. Both very, very talented and gone too soon for sure. RIP I am sure they are in a better place than the rest of us still here!

  • @mtsthelensgirl Amen to that...

  • I miss them both.

    Thx.

  • wow....never saw this!!

  • They were very talented artist, and I wished they could have made a duet album together - like Kenny and Dolly! There is great chemistry there. They would have sold millions! It is ironic because "Close To You" by Karen is one of the sweetest songs ever performed - every man would like to hear that type of affection! Then "Annie's Song" by John is seemingly the song of romance that women yearn to hear! Two extremely talented artist who are missed. R.I.P.

  • well put... sad

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my goodness - its absolutely marvellous!!! Gorgeous, what a pair =)

  • I always loved Karen. She and John were two wonderful performers together and apart. So tragic they are no longer with us.

  • brilliant stuff!

every time i listen to JD's voice, it amazes me.

  • Thanks for posting. Nice seeing KC and John performing together. It looks like they were having fun. Enjoy all their performances. Such talent is so rare it seems.

  • two of my VERY FAV singers EVER, so sad that they are BOTH "gone" from us... to think HOW MUCH MORE wonderful music and accomplishments they would have done in addition to their "many"... really is sad, I STILL cry when I hear either of them sing, they had a HUGE impact on me musically from an early age, I am a 70's girl born in 1965, so these are My singers, My songs... Great era for music, song... RIP Karen and John, you are both missed...

  • You are right on!

  • thank you Mr...

  • So sad. Both r dead. : (

  • wow!!!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I never knew they had a duet - two great singers - and legends - on the same stage! Such chemistry! I bet if they pulled together for a duet albums, they would have sold even more!

  • I NEVER knew it before either and I was and am a HUGE LONGTIME fan of BOTH from day #1 lol... another "gift" they gave their fans...

  • Great vocals... but unexplainably depressing.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful song. What a pitty that no more songs of these wonderful singers will be published.

  • Karen Carpenter, John Denver, The Beach Boys, it simply doesn't get any better than that.

  • Why can't people sing like this today. Today's music sucks - way over produced.

  • Wow, they were both so good, I cried when each of them died.

  • Why do we always lose the ones who show us how wonderful and beautiful this life really is?

  • Carpenters performed this live in concert. It was when they revamped their stage show to rely less on the music and more on theatrical presentation. But guess what..relying less on the music was impossible...they were too damned awesome.

  • wow i never knew that they had a duet!

  • These are my two all-time favorite singers!!!!

  • Marvelous! Two of the most unbelievable voices together - two great artists and human beings - sadly missed...Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this!

  • The angels and Jesus himself up in heaven are enjoying what we so richly had on earth for only a short time.

RIP Karen and John, your music will last for eternity

  • Thanks for posting. Love this duet. Wish they had made more music together. Two very nice people.

  • I sure miss them

    God Bless them

  • I am sure Karen and John are serenading Jesus as we speak... God Bless them both - what a fantastic gift to us for a few years. Love the 70s stuff....thanks for posting this stuff.

  • I'm about the same age as Karen. I've followed her and her Brother around Cal. I'm so glad there are fans like us that remember Richard and Karen or Karen and Richard. Peace.

I will post an in memory poster soon.

  • I sure do miss them both!!! Thank God they were a gift to the world..Love their Music!!!!

  • What a gem, and what a cute couple they would have made!

  • I can imagine Karen and John singing in Heaven together. The 70's were wonderful! God bless them and their families!

  • Impresionante, qué voces, Dios mío

  • 2 of my most favorite singers together! WOOT WOOT! Thank you so much for posting!!

  • I almost forgo about this!:(

    RIP Karen&John

  • This makes me so homesick and nostalgic for that era. It did seem like a simpler time, huh?

  • A whole lot simpler. The world has changed a lot. Things are going way too fast and everyone has less and less patience and time. At least we can remember the time when life was not complicated.

  • This was from the Carpenters first television program in 1976 on ABC TV. This is a real treat to be sure ! Thanks for posting this, it's one of my favorite Karen Carpenter moments.

  • Yep.Lucy has it in one. Jerry Weintraub (John's manager) was producer,so it made sense for him to put his top act in the Carpenters' show.

Remember it like it was yesterday. Even have a entry in my 1976 diary about it,when I was 9. Good times.

  • I remember being in front of the television set with my cassette recorder trying to at least capture the sound from the TV show. I listened to it for months afterwards and then the tape finally wore out. I still think this show and their final 'Music Music Music' were the best of the Carpenters TV productions. Damn I miss Karen.....

  • @lucycow LOL! I did the same thing!!!

    :-))

  • i loved this song, i've never heard it. Excellent

  • Never knew this video existed. What program was it from? Thanks for posting. RIP Karen & John.

  • Miss them both. :( Beautiful song.

  • Two of the most beautiful voices in the world together RIP Karen and John

  • Just Great :-)

  • A really great video...

I can feel that they both enjoyed it!..

    thank's so much for posting.

  • Love this duet. Looks like they were really enjoying the moment. Great mix of the songs.

    Thanks for posting

  • This is sweet~

    Thanks!!

  • Retrospectively, what an interesting combination of songs this turned out to be. I wonder if Richard was responsible for the arrangement. I would swear that is RC singing the bass line on Good Vibrations at 1:17 and 1:24. Anyone to confirm?

  • @stocktrader1021 You're right: part of it is sung live, main leads live singing, I would think.

  • I love this medley, Karen and John always seemed like they were good friends
