For all the people that are not fluid in Scotisch-English but want to know what Luke Kelly is singing about (and this took me a while to find) google: Dundee weaver translation (and click the site of Dick Gaughan).
Hope you will enjoy that little tibit of information.
Its shite bein english sometimes. Celtic music is very uplifting and stirring, and Luke Kelly was a fuckin genious. Bet you guys can enjoy his songs on so many more levels.
I am actually reading this novel with some Scottish dialect thrown in. If not for listening to all these vids Id be completely lost lol, but I can actually make most of it out thanks to these :-)
The song is intense, a story of teen pregnancy in 19th century mill town scotland. She's going to lose her job or get rid of the baby. The fact is this is a woman's song, but that's cool.
Luke does a fabulous job. And the dubliners are awsome musicians, rock solid acoustic folk, authentic...nice!
That pub in heaven has Matt McGinn there as well. There may be snow all around yet the grassroots of justice are forever growing.

Funny you should say that. He actually said that he thinks it's terrible.
jkeppel90 3 years ago
When/where did he say that?
lanternchikk 2 years ago
He says it in his intro to the live version of I'm a Rover
"Don't mind my Scottish accent...it's turrrible".
