  • KEEP PRESSING 5 OMGOMGOMGOMG

  • is he really holding the sticks right?????????????

  • @ajcf1995 yup

  • thanks dude it helps me a lot....

    GODBLESS....

  • honostly he is making it more dificult tthan it real it your res it in your fingers while griping it in you thum and for finger make sure that your thum in facing up not sideways see was that soo hard

  • @DanDavis10

... you laughed at by other drummers.

  • @jkbrown34568

Well, no, because the reason people originally played traditional was because snares were carried on a sling causing the drum to be at a slight angle downward of the left hand. "traditional" was invented to compensate for this slant. Nowadays we have harnesses that hold the drum flat which allows for the use of match grip but never will the drum hang on a slant downwards of the right hand.

While you CAN play traditional with your right hand it is incorrect and will probably get

  • cud u still play traditional grip on ur rite....???

  • are there any experts in expert village?

  • wtf, l to explaine

  • Expert Village is so Friggin RETARTED :)

  • Traditional grip doesn't give you as much control and power as matched grip does. Plus, traditional grip and french grip have led to developing arthritis faster. That's why my HS drum line uses matched.

  • @SolidSnake1162 And yet all the actual international championship winning DCI drumlines snares use traditional grip. Go figure.

  • @tekcomputers Yes, well obviously DCI likes to stick to tradition, and use traditional grip. I was just stating my opinion.

  • i hate traditional grip, i cant do it:/, tenors ftw!

  • state the obviose u dick head

  • I think you forgot one more way. If you watch my lesson you will see how the pros do it....

  • i didnt get it

  • This helped so much. I was taught match grip and now I am learning traditional. The thumb thing made my diddles so much stronger. Thanks for the great tutorial.

  • I play the snare drum. But in band marching it sucks... 1 girl 10 years of age 20 pound drum neck burn and heavyness! :(

  • can it be done traditionnel with the rithg hand???

  • @hypperman2 no only with the left hand.

  • most of ur videos are very help ful

  • Another fantastic video from expert village, i must say you guys are doing an amazing job, you're all great instructors with alot of talent and ability, and as a fellow percussionist, i like seeing these types of videos. so keep up the good work.

  • gracefully gracefully gracefully gracefully is that all you can say

  • Can you swap so ur this is on ur right hand, like if you can hold the right hand stick sideways and hold the left one like how a drummer holds one?

  • no...traditional is in the left. end of story. like seriously it is....

  • @iplaydatsnurdrum Unless you're a lefty. Like myself.

  • Jesus christ for all the damn people that replied to my comment... FUCK YOU. I was just asking a damn question. That how we learn right? So fuck off you fucking prick

  • @xXSeanXx32 I've heard of some drummers holding the sticks like that (some find it more comfortable), but traditional is how it's described here. If you're looking to show off technique or audition for a group, go with the standard.

  • nice to see some innovative sticks

  • I dint know music is about looks, I thought it was about.... music,

if it sounds good and your are not hurting your self or others ( this is most important ) anything goes, but to do it so you look cool??.... you are a drummer! it doesnt get any cooler than that!!

  • if your in a marching band looks is just as important as the music. one snare cant do match while the other does traditional. but if you are just playing for gun then it doesn't matter

  • While I agree that music is about music not about looks but without proper technique your quality of sound will suffer. So in this situation looks are important.

  • does it matter if you left handed?

  • Nope. You'd be cleaner though.

  • so, i'd still be holding the sticks as if im right handed? or do i switch it up? o.O

  • Don't you dare switch it up, you'll get laughed at.

  • lmao, alrite, alrite... thanks for the advice man (y) appreciate it

  • LOL

  • Matched grip - ALWAYS - makes more sens. Trad. grip is old school, they used it years ago only for trad. snare drum playing, so WHAT are we talking about here !!!

  • hahaha but looks fuckin badass!!!!

  • i think what he's talking about in general in these videos is marching snare anyway. it's a lot more proper looking

  • actually a lot of people still use traditional

  • What are the benifits of holding a stick in traditional style? I'm not trying to raz it, I'm just curious...

  • well one of the benefits is that you wont have to ask for a knife & fork in a chinese restraunt its alot more comfortable to play a kit with too depending on wether you cross your hands for the hi hat

  • It's weird. I learned to play traditional grip and can't relly play without that grip. I'm not even sure what the other grips are called... call me ignorant, but i just was never introduced to them in my 8+ years of playin my snare.

  • Trad grip helps u play alot faster even on a drum kit.

  • does it?

How does an asymmetrical technique work faster than a symmetrical one??

see....this is what I'm talking about. I don't give a crap about speed...but like, how can you say that?

Whatever you practice is what is going to help you play faster.

  • I can't fucking figure out why people play trad grip. It comes from marching with the drum off to the side. Nobody marches with a drum at their side, yet everyone thinks it's better to play that way anyways. Why use a technique that's more difficult? So many people play trad grip because it looks cool, or it's harder, or whatever...fuck. Play however works for you.

  • well think about it man, if you master something very difficult, then it looks better, sounds better etc. some people yeah just do it for the challenge. it honestly doesn't matter but serious drummers like to learn every aspect of drumming. every technique

  • Wow, how fucking ignorant are you?

Why the hell are you getting in such a bitch fit and ranting over the internet?

It's either because A. They play Jazz. B. They learned it that way. C. It's nice to know how to use that particular sticking. D. BECAUSE YOU CAN, AND NO ONE GIVES A FUCK.

  • OH! AND THE MOST OBVIOUS ONE!

PEOPLE LEARN IT IF THEIR IN A DRUM CORP.

Obviously, if you were to write SUCH AN IGNORANT comment without any knowledge of traditional sticking then obviously you were just ranting for no fucking reason.

  • dude

Take a chill pill. They're obviously pricey where you live. Check out all the comments on this post. I'm not the handicapped one. Obviously I sounded like more of one than I meant to...but check out the whole story.

  • fuck...wrong video.

no wonder everyone hates me, my comment was retarded and seemingly way out of left field. Anyways, I'm not THAT stupid. I know why people play trad grip in many situations, pretty much all you mentioned. I think it sounds great as well, and I can't fuckin do it at all.

check the other video where some IDIOT says traditional grip is WRONG period, and I tear him apart.

3/4 of my fav drummers play traditional.

    bah whatever...fuck it, it's youtube.

  • I disagree. Trad grip maybe alittle harder to get use to, but it looks ALOT better IMO. Defently if you to marching. It simply looks more professional. Any serious drummer should atleast learn how to play trad IMO.. But im going to have to agree with having a snare off to the side or tilted, I dont like it, but thats just me.

  • does it really matter how you hold the sticks? can you just hold it in ut left hand just like your right?

  • Not in the drum corps, I believe.

Learning traditional is a must if you're a professional :p But if it's just a band-group like a rock band or jazz band then not really.

Trad is optional outside of marching.

  • gracefully shove the stik up ur ass, then this is the most important part, twist the stick as fast as u can so it will produce enough heat to let the caca out xD

  • wtf?? lmao

  • just hold the damn stick chop-stick style and get going.

  • too bad he sucks

  • He forgot the part where your thumb is pointing upward and is resting "on" your index

  • the best drumsticks i think are vic firth stf

    they're tom floats

  • Traditional grip = NO THANKS.

  • really?

    i like traditional MUCH better

  • me too

  • i hate matched. it's lame :p

  • what do you mean

  • it looks cooler when you play traditional

  • use vic firth sd1 drumsticks for band or marching band.

  • they treat u lyk fckin retarded donkeys

  • i can't believe all these fckin jerk-offs which show u how 2 hold fckin drum sticks take more then 2 fckin minutes! omg fckin diickwhipes

  • we cant all be pro like you, k?

  • graaccccefullllllyyyy lmao

  • always remember ... graceeeeeeefullyyyy

  • it feels weird when I try to move my left hand it does not feel right

  • Gracccceefully ....
