no matter if these trained professionals seek the adventure of being able to deliver essential trauma care, this is still an important service in london and i praise the hard work not only by the medic one team ,but all paramedics.good job and excellent vids!
All power to the Air Ambulance and all the dedicated pilots, doctors nurses and crewmen and women who take on this kind of essential work. You are all angels.
@chcwtf. Are you saying that Paramedics should be able to carry out the procedures to stabilise a patient that currently only Doctors can perform before transport to a suitable Hospital? Or save the Doctors intervention until Hospital which may be an hour + after sustaining critical injury/injuries and by then the patient under the care of a Paramedic is so far down the dying process that there’s little that can be done by Doctors when they get to a suitable Hospital.
@leegt5 RSI which was performed in this video could easily become a Paramedic skill. After all Paramedics can intubate .CCP's performed around 49 last year, none required any further interventions by the Doctor on scene. Just a case of Doctors dictating pre hospital care practice. If you read the SecAMB CCP it is reported that paramedics under some circumstances have fewer deaths due to trauma than Doctors. Hospital is the place for seriously ill people.
@chcwtf You haven't got a clue about what you are talking. If such is the case.. why is it that helicopter based medicine is practiced all over the world ? Are you talking fancy just because you are a paramedic maybe ?!! EMT cannot lern in a couple of years what a dr has lerned in 10. ( college and rezidency ). And for another perspective .. if you want to hear it from someone in the AE depp. You cannot rush an emergency from the scene to the hospital because you would crowd any working system!
If any Londoner's read this: Take note of the medical students in scrubs you sometimes see collecting money on the tube - those from Barts & The London collect thousands of pounds per year and a proportion of this always goes towards HEMS :)
@Lennart1423 This helicopter was designed with no tail rotor to reduce the amount of noise made which is more suitable for urban condition. I don't fully understand how the rudder is used but it is something to do with main rotor blade. It's clever stuff.
Surely no need for this many people getting involved. In my day you would have just got up and popped along to see your local doctor and got some painkillers. Back at work in the morning
how do they not have a transport to take them to the scene? In the US, the patient is taken directly to the landing zone by an ambulance or someone brings the helicopter crew directly to the scene. No jogging down the road to get the scene.
@SpassMacher2000 London's a densely populated city of 7.5 million people surrounded by suburbs that contribute more population. Encircling this is the M25 motorway. What you would probably call a "Freeway" 117 miles around so people don't drive through but can go around. This one Helicopter covers this entire area.
The "landing zone" is this densely packed area. They pick what they can. Schools, gardens, parks. Even road junctions. And all funded by charity. Not government. Outstanding.
@SpassMacher2000 It's because there is no landing zone, its litrally the closest bit you can possibly land in when you get there, the ambulance crew are paramedics, the helicopter flies with a doctor, which takes chanrge of the scene, and also, the patient is stabalised before anyone moves them anywhere, and by that time, the flying doctors are already there.
As a Londoner it disgusts me that this essential service is a charity. This service should be fully funded by central government, I personally would not mind paying more income tax to fund it, still you can't expect the Labour government or any party to give a damn about such things.
I am astonished as well. Compared to my town Hannover, Germany, I feel London's facilities are poor. Hannover having 520,000 inhabitans, has got helicopter "Christoph 4" (since 1972) as well as 5 NEFs (doctor's cars), three of them running 24/365, the other two daytime only. There is an extra paediatric doctor's car(daytime only). These facilities are financed by health insurances and by the government. Emergencies in downtown usually lead to NEF use, which can go closer, no jogging.
@philcald You are so right- unless a high profile person- incl MP- has to make use of HEMS you will never see it funded by government, no matter what. This is such a valuable service and they should be recognised as such. I suppose it's the same all over the world.... sad. Nurse ICU/ED ...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Boring - properly trained paramedics would do the same job at a tenth of the cost. Rapid transport is the key here.
This is just a promotional video for doctors who want to play in pre-hospital trauma because it is exciting.

They saved my life. I was bleeding to death internally after a car crash. As a nurse I can go on to help save other lives.

@TheNick279 well i have find it out myself XD
there is a fan in below the main rotor between the turbines that sucks in air and blows it out of the holes at the back of the tail.
if you want some pictures of it search it in wikipedia where it is totally explaind;-)

@SpassMacher2000 And do you think finding an urban landing site and planning pickups is easy in advance?
You are making a right fool of yourself with these comments.
