  • well done!

  • this sound makes me want to hide from the world.

  • once i get a sitar i plan on practicing with it till the summer, being that i tend to learn new musical instruments with in days (I learned to play violin in 15 minutes), every morning during the summer i want to play outside on my yard.

  • sitar is tougher to play than a guitar!!

  • @xanthen63 Not really they usually teach their own son but some how nowadays some women can play those instruments just like ravi shankar's daughter :)

  • such a wonderful instrument. I have a new ambition- to learn to play one!

    thank you

  • @ssbeane

That was so insanely stupid and uneducated that I started to laugh at you. I am actually unsure as to how you could think of something that idiotic. I feel bad for you.

  • @ssbeane Then go and listen to some mainstream shit if it makes you happy

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice

  • I think she did a wonderful job explaining its function. I've learned a lot about the Sitar from this short clip. My husband now has a better understanding of the instrument that I've been asking him to learn since he's a musician. I think I've finally convinced him. Thank you.

  • Keine Ahnung von Rythmus.

  • she's a bad soloer lol. Like either what she's playing sounds like playing the wrong notes, or she's just playing the wrong notes. Regardless, it's cool that she can play lol

  • @choobplaya she isn't playing the wrong notes. Correct notes for these two raags.

  • OH YEA BRING OUT THE SHROOMS

  • @DJjamroom42 wow!

  • She's High!!!!

  • This makes me want to.

  • LOL Im loving it!

  • Thats what you call ?Speaking from the heart?

  • @thelilpsyco2 It takes a LOT of listening to Indian music to get used to it.

They have twice the notes that we do, making half of their notes alien to us completely. When I first started, I thought it was horrible, but now I think it's so beautiful! All in time. :]

  • Someone send the computer technician please lol

  • There's obviously years of practice needed to play this way, but I can't help missing the spirit that I find in Shankar's or Prasanna's play for instance. Sometimes their play also sounds monotonous, but still touches the heartstrings. Here, it' just the sitar's strings...

  • How do you call this sound in the background?

  • @kalabim Its the harmony, the sympathetic strings

  • this is like a bad trip

  • ooohhhhhhhhhh

  • youre beginner

  • I gotta question. Why r u only playing that 1 thick string & hitting all the other thin 1s open the whole time? Cant u create other various sound by playing another string? Idk Im just saying 4 an expert that looked a little repetitive & un creative.

  • @UnstoppableChaos This is how the sitar is played. The melody is almost exclusively fretted on one string, while the first two or three strings are left to resonate. Sometimes, however, a sitarist must use the second (lower) string in order to play certain notes, but this occurs very rarely. In fact, the second string will almost always break if the player tries to bend any notes. On most sitars, the upper resonant string are unplayable because they do not extend over the frets.

  • this makes me want to be a snake

  • @SShoesLover xDDD

  • Ahh, this is sitar sound I like most

  • indian culture dates back to 5000+years and music originated as form of singing prayers and chants among people . Since it were prayers they were sung will heart filled with love for god and nature and hence reflects the true deep form of music .

  • if you are an expert (Expert Village) i dont realy know what to, i cant imagine the one who play bad.. ))))))

  • how much money is a decent sitar cost? ive been wanting to get want. whats a good website or store to buy one from? thats it, thanks. also prettycool stuff,

  • this makes me want to smoke a joint

  • @MrPersiangod It's an alap, there's no "rhythm" to speak of.

  • its very important know about the spiritual aspect of indian music to bring the soul in teh music, bcoz 90% of the time musician is improvising on the spot.. so lot depend on the interpretation and mood of individual.

  • I play the bass and often feel I would get the hang of the sitar...Apart fro the notation, are there any similarities?

  • blowjob me :P

  • can i ask who your guruji is?

  • @indiaman78 It's Ustad Aashish Khan. Go to her website and it's got all her info on it.

  • It has no sense.....to play like this you can use any detuned guitar after a mega joint!!

  • nice mushrooms your on woman.....

  • Amelia, I'm sorry to say this (but a constructive criticism is always positive, right?). First of all, you mispronnounced de name; it should sound as if u said "Laleet", not the way you transliterated it.

In terms of music, the meends are really off...your sur is not clear at all; therefore, the rasa of the raga is not present at ny moment.

Sometimes it's hard, but work on the meends (may be less theory and more practice?) and it will come out.

    Keep it up =)

  • this lady is a total freak'n noob to Ravi Shankar

  • Why anyone want play this?

    lol

  • @crave136 its a drug

  • @crave136 why wouldent anyone want to play this?

  • this is so wrong. the meends are terrible

  • gotta be a way to get around these silly ass ads....

ANyway.... Is it just me or .... WHy when I hear the sitar, I wanna smoke a joint???

    mmmmm

  • @RuggedBrotha joint bro =D

  • I bet that bastard smells like a goat.

  • "Good luck wid dat". Time to grow up.

  • Ignorance is not bliss nor are unspiritual and immature ignorant comments . . .

Hindustani classical music is 1000s of years old and follows specific tonal and rhythmic traditions to elevate the soul to God . . .

Sitar in sanskrit means coolness through absolute truth.

Student sitars of unknown quality are approx $600.00+ and Professional level instruments are ~$2000.00 w/o cases.

Thank you for your deeply played soulful expression

    Namaste'

    A Kriyaban Yogi

  • liked because i loled

  • wow i love her explanation, indian music is so spiritual. Sitar how much? :)

  • wanna roll a joint?

  • Wait.. do you only use one string for the melody on a sitar, or is it just for this particular song?

  • @TalonWolf

She's actually playing a Raga, which you can say similar to a "Scale", and the reason she's mostly using that same string is that she's playing a scale, or you can call a "Lead" in Guitar.

A raga is a kind of an arrangement of various notes from a "Scale", that create a Mood or feel. Using different tempos and arrangements of these Ragas, and then transcribing some suitable lyrics over that composition makes a song. That's how most of the songs in India/Pakistan are made.

  • @knonie Aaah, I get you. Makes sense now. I pressume, therefore, that it would be possible to use more than one string for this Raga/scale? Or are the other strings (other than the strings for the drone notes) merely for 'chords'? Sorry if I seem naive, I'm just trying to get my head around the workings and functions of sitars before purchasing one. I play guitar often, and I'm incredibly enthralled by 'exotic' music - Guitar doesn't quite cut it all the time, y'know? =)

  • @TalonWolf

You may say that this string is usually used for playing the main notes, and the rest of the strings are kind of giving the specific feel, rhythm/chord flavor.

So unlike Guitar, on which All frets can be played as lead, Sitar has some different style.

Before buying, you can check some more videos here to see what different strings do. That would help you clear your mind.

On a personal note, I think Sitar would require more serious learning than guitar, especially music theory.

  • @knonie Gotcha. And don't worry, I'm super serious about learning =) Cheers for the info, you helped a lot.

  • I think she is under acid xD look at her face!

  • haha her face shakes when she plays!

  • @aztecsun12

haha. your brain shakes when you try to think!

  • @ethomfactusest you are right it doesnt have the spirit

  • Comment removed

  • @ethomfactusest I dont agree. listen to the music without looking at the video. If you didnt know that the player was not indian, you wouldnt be making this comment. I have played other classical instruments and actually understand what she is playing. Youre wrong. She's good, maybe not maestro material, but good.

  • she's high as a fucking kite haha

  • Wish my sitar sounded that sweet. The sympathetics on this one are perfect.

    Thanks.

  • Although she might not be an excellent sitar vituoso, she plays the instrument quite nice. I learning Sitar myself, and I know that it's a really hard instrument to master. I takes many years of daily practice to get a good sound out of it.

So, indeed. In sted of complaining about her qualities, it best to just pick the Sitar a practice your ass off!

  • check out rob mastrianni

  • Is this chick trippin' on some hippy lettuce?

    I think so.

  • @ewoods13 clearly you are one of the great undiscovered philosophers and social commentators of our age, you cunt.

  • This isn't what l thought it would be. Why are the strings at the bottom (the ones she plucks only very seldom) tuned with the others? Expert? I don't know about that... Just my opinion. Too all over the place.

  • @davidbrucemusicvideo I'm not gunna say she's and expert... certainly practices alot but not quite an expert ... on the other hand, your expectations are a little ... crazy? the strings on the bottom are sympathetics - they are tuned to the raga - their purpose is not to be actively played. They resonate when their equivalent note is play on the main string to give that warm chining effect. In other words they are played\activated by the sound vibrations of a perfectly played note.

  • Great job - I loved the composition

I want to share with you my latest creation
