How do you spell Sellers?.....G-E-N-I-U-S! And probably the biggest heartbreak in entertainment history. This man who barely even tapped his incredible talent didn't even know who he was. His characters took over. In several interviews, he was asked who he was and he stated bluntly that he did not know. So sad. I doubt we will ever see anyone like him again.
Does anybody know what TV show this was taken from? I know a lost episode of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's series "Not Only, But Also" with a guest appearance by Peter Sellers was discovered many years ago and was wondering if the clip was from that show?
@chasspeed This is from the Grenada TV special "The Music Of Lennon & McCartney", broadcast in the UK in December 1965. The Beatles themselves hosted -- also appearing were Cilla Black, Peter and Gordon, Lulu, Henry Mancini, Esther Phillips, Fritz Spiegl, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Alan Haven, Marianne Faithfull, the George Martin Orchestra, Dick Rivers, and Sellers.
Quite apart from the genius of Peter Sellers in this sketch, is the brilliant pastiche of William Walton's music which uses the Beatles' tune. Quality.
Peter Sellers was with The Beatles on several occasions.Partied with them did movies with Ringo Starr and was friends with George Harrison. So fitting for him to do this. Masterful. He worked with Sir George Martin before The Beatles did. I suppose only people of a certain age would know this. Oh well.
The world today thrives on sick humor. How else could anyone possibly DREAM of making PINK PANTHER films without the greatest film comedian GOD ever created?
EMI didn' t really know what to do with the ferociously talented George Martin - so they put him in charge of Parlophone: an ailing novelty label covering mainly Scottish interest and British comedy talent.
Comedy records were undergoing a minor revival with the likes of Alan Sherman - so Peter Sellers and George Martin revived the English comedy record as a form.
Meanwhile George Martin had signed the Beatles to his new label - all the major labels had turned them down .....
Just a bit of instruction for the young people there. So spoilt by laughter. Try and get a recording of him doing this in the studio. He was a genius IMHO.
Peter Sellers is one of the funniest men that ever lived. What an honour it must have been to parodied by man of his genius. This sketch is a timeless classic.
Consider yourself part of an elite club and fuck all what the new brainwashed generation finds appealing. Works for me, I seek other elite members and laugh at the Sheep.
I think this is an example of humor and timing. Most of England at the time was familiar with Olivier's performance as Richard and Sellers was nailing that. As time goes on the context is lost. Monty Python episodes are entering that category and someday the Simpsons will as well.
Thank you for that insight into Sellers' performance ... especially regarding Olivier's portrayal of Richard ... throws an envelope of context around the clip.
Great comedian!

Everyone saying this is genius, but its not even a little funny. I will never understand the appeal of Peter Sellers or Jonathan Winters.
