  • @Whatupwidat TOTALLY! :)

  • Morning Sargent.

  • This is a fantastic feel good song.

  • Brilliant, P.I Staker :D Isn't it great how a good film can get a good song recognised again? :)

  • @MissPhyscosocial It's even better when a song I've been listening to for nigh-on 20 years appears on a good film :D

  • Jam :)

  • Who cares where people heard this song. Also nobody cares who old you are either. Can't people just enjoy the song and not make any stupid comments.

  • @gqwincy90 Like the one you're making?

  • Angel : Comment vous appelez vous ?

    M. Staker : Bernard Ingals Doneur

Angel : B I donneur ah vraiment hillarent

  • im glad that hot fuzz gave this band the reboot they diserve

  • One of the most underrated bands of all time

  • Comment removed

  • WTF IS HOT FUZZ?

  • @ImDavidBizar a mad movie

  • hot fuzz are the village green

  • the kinks the best band to come out of england....ever....

  • @MrDegodan don't be stupid. The Beatles were the best band to come out of England. Followed closely by Black Sabbath

  • @NevermindTheApples Black Sabbath? really, don't you mean the Rolling Stones?

  • @TechiAce Don't be silly. But it is harsh putting Sabbath so high up when other great bands like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd also should be high

  • best song ever

  • @05C4RK1NR055 morning Angle.

  • none of you get this song...

  • "That Sergeant Angel's coming into your shop. Get a look at his arse. "

  • @05C4RK1NR055 Morning Angle.

  • i herd the song from hot fuzz and now i love it

  • This was on Hot Fuzz? Blimey, I must've missed that.

  • Im gonna remember this song in my head to help me get past ranger school its so uplifting.

  • I was say morning after the first line

  • Awsome band, Awsome movie! :D

  • Mr Staker: Well, it's around 2 foot tall; long slender neck, orange bill

    Angel: Anything else?

Mr Staker: Well, it's a swan..

  • @mankycaaant OMG I LOVE HOT FUZZ!!!

  • i just really like the kinks ok

  • uuh-uuuuuuuhhhh <3

  • Much more talented than the Beatles.

  • @furiousfingers27 ooh gosh that's a hard one

I like both bands but they're sooooo different it's a hard comparison

  • so, soo, sooo cool (man) I'm showing my age, but that song isn.t!

  • always reminds me of hot fuzz (:

  • .....I wish I was English... Canadian isn't quite close enough.

  • @zplnrlz I wish I was Canadian... America isn't quite cold enough

  • @zplnrlz

I know what you mean, I'm Swedish and even I'm not close enough.

    ...And we invented England!

  • @TheFacelessActivist This is one of the stupidist comments I've seen. 'I'm Swedish and even I'm not close enough.' Canadians are a lot closer to the English than the Swedes are, most Canadians being descended from Britons. In what way did Swedes invent England? The Normans 'invented' the England we have today. As far as I know, Sweden had no part in making England.

  • @MallarRallam

Really? Ever read any kind of history from the 1st-13th century? We colonized stuff all over the place. Founded places like Dublin, and also had great influence on Slavic nations, as well as England. We built settlements strewn across all Europe, and words such as "Window" and "Husband" are originally derived from Swedish.

Don't worry, though. I won't hold your remedial grasp of European history against you.

  • @TheFacelessActivist Yes, I have read some history from the 1st century to the 13th century. I'm certain the Swedes didn't found Dublin or influence England, that was probably the Norse. You say I have a remedial grasp of European history, though my knowledge of European history is probably better than yours.

  • @MallarRallam

I doubt it. But since I'm the one here who isn't pretentious: I have no need to prove the contrary to you.

    Good day, and good riddance.

  • @TheFacelessActivist To be fair, having studied the period in question, I'm pretty sure the majority of Scandinavians that arrived in England were Danes, followed by Norwegians. Not Swedes. Even then, the foundation of England as a unified kingdom had more to do with the West Saxons than the Scandinavians or Anglo-Scandinavians. Also, the 1st-13th century is far too wide a timeframe. More like 7th-11th.

  • @Harpsichord45

Really now? Remind me again: Which year was Dublin founded? And is the Gaelic not a significant part of Great Britain?

And it was mixed Scandinavians, Danes, Swedes and Norwegians. To claim the Swedes didn't colonize is absolutely preposterous, since several English settlements and villages have Swedish names even in modern ages.

  • The graphic designer who created the cover for this album is Michael Horton and still available as a graphic designer. Although I haven't met Michael yet and only spoke with him on the phone, he is a very pleasant chap and the cover he created for the Kinks and many other famous bands is phenomenol.

  • Morning... sergeant?

  • no need for comparison. both great bands.

  • @05C4RK1NR055 hahahah

  • If I have to choose 10 bands of all times and all the currents are a Kinks

  • With the Kinks it has always been interesting to seperate satire from their true feelings. "Tounge in cheek" may be the message, or not. That is why I am a fan. Although making a joke of things assosiated with "the village green", he strikes me as very UK nationalist...as in we aknowledge change, but not at the challenge of what english means. I can like his music without being pro-UK...:)

  • "God save strawberry jam and all its different varities" are possibly the most brilliant lyrics ever written. Love the Kinks!

  • @cuteduckies254 I'll take "God save the George Cross, and all those who were awarded 'em", but mainly because it's used as a a rhyme for "consortium". Brilliant songwriting, Mr Davies.

  • the kinks are way better than the beatles.

  • @HarpoonTorpedo Wish more people could think so, I think the same too.

  • @HarpoonTorpedo I know!!!! but the beatles are more famous...i don't get it do you???

  • 1:16

  • Seriously the coolest song ever.

  • Mornin' Sergeant.

  • mens heath

  • Hot Fuzz brought me here, but its not why I came back.

  • thumbs down to the idiots who dislike this.

  • @robbiejohnson2011 I see what you did there

  • I work at a retirement home called Village Green.

  • @middleC17 As long as you pipe this album through your speakers 24/7, I'm sure your residents will be rockin' through their later years. It would be ironic, because that's also the name of the album.

  • And then The Who did Tommy and Quadrephenia and The Kinks were eclipsed; ah well!

  • @Olamtir NOPE!

  • @spiers240 Well, you're wrong. lol

  • fumbs up if ur wathcen dis coz ur gya trolololol

  • Stupid question - is this song meant to be ironic?

  • @firestartertwistedfi Ironic?

It's supposed to be lamenting about old English virtues and values (especially the traditional village green) and the good old cartoons and English literature - something that has been increasingly destroyed in the last 30 years.

Today, it takes the form of a sad song - how far England has fallen from what is was before.

  • @Olamtir no way you mad man, it's lampooning middle English values, you can't seriously think they want 'god' to save all this shit, 'office block persecution affinity' and 'virginity' are dead giveaways.

  • @spiers240 Are you crazy?

'Office Block Persecution' - they don't like office blocks.

'God save little shops, china cups and virginity' - Little shops have been replaced by Tesco, China cups by plastic and virginity by promiscuity at 11.

They're lamenting over the loss of English values...

  • god save donald duck

    god save strawberry jam LOLLOLLOLLOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Good morning sargent

  • Thumps up if you were shocked to see that a cover came before the kinks verson in the search results

  • Say goodbye to Mrs Windsor. Ray Davies for President of the British Republic..

  • It reminds me of old Great Britain...what happened?

  • Much of the things I've seen that involve British people have something to do with this song ALWAYS. Well, I do kinda like it anyway. c:

  • I liked The Kinks before Hot Fuzz, but I think awesome people found this song because of the movie. With all the complaining retro fans do about the state of new music, you think most of us would be thrilled when new people discover the classics (regardless of how they found them).

  • @ManifestoLynn

I had no idea that people were discovering the kinks through that movie, i've always just assumed they were a band everyone knew like the beatles or something! but that is cool :)

  • @ManifestoLynn hear hear!

  • Sorry if this is offending... but i prefere Kate Rusby's version.

  • F-ing KILLER guitar riff!

  • 8 people vote Labour

  • it said im 55 but acutally im 53

  • I'm watching because of the classic band THE KINKS

  • Mornin' Sergeant.

  • Thumbs Up if you're watching this because of Zero Punctuation.

  • Did anyone else get here via Jam and Jerusalem? The music for that show is a cover of this by Kate Rusby. (Jam and Jerusalem is called 'Clatterford' in North America.)

  • 名盤、THE VILLAGE GREEN RESERVATION SOCIETY by KINKS、当時、奥深さがわからなかった、今も!

  • Does it matter why you are watching, it's awesome, and you're watching it so that's all that matters. By the way, this is definitely the soundtrack to todays beautiful summer day

  • Well, I'm at an impasse... I love "Hot Fuzz" which led me to "The Kinks", but in no way am I watching this because of it. Pricks

  • this video should have more views....

  • hot fuzz is a British action comedy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. the same two guys who did shaun of the dead

  • I thought more British people would actually be fans of...OH THE KINKS CAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME !!!

  • @nico623 Plenty of us are!

  • @Loganberrybunny Good cause I'm in my mid 20's and definitely love them more then those common bugs. Along with Terry Reid ! The man that could have been Robert Plant but isn't...and still rocking it !

  • who is hot fuzz.Never heard of 'em.Who cares.Good song by the kinks.Italian Job is a movie staring Micheal Caine

  • @aaron4wilkins hot fuzz is a film with this song in it - amazing film BTW

  • @aaron4wilkins hot fuzz is a British action comedy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. the same two guys who did shaun of the dead

  • who is hot fuzz.Never heard of 'em.Who cares.Good song by the kinks.Itlain Job is a movie staring Micheal Caine

  • what is Hot Fuzz?

  • Thumbs up if you noticed the 2 highest rated comments are the same, and you think they should burn in hell.

If you really thumbs up this comment you are a dumbass.

    Bitch.

  • thumbs up if you're here because village green preservation society is the best album of all time

  • God save this bass line.

  • its kind of sad that such a great band is only remembered cos of a film lol, but still, good in a way cos it introduces people to epic music. :)

  • loving that this song is now almost entirely known for hot fuzz haha

  • loving that this song is now almost entirely known for hot fuzz haha

  • Comment removed

  • Here because of Zero Punctuation, fuck hot fuzz.

  • Yet another cool song by the Kinks. How is that they got so overlooked by the Stones, Who, Beatles. These guys are fantastic.

  • Thumbs up if you knew of the Kinks but not their songs, and gradually found out that all the songs you loved were by the Kinks, and they you hear it again in Hot Fuzz but only just found out it was The Kinks.

  • HOT FUZZ ROCKS!!!

  • SWAN!!

  • heh. Jam and Jerusalem

  • The vocal harmonies really make this song great. I miss real voices, fuck autotuning!

  • DON'T thumbs up if you're sick and tired of people asking you to thumb up their comments!

  • @jmarr100 Uh, okay.

  • HAHAHAAH HOT FUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • @Shut0w3n arses

  • "god saved Donald Duck"? LOL

  • I will add, that yes, it is obviously about England, but he has said previously that SF is home spiritually for him, and VGPS can be relevant not only throughout England but in San Francisco and elsewhere

  • thumbs up if youre an American like me (from SF Bay Area) who never saw Hot Fuzz and didnt care because I loved this album when I was one of only 25,000 people who had this album for decades before you Brits realized it was a masterpiece. Ray said in his recent bio Imaginary Man he wrote this album with us folks in San Franicisco in mind because he's in tune with us and wanted us to have something more than hippies playing 25 minute guitar solos...honestly! check out Ray Davies Bio part 5

  • @kinksboss1 this is just one song out of thousands of masterpieces that are common knowledge to British people... films like hot fuzz jog our memories to the songs we've grown up listening to but which have been pushed to one side by the untold millions of factory standard shit america pumps out ringing in our ears.

    so stfu you grumpy american.

  • @automaterialism I dont disagree about the mainstream shit being pumped out here in the 20th century, it is indeed garbage with some notable exceptions, but dont forget what country invented rock and roll. And what makes me grumpy? I saw bits of Hot Fuzz, and it was no Monty Python as far as great humor goes. Did you watch Ray Davies Bio 5 on YT, about 3 minutes in? He said he also had SF in mind when he made VGPS. Why do have to be so crass and ingnorant?

  • lol you remind me of that south park episode where kyle moved to San Francisco where everyone loved the smell of their own farts. SMUG ALERT!

  • @automaterialism ha, dont watch south park, and dont get it at the end...lost in translation. But what I said is the ALBUM of VGPS speaks directlly to places like San Francisco Bay Area, and I am proud to be an owner and fan of this album since my older brother brought it back from a used record store at UC Berkeley in the 70's

  • @kinksboss1 quite frankly my dear. i don't give a damn

  • plese stop the "theumbs up" coments! they're just annoying

  • The Kinks burst in with some classic 'heavy' riff driven records and then morphed into commentators on the English 'scene' ~ Groovy Man!

  • I saw Hot Fuzz and loved it, but I must admit I'm watching this because of YAHTZEE.

  • 8 people could not get into the preservation society

  • @Yung1Reviews what an original comment did you come up with it

  • @theband1969 why yes i didn't

  • hot fuzz

  • Thumbs up if you're not watchin this because of Hot Fuzz.

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl nothing wrong with watching this because of hot fuzz, its a great movie and if it introduces people to kinks, then all the better!

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl What is hot fuzz?

  • @FuckedUpWebcamShows A movie with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Also the "fuzz" is usually used as slang for police officers.

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl you should be thanking Hot Fuzz, why is it bad that a modern film is embracing a good song? We have to find songs from somewhere, thank you Hot Fuzz.

  • @iparanoidandroid This. This is how I learned about my favorite artists. I recognized one of their songs from a movie or commercial and searched the rest of their music.

  • @iparanoidandroid No one has a problem with finding out about songs through films but it gets annoying when every wee fanny says "thumbs up if Hot Fuzz brought you here" or whatever on every song from a film or tv show.

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl What the nut is Hot Fuzz?

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl what part of hot fuzz was this in?

  • @sirap10117 His first day in the village when he was doing his morning jog.

  • @sirap10117 when he starts jogging

  • @sirap10117 when he goes to sandford

  • @BeLiketheSquerrl Hot Fuzz got over 1 million thumbs up

  • Its funny all these songs I've had in my head since I was about 8 (I am 14 now) turned out to be by The Kinks xD

  • this was apparently the first song i ever heard in my life.

  • And so the Kinks lay down the foundations on which Britpop would explode from.

  • Why the feck can't I find this great song on itunes????!!!??

  • i dont remember this playing in hot fuzz?

    anyway i love the kinks

  • 8 dislikes? How can anyone dislike this?

  • I love that drum track

  • Love this song

  • no way. I had no idea this was one of ray's songs, untill i was reading the notes in his new album, ray davies and friends. the version i always here on rad 2 is sung by a female vocalist. its a bit more folksounding, suits the song, covers for me usally ruin the song. love the kinks.

  • @MrTillyayre and if you listen carefully you stupid boy, youll here that this is where the theme tune for the cricket comes from. how very apt. i could be back in kent on a sunday avo on the village green in leigh. happy days.

  • i dont think their is any thing that's more english than this song.

  • @LoganLive09 particularly the bit about Donald Duck, but I think you may have a point

  • Morning Angle

  • I like the part where they sing "We are the village green preservation society"

  • i like the ooo ooooooo part

  • Morning Angle.

  • thanks buddy my old tapes feel new cool pepole lisen to kinks gotta smoke run in the road peaVGGIJK -W VUGCFMFMJHGVBK,NH

  • Charlie Watts and Mick Avory were both jazz drummers who played with rock bands. Matter of fact, Mick Avory was considered by the Stones for the position with their band and played a few gigs with them in 1962 or '63 before the Stones hired Watts.

  • 大好きな曲…The Kinks - The Village Green Preservation Society

  • Favorite Kinks song, which reminds me of my favorite movie :)

  • @pptimee hot fuzz by any chance? :)
