It's probably not set up. Either the scope was WAY off, or she's a terrible shot. From the quality and size of the animal in the shot (the camera's), it cant be more than a couple hundred yards away, for which a scope is completely unnecessary anyway.

There could easily be a fence on the other side of the hill, but a canned hunt doesn't necessarily involve fencing the animals in. Usually, canned hunts consist of shooting animals that were raised in captivity but taken to a wilderness area for the kill, with or without fences.
"reality" shows been around long enough for us to know that it's EDITED, EXAGGERATED, SCRIPTED, and STAGED. Even the real life ER shows had some staged moments, with the exception of blood, guts, and gore.

Im from the yukon , shot 2 caribou so far. Basically after the first shot they usually pause for about 1 - 2 seconds and are like confused, and then they start running. Ok, as an Alaskan resident, I can tell you that if this is filmed in AK, there's no "game farms" that she'd shot the 'bou on...secondly, you'd be surprised at much the tundra can absorb shock wave & sounds from the rifle shots, & thridly, I've hunted 'bou before, & they're not like deer you see on show's in the US, where they run at the first sound of any twig breakin'. & Lastly...I'm no SP fan...
Hunting is fine if you are going to use the animal or if a population of a certain species is over running a zone and destroying the habitat.
However if you are in a controlled setting and just hunting for sport without any other reason, it's messed up. Especially if you are bad at shooting, because then your lack of skill will make the creature suffer even more before dying.
most animals don't run when being shot at from that distance. They don't know what is going on. Then you add in that Alaska caribou have little hunting pressure that alot of hunters walk pretty much right up to them. This caribous posture tail up, neck up, and keeping an eye on the hunter shows that he had spotted the source of the sound however the wind was in there favor and it didn't know what they were.

Caribou often don't flee until a predator gets very close.They know how close they can let a wolf or bear get before they need to flee. These hunters were maybe 150 yards from the caribou. Palin was shooting wild. If you aren't sure you have an excellent chance of taking your caribou down in one shot you shouldn't be pulling the trigger. I went caribou hunting one time and got my caribou with one shot at 50 yards without a scope.
I call BS on this "hunt" number one because if this woman loved hunting so much, if she loved shooting so much, she'd have her own rifle and KNOW it was on target. She would cycle her own shells. Hunters hunt for the same reason that all humans crave social interaction or even sex - it is human nature. How better to return to nature than by participating in it? HUMANS ARE PART OF NATURE; we are animals that evolved like everything else. We hunt because we love nature, and that's hard for many to understand. Hunters are the original conservationists. Nature isn't just 'the world outside the city', IT IS THE WORLD and the anthropocentric masses have forgotten that.
1. Sarah Palin is clearly a rookie hunter and gun handler, but in fairness she was given a rifle that was not sighted in. She made the shot with the second (accurate) rifle.
2. Caribou are notorious for their lack of fear of humans. I've personally had them approach me out of curiosity as I waved at them. Moreover, a wild animal may not associate a gunshot with humans, but a voice will usually scare them.

Animals don't necessarily run at noise especially a sharp crack hundreds of yards away. The failed shots were obviously from the scope being out of whack. When you buy meat at the store or a resturant the animals were BORN into a ranch where they are many times raised in horrendous conditions and slaughtered in a very brutal manner that causes a lot of suffering. I'd say a deer running around on a big farm that gets shot one day has it pretty easy compared to other animals

Im from the yukon , shot 2 caribou so far. Basically after the first shot they usually pause for about 1 - 2 seconds and are like confused, and then they start running. Hunting is fine if you are going to use the animal or if a population of a certain species is over running a zone and destroying the habitat.
However if you are in a controlled setting and just hunting for sport without any other reason, it's messed up. Especially if you are bad at shooting, because then your lack of skill will make the creature suffer even more before dying.

Then you add in that Alaska caribou have little hunting pressure that alot of hunters walk pretty much right up to them. This caribous posture tail up, neck up, and keeping an eye on the hunter shows that he had spotted the source of the sound however the wind was in there favor and it didn't know what they were.

Caribou often don't flee until a predator gets very close.They know how close they can let a wolf or bear get before they need to flee. These hunters were maybe 150 yards from the caribou. Palin was shooting wild. If you aren't sure you have an excellent chance of taking your caribou down in one shot you shouldn't be pulling the trigger. I went caribou hunting one time and got my caribou with one shot at 50 yards without a scope.

I call BS on this "hunt" number one because if this woman loved hunting so much, if she loved shooting so much, she'd have her own rifle and KNOW it was on target. She would cycle her own shells. okay, so many people here are probably not hunters. When you shoot at an animal and miss, it useally doesn't know where the sounds are coming from. They don't want to run toward the noise. In my opinion these people don't know what they're talking about at 4:45. The rifle's sight that she was using first got screwed up because her dad fell while he was carrying it. Also if you really think about it, and you look at how a cow lives, and how a caribou lives, you'd rather have caribou.

1. Sarah Palin is clearly a rookie hunter and gun handler, but in fairness she was given a rifle that was not sighted in. She made the shot with the second (accurate) rifle.
2. Caribou are notorious for their lack of fear of humans. I've personally had them approach me out of curiosity as I waved at them. Moreover, a wild animal may not associate a gunshot with humans, but a voice will usually scare them.
3. Scene with 'crosshairs' was an edit, not actual footage through a scope!

@CaliforniaCatholic hahahahaha Yeah, we don't own guns(over 20), don't hunt(pheasants, coyotes, deer, quail, turkey), and don't fish(any, salt or fresh). Palin SAYS she hunts and fishes, judging by the "does it kick", I'm gonna say she doesn't shoot much. I can tell how hard a rifle will kick by the caliber, why can't she? I'm a real american and a 14th generation one at that. I'll bet Sarah can't go back 4 generations.

whats funny to me is that these reporters literally do not know shit about hunting. In large areas where animals can roam freely (alaskan tundra in this case), they are not wary at all because the hunting pressure is not there. They rip on her shooting, but the first shot with the backup gun, she drops it stone dead. This is because the scope is off zero, not because of alleged "poor shooting skills." That would be why she kept shooting high over the animal.

Also, I never ask if a gun is going to kick, because i try not to hunt with someone esle's guns. BTW dipshit, did SHE drop the animal or did someone else, cause all I saw was a bullshit crosshair around the bou, just before it was shot, I never saw Sarah actually shoot it. I don't like hunting. I think it's trivial and Unnecessary, but atleast those hunters use the meat! I may be some Pussy animal lover, but Christ doesn't this just irritate you? There was no use, but a cheap scene from her bullshit show. No reason to capture, stress, and set up that animal. Which wasn't even used.
