Its just (by the video) Baron doesn't seem to acknowlege Ellis with a "nice dime" or nothing. So it just makes me wonder if Baron even thought it was a pass or did he think he got the put back dunk. I've had cats pass it to me off the backboard on a 2 on 1 fast break but they always noted that they passed it and it wasn't a missed layup, probably just to save face, who knows.

It's still not that easy. When you are running full speed down the court, there is something called inertia. the Ball still has forward momentum, so even if it would've gone in normally, it bounces hard off the backboard and in some cases misses the rim entirely.

When you scoop the ball, you are pushing it up. In a normal layup, gravity bring it down in time. But with the added speed, it is harder to control the ball. 2 defenders in your face don't help either.
