As a student at Simon Fraser University I would like to hear more about what you personally think about Julian Assage. Your answers will be included in my report.
1. Tell me about Julian Assange – what do you know about him? What words or images would you associate with him?
2. How do you feel about the issues surrounding Julian Assange?
3. Do you support or not support him, why? Email me your responses at ktd@sfu.ca or reply to this message.
PM of Australia said on TV that when she visited USG Obama NO MENTION OF JULIAN ASSANGE WAS MADE TO HER -- I find that questionable. and if TRUE then WHY did she not ask about Julian Assange and ask for his safe return to Australia?
PM is hypocrite to not stand up for her own citizens. She came here to give money for a monument - and did not have talk about Assange I DON'T BELIEVE HER.
Those in positions of power who are greedy, arrogant and have gravely abused their power have made it necessary for an organization like wikileaks to be founded. If the public didn't feel cheated, lied to and robbed, there would be little support for wikileaks. Those in power can only blame themselves. We really need radical change at this point. I am a big fan of wikileaks and I think at this point we just need to put everything on the table for examination.
Julian was born in my town (townsville, qld, australia).. and was raised on a island just off our coast (maggie island)... haha they named a few of their public toilets after him the papers wrote.. and named them Wikileaks in his honor , aha
As an aussie congrats to Julian and I wish him well, the only problem I see looking further ahead is governments will become more inward and much more protective of information.
I hope not.
Information can only become public based on the accessibility of those who access to it, hence no leaks from inward thing governments like those of China, Iran, Russia etc. For every positive there is invariably a negative, lets hope for a long term better world for all.
Just hears that Spielberg bought the rights to "The Wikileaks Story." Under current "terrorism laws", does this mean that (a) he's giving "material aid to a terrorist organization"? And (b), will he and the rest of the Dreamworks staff and management be arrested?

It's almost surreal...you can tell that this is very, very important yet almost science fiction-like at the same time. Like the future has really arrived, esp. with the internet connecting the whole world...
Facebook and Twitter playing a role in the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, the whole thing with Anonymous...there's so much radical change it's unreal. Let all governments fear our power!
I love WikiLeaks! VIVA LA JULIAN ASSANGE! YOU ARE A HERO TO THE WOLRD!

For example, the re-election of Bush, that was such a stupid move made by people that have been stupefied by a history that only talks through Coca Cola gingles.
"Thank you for your good will. We will keep the faith with you, and you can will us strong" - Julian Assange

This man will be known in history for ever, as the man who set freedom to the world. Why? Because for the first time in history, the internet connects us together, we are all becoming one. No matter which nation, color, or religion, we are together at last, demanding freedom
Mr. Assange you are a hero. You are a hero of millions of people suffering because of wars. You have supporters not only in Australia but from all over the world. You are not alone. Don´t give up. Yes, there is storm right now but one day there will be sunshine. Yes to Wikileaks.
No to wars and secret prisons. And please support the Palestinan people who are suffering, too. Free Palestine
Keep up the good work Julian, we are with you. We too are silenced and victimized by our own Country, Canada. You will change history! Way to go. All the best
Assange your movement is contagious, aljazeera did a Massive new leak with Shocking revelations about Israeli-Palestinian negotiations Abas will be next after Mubarak
Thank you for coming to this rally, your presence here, at home, in workplaces and online is exactly what is needed to keep us strong. I really wish I could be with you in person, I can not wait to be back in Melbourne, where i have found memories of taking a tram up Swanson St. dropping in at trades hall and having my favourite coffee at the new international book shop.Although we are far apart at the moment.
I follow news from home regularly. I have been hardened, not just by the stories of support for our organisation, but the stories of everyday kindness Australians have showen to one another during the floods. That too is a matter of comfort to all of us, who believe in basic human decency. As a journalist i am used to reporting the news rather then addressing rallies, but these are not ordinary times
@normankeena I'm pretty sure Assange says "heartened" not "hardened" ....I think you'll find it makes a lot more sense! BTW I appreciate you providing the transcript ....Great Job!!!
The times we are going through constitute a generational challenge. The US civil rights struggles of the 1950s also constituted a generational challenge. As did the peace movement of the late 1960s, feminist movements different periods of the 20th century and the awakening environmental consciousness that has taken hold in recent years , for the Internet generation this is our challenge and this is our time.
This brings me to another point. We at Wikileaks recognise the difference between secrecy and privacy. Individuals not governments have the right to privacy.
We believe in transparent power not transparent people. We publish material that is in the public interest, for us as the European court of human rights and British court of appeals have held. The decisive factor in balancing the protection of private life against the freedom of expression should lie in the contribution the material has to make to the debate of general interest.
We support a cause that is no more radical a proposition then that the citizenry
has a right to scrutinise the state, the state has asserted its' authority by surveillance monitoring and regimenting all of us. All the while hiding behind cloak of secrecy and opaqueness. Surely it was only a matter of time before citizens pushed back and we asserted our rights.
We have been deeply moved by the concern Australians have shown for us but I ask that you turn your concern into action , insist that the attack on my staff an my organisation stop . Insist that i be allowed to return home . Insist that the Australian government come clean on all its interactions with foreign powers in relation to our organisation . Thank you for your good will , We'll keep the faith with you and you will keep us strong
I want to assure you we will not mimic the timidity and subservience to power that some other media organisations have , if that is what it means to go mainstream then we are happy to stay where we are at the front line of the truth, we will as Don Chipp dreamed, try to keep the bastards honest
We are eternally greatful to your strong support in helping us stand up to the bullys. Juian Gillard should be taking active steps to bring me home and to protect our people , she should be contacting the US embassy and demanding that it back off.
As for the future we are , as determined as ever , with your help and support we will make our way through this storm and continue to publish and hold powerful and abusive organisations to account.
And it is interesting how some politicians single out my staff and myself for attack , while saying nothing about the slaughter of thousands by the US military or other dictatorships , and saying nothing about other much wealthier and powerful news organisations that publish material in partnership with us, it is cowardly to bully a small media organisation but that is what is happening here.
I find it interesting that some politicians have no intention of applying the precautionary principals when it comes to the environment but assert it when it comes to our reporting they conjure hypothetical scenarios , and claim that some how some day our stories might somehow harm someone somewhere but we have a four year publishing history a history of not harming a single individual anywhere .
, because you and i should be in no doubt on one thing, we are a media organisation I am a publisher and I am a journalist. I have been a member of the 'media entertainment and arts alliance' Australias top journalists union for years I published my first book when I was 25 yrs old. There has been outrageous calls to have me and my staff killed, clear cases of incitement to violence, Yet the Australian government has condoned this behaviour by its' diplomatic silence.
And it is surely a matter of public interest that the labour government has secretly been working to shield from prosecution Indonesian figures who killed an Australian journalist in East Timor . Wikileaks brought this information out to the public as well. It would appear the labour government today is doing what the labour government did in 1975 regarding East Timor talking about human rights while trying to down play attacks on journalists
It is surely a matter op public information that the US secretary of state Hilary Clinton has been running a secret campaign directed at the leadership of the UN demanding passwords DNA personal encryption keys, credit card numbers e-mail addresses an so on. That targeting is illegal under the 1946 UN convention on privileges and immunities and illegal under the 1961 Vienna convention on diplomatic relations.
"The weak have to be protected", which is absolutely true, but there are TWO levels involved:
LEVEL 1: The 'weak' that are strong in heart but weak in number. They are outnumbered by the oppressor, who has the 'self-righteousness' of force (and the many programmed slaves that execute that force) on their side.
LEVEL 2: The actual weak: the oppressors and their programmed slaves. The only thing they have going for them, is their lust for power and the ability to mind-program people to get it.
It is surely a matter of public interest that Australian politicians secretly brief foreign embassies , in effect providing them with political intelligence on the Australian government , while concealing these vital facts from those who actually elected them to office. Wikileaks has brought this important information to the public.
From Canada: we got them to reverse a potential shitstorm just the other day. everyone make those calls and emails and faxes. and most importantly, get others to do it as well. form letters are bad, you should write your own letter to all your newspapers etc. they can not do what the people don't want. go hence
I am looking forward to the Australian government's call for the US military and government to be prosecuted over their war crimes which have been confirmed by the leaked video and war diaries. Can't wait! GO JULIAN
Don't sit on the sidelines - maybe even placing bets - waiting for others to defend WikiLeaks!
Do not use services of corporations that are *working with* government to destroy WikiLeaks by acceding to government suggestions or hints rather than (ie. PayPal, MasterCard and Visa) requiring the government to get a court to *order them* to refuse to transfer customer money & for Amazon to terminate the hosting service 4 WikiLeaks. "Are Principles Unaffordable?" - see it online
Good luck to you Julian. We'll have you back here in Australia one day. No matter what political turmoil it takes to do so, we'll ensure the political environment is friendly to you and organisations like Wikileaks.
At least give credit where credit is due. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence" is by the Great Christopher Hitchens. Do not use the words of a dying man as your own for your own benefit. It's sickening.
While you quoted Hitch accurately, what Assange actually says is, "That which is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without argument." While yes, the quotes are similar, the judging of proof burdens in this manner is practically as old as philosophy itself. I'm not sure anyone should, or even can, claim to deserve credit.
And besides, Hitch has said far more interesting and brilliant things than the statement of a simple universal rule.
Deep gratitude for all of you endurance and courage. We are behind you in peace, harmony, strength, action and desire and willingness to create a world where truth is at the basis of our societies as well as goodwill the source of our governments.
One of many truths impacting me when I was there watching this live last night were the speeches by other prominent australians in media as well as Peter Gordon from Gordon & Slater criticising his former law firm colleage Julia Gillard (Australian Prime Minister) for her poor choice of words and complete disregard to offering protection of one of our own Australian citizens. Julian needs to still be taken care of - he is one of our own and has committed no crimes under Australian or US laws!
It's absolutely hideous to read that both the NY Times and the Guardian were over there at Columbia University this week bending over for the powers that be.
After they were licking their chops on the info JA brought them.
Never the less we are now witnessing an atmosphere of uprising in the world that most liking will continue, not die down, to level the playing field...
WikiLeaks & Assange are highly deserving to be defended & supported. WikiLeaks is not defended & supported when individuals use services of corporations that are *working with* government to destroy WikiLeaks by acceding to government suggestions or hints rather than (ie. PayPal, MasterCard and Visa) requiring government to get a court to *order them* to refuse to transfer customer money & for Amazon to terminate the hosting service 4 WikiLeaks. Online - "Are Principles Unaffordable?"
Julian our Geert Wilders! I was looking for an honest and strong man, with great morals, that will stand up for our freedom. Good for you Julian, you are my hero and I know a lot of Australian people also think like that!
since you are under house arrest, i think that you should make a video series along these lines. comment about the leaks, elaborate upon the implications of the materials, and keep your name clear by commenting on the comments against you
While I do support his efforts to out classified and confidential reports of corruption, I'm pretty sure he's an egotistical asswipe that heads a poorly organized group with massive hierarchal problems. But hey, the kids gotta have a hero.
You are a hero, Julian. Brave men like you make me so very proud to be Aussie. This is what diggers die to protect and you're no different from any of the boys in khaki green. Keep the bastards honest!
Keep strong Julian. You are our hero and don´t forget that. The critisim agains u are absolut disgusting. But I can say we know Mr. Assange.Good luck Julian in the next time.
@MonsieurSinan Oh yeah, we know those rape allegations are a big lie! You are to sensitive a man, to be able to hurt a woman. I think you would be a treat for any woman. Men with feelings are so appealing!
Justice for Julian Now! Julia Gillard is a disgraceful attempt at being human 8/

Friends:
Re-arrange "Julian Assange " and you will get " Anga Jesus Nail "
" Anga " is Greek for " Messenger of God ".
The " Nail " part is a symbol of Christ's Crucifixion.
Also...in a description of Christ by John in Revelations:
"His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow"
"His Voice like rushing waters"
"Out of his mouth came a sharp double-edge sword."

As a journalist i am used to reporting the news rather then addressing rallies, but these are not ordinary times
normankeena 1 year ago
@normankeena I'm pretty sure Assange says "heartened" not "hardened" ....I think you'll find it makes a lot more sense! BTW I appreciate you providing the transcript ....Great Job!!!

The times we are going through constitute a generational challenge. The US civil rights struggles of the 1950s also constituted a generational challenge. As did the peace movement of the late 1960s, feminist movements different periods of the 20th century and the awakening environmental consciousness that has taken hold in recent years , for the Internet generation this is our challenge and this is our time.
normankeena 1 year ago
This brings me to another point. We at Wikileaks recognise the difference between secrecy and privacy. Individuals not governments have the right to privacy.
normankeena 1 year ago 5
We believe in transparent power not transparent people. We publish material that is in the public interest, for us as the European court of human rights and British court of appeals have held. The decisive factor in balancing the protection of private life against the freedom of expression should lie in the contribution the material has to make to the debate of general interest.
normankeena 1 year ago

Thank you for your good will , We'll keep the faith with you and you will keep us strong
normankeena 1 year ago 2
I want to assure you we will not mimic the timidity and subservience to power that some other media organisations have , if that is what it means to go mainstream then we are happy to stay where we are at the front line of the truth, we will as Don Chipp dreamed, try to keep the bastards honest
normankeena 1 year ago
We are eternally greatful to your strong support in helping us stand up to the bullys. Juian Gillard should be taking active steps to bring me home and to protect our people , she should be contacting the US embassy and demanding that it back off.
As for the future we are , as determined as ever , with your help and support we will make our way through this storm and continue to publish and hold powerful and abusive organisations to account.
normankeena 1 year ago
And it is interesting how some politicians single out my staff and myself for attack , while saying nothing about the slaughter of thousands by the US military or other dictatorships , and saying nothing about other much wealthier and powerful news organisations that publish material in partnership with us, it is cowardly to bully a small media organisation but that is what is happening here.

they provide no evidence of actual harm . so i say to you. that which is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without argument.

I find it interesting that some politicians have no intention of applying the precautionary principals when it comes to the environment but assert it when it comes to our reporting they conjure hypothetical scenarios , and claim that some how some day our stories might somehow harm someone somewhere but we have a four year publishing history a history of not harming a single individual anywhere .
normankeena 1 year ago
, because you and i should be in no doubt on one thing, we are a media organisation I am a publisher and I am a journalist. I have been a member of the 'media entertainment and arts alliance' Australias top journalists union for years I published my first book when I was 25 yrs old. There has been outrageous calls to have me and my staff killed, clear cases of incitement to violence, Yet the Australian government has condoned this behaviour by its' diplomatic silence.
normankeena 1 year ago
And it is surely a matter of public interest that the labour government has secretly been working to shield from prosecution Indonesian figures who killed an Australian journalist in East Timor . Wikileaks brought this information out to the public as well. It would appear the labour government today is doing what the labour government did in 1975 regarding East Timor talking about human rights while trying to down play attacks on journalists
normankeena 1 year ago

The only thing they have going for them, is their lust for power and the ability to mind-program people to get it.
godvergeten 1 year ago
It is surely a matter of public interest that Australian politicians secretly brief foreign embassies , in effect providing them with political intelligence on the Australian government , while concealing these vital facts from those who actually elected them to office. Wikileaks has brought this important information to the public.

At least give credit where credit is due. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence" is by the Great Christopher Hitchens. Do not use the words of a dying man as your own for your own benefit. It's sickening.
crixus 1 year ago
@crixus
