  • Awesome drummer.

  • he probably has to use a new pair of sticks for every song o_O

  • burgers!!! Justin bacon: Bacon, Bacon Bacon, only Raymond and I have an amazing inside joke! lol

  • such a good talent! rest for now Raymond as i make big steps to invent my talent hoover!!!

  • I'm so glad I bough the special edition with all this on DVD, now i just need to find i in my collection :(

  • He is very strong drummer.

  • One of my god drummers!!! Grande Raymond Herrera, eres y serás uno de los mejores.

  • do u have a fan underneath ur legs to keep ur balls cool?

  • Machette turned drummer

  • @Z1CAUSEDEATH They didn't scrap it. its on a special edition of the CD that i'm still trying to locate online.

  • You can only imagine how many drums sets he must go through in a month...

  • I think he hates his drums, that's why he wants to smash them so hard

  • Shame there isn't an empty vision video here on youtube.

  • Brilliant drummer and fucking amazing legendary band. FF for life!

  • tomas haake and raymond should seriously do a drum battle...i would give anything to watch them play live!!

  • man i wanna hear empty vision someone please pload it again

  • Those legs must be hard as steel.

  • nah not the best but I gotta give him credit he got good kicks but it takes more than double bass technique to be the best u gotta have everything the kicks the fills and of course GROOVE I say Gene Hoglan is the better drummer for fear factory

  • @MRPric3LEss i dont doubt that gene may be a better drummer but i really think that raymond is THE drummer for fear factory. its like when dino wasnt in the band it just seemed to be misssing something and thats exactly how it is now without raymond. not using his hands as much makes his playing sound more like a drum machine and less human than gene's playing. i think fear factory is supposed to sound machine like and with gene in it , its just isnt so

  • @cujjer yeah I agree with ya, but Mechanize is still one hell of an album, way better than the Arkaea album!

  • @leechmaster21 indeed it is, christian was an awful guitarist and bass guitarist

  • sounds amazing but that ride sounds like shit

  • Empty Vision that is! -- My legs just give out

  • Favorite drummer! I can drum a lot of peoples stuff, like August Burns Red, Korn, Deftones, Soulfly, a little bit of Slipknot, but this song, I swear I cannot get half way through it. It kills my feet.

  • why did they scrap My Grave? Would have been the best track on that cd.

  • SEE MY DRUM VIDEO

  • Raymond... One of the best when it comes to footwork!!!!!!!!

  • Raymond is the Man!!!! To bad he left fear factory....

  • looks like a gretsch kit, anybody know?

  • @duufus69 Tama, hes used them for a long time and i can see from the starcast mounts

  • is it just me, or are those really small bass drums? the beaters seem to be hitting so fucking high on the skin, it looks wierd

  • @amusingisthedawn they´re 16". perfect for studio. the real sound they make doesnt matter, its all triggered and edited.

  • @antibulletdodger101 cant see them being that small, thats tiny and the beaters would probably miss the skin if they were,20" more likely,no one uses 16 or 18" kicks

  • @drumdemon3 check the diamter of the bassdrum and Herreras lower leg. If that´s a 20" drum his lower leg would be crazy long

  • People that complains about trigger have NO idea of his utility. Triggers are there for a certain purpose. Learn to know what you're talking about.

  • I dont play drums, but this guys got skill...

  • With this style of drumming, a drummer must have massive arms and legs muscles!

  • i love his style. i love playing hard but he makes it sound incredible

  • do they mix up triggers and the miced sound of the bassdrums in the studio ? beacause there's also a mic inside the bassdrums

  • As far as I know, that's what they do yes.

  • It's called warping. They take the acoustic sound and mix it with samples. Almost every band does this nowadays, at least with the bass drum. Everything else is usually recorded simply with a microphone. But it seems we're getting more and more studio dependent these days, sadly...

  • молодчик какой!!!

  • Raymond is great. Screw the haters!!!

  • gosh, I hate it when think they need to hit the drums as hard as possible.....

  • That's what drumming is all about!! If you play the drums and aren't breaking sticks, blistering fingers and cracking cymbals, YOU SUCK!!!!

  • It's not about cracking Cymbols, and breaking sticks. if you think being a good and talented musician means breaking instruments your very wrong.

  • What I meant was this type of music calls for that style of drumming, not Weckle!

  • Oh! You spelled Dave Weckle wrong. David is a very talented musician. Wonder full, masterful pieces of music!

  • Who cares about spelling. Einstein was a horrible speller! The point is to play agressive music you have to wail and not play like a pussy! Jazz is one thing, metal is another!

  • Anyway, you guys can argue all you like about the triggers...my biggest concern is Burton's fuckin terrible singing voice live. Absolutely love the band have seen them live on a couple different occasions and both times I was let down by poor vocals. Sad fact, the guy simply cant sing live, but he can make an awesome studio track.

  • hmm i dont know about that. I know what you mean though. I think its more the fact that on Digimortal he went a bit too full on with the high notes etc, which would be super hard to pull off. Seriously man, try and sing some of that shit haha. But yeh, he is good, i saw him just the other night. Just not up to album standards on some of the songs/.

  • @immolation4u yea but i think he uses the Autotune for studio though

  • Is it just me or does the snare drum not sound very good when you hear the drums on there own ? Probably just the quality of the camera/mics that was recording them I guess.

  • Yeah this guys just rocks his grandma! Love it!

  • hey all of you? shut up... doesn't matter whether he uses triggers or not, most every live metal show i've gone to uses triggers, psycroptics drummer AND romain goulan of necrophagist ahve used triggers, and they slay the shit out of most drummers that don't, doesn't mean your good or bad, just means you've used triggers

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaa yebie :D

  • He's a damn drum-monster...like a machine.

    Love it !

  • Vinnie is overall better than raymond, but there are two beasts on the drums, Jojo Mayer could do the exact same beats moving only three muscles.he's incredible.

  • If Jojo Mayer used double bass pedals AND used his single bass pedal technique with both feet, he would waste most anyone I could think of - with the exception of Virgil Donati perhaps. Both drummers mentioned are far more interesting to listen to, as far as my musical taste goes anyways. Not to say others can't be more interested in this.

  • what are those pads on his bass drums?

  • The red ones are D-Drum triggers :)

  • Those pads are where the magic begins. What you hear here in this video is the original acoustic sound and as you can hear there are many off-tempo hits. What those pads do is they convert the acoustic audio signal into Midi and then his beats get quantized (mistakes and off tempo beats are being corrected), so finally on the album you hear a machine-like drummer and you say "wooow check those double kicks, he is God!" while in fact, what you hear there is the sound engineer's work. No drums.

  • Those are triggers you idiot.

He is a good drummer, hes using triggers the right way; hes not tapping.

Those pads are probably some form of muffling.

  • First, pad = trigger. It's called Trigger Pad actually. Some call it trigger, some pad. It's the same thing, it's used either to contribute to the drums sound with some artificial sound from the connected drum module or to transfer hits to a computer as MIDI. Second, muffling of bass drums is done inside the drum, not outside. Third, if he was as good drummer as we all wish, why would they need to quantize his drumwork in the studio afterwards? Finally, who's the idiot once again?

  • The triggers are the red clamps on the bass hoop connected with XLR cables, muffling can take place outside the bass drum with Impact pads. He doesnt NEED to quantize his drums but he chooses to approach with a different sound with triggers without cheating.

  • Listen to this track here and then listen to the final song on the album. Triggering drums for different sound approach is one thing, quantizing beats is another. You can also check songs from other FF albums and then check their demo or live versions - his bass drums are quantized on the albums. Load for example the beginning of Demanufacture in any audio program and apply bpm grid - the hits match perfectly to it. Nobody plays with such an atomic precision.

  • Those are the triggers working my friend, its what they do; and yes people do play with such atomic precision, its called Articulation.

  • Also Without checking the track, I already know your wrong.

  • OK forget it man, this can go on forever. I checked what u sent me, even this dude doesn't play all the hits completely precise, though he's damn good, and I didn't say Ray didn't play the FF beats, I just say they get quantized afterward for maximum precision.

  • The "maximum precision" ARE the triggers.

  • vinnie paul of pantera aint no way faster, i've listened to pantera and FF, raymond has definitly got this drummin down

  • Becoming has one insane drumbeat by Vinnie Paul, and he is overall better, but Raymon is one hell of a double bass master.

  • Well you can definitely say that Raymond is better at more technical stuff, but Vinnie is still an incredible drummer.

  • Yeah, but Vinnie is also a great drummer.

  • He's badass.

But not like Vinnie Paul >:)

  • he has vinnie paul beat on the foot pedals

  • he hits em too hard, he played it pretty solid here but hitting this hard will screw you're playing up with time, putting too much focus on you're hands takes focus off you're feet... should be Soft hands+heavy feet not the other way around.

  • yes, let's go on teaching Ray Herrera how he's supposed to play, master.

  • Who made you the God of drums? Who's in Fear Factory him or you? Last time I checked its him.. theres alot of jealus drummer out there of him.. not you..

  • Ok Jack Nicholson. I can handle the truth. I agree vinnie Paul of pantera and hell yeah is a really good drummer.. But last time I checked We don't know your name, so until you get in a band and make a name for yourself in the metal drummers scene.. I suggest you stop acting like it.

  • because you dont know my name you cant give me respect? My name is Lance Bennington... you never know who you're talking to or how talented the person you're talking to is, I have put in my time enough on drums to be able to give honest criticism to other drummers. Not hating just truth about playing.

  • Hoglan is a big guy too but he uses his size to help him, he doesn't smash em, he hits them hard to enough to make the right sound and no more. I have seen them both live and Hoglan was wild... Andols Herrick is the best drummer I have seen live.

  • Yeah I've seen all these guys live and I'm big fans of them all...In my opinion Paul Bostaph is the most consistently insane drummer I've seen, Hoglan is damn close too

  • Raymond Herrera another mexican pride for the metal raza... God Bless You Raymond!

  • dude's a fucking master!

how weird is it that he's not full of tattoos? :P

  • tattoos are old-fashioned :)

  • man im gonna miss this drummer from the line up. so many great memories of him. i just hope the hoglan change is good for the band.

  • Hoglan's more of a beast than Herrera

  • Another one underrated drummer......

He has dexterity, skills, his legs endurance is great, he hit hard no matter the triggers.

  • @dexfafara what do you mean no matter the triggers

  • justin is a gay faget who likes cock in his butt hole

  • raymond FTW

  • Have to say that dumkit sounds like shit.

  • amen. but, studio magic will fix that up in no time.

  • with so a fantastic drummer, to make a great song is very easy...

  • he hits it hard atleast, not dependent on triggers...then again no band playing w/ him, idk

  • good but not the best!!

  • <3

    The snare sound is godly.

  • The beat for Empty Vision is impossible

  • fantastic drummer man

  • kick ass

  • I know he uses triggers, so the acoustic sound of his drumkit doesn't really matter, but fuck it!! I can't help thinking his snare and his doublebass sound like shit!!!

  • they record with both, you can see one of the kick mics in the second clip

  • Chances are that the triggers arn't being used for samples. They might just eq them and use it with mic to get a full double bass sound. Not all trigger use is for samples. However, I don't really know how they used them for the album...Never really cared for Fear Factory but the drummer is crazy.

  • I agree he aint playing loadsa fillsmaybe it's because of the feel he trying to create? Check out the track Cyberwaste to hear a few more fills.

Also check out the album Archetype for some more common starightforward double bass on one or two tracks.

Maybe you can also post a video of u playing some of his tracks to show how easy they are?

  • best drummer ever!!!

  • yeah iron cobras :)

  • The reason why Fear Factory sounds so heavy is because Raymond's doublebass follows Christian's guitar crunching riffs. He's not flashy but consistent. Great drummer.

  • And cause he uses triggers...

  • Damn this guy hits hard. It's amazing though.

  • Comment removed

  • 1:26 techno beat from jackass nude stunts LOL

  • hahaha it is :p

  • awesome doublebass

  • I love ray i think that his variation and skill with his double kick is what makes him unique otherwise he would just be like any other drummer right??

  • yup, he needs to do more fills

  • Whether or not he's the best in the world is simply a matter of taste. I personally think he's fantastic, and I enjoy his drumming style. If you don't like him or his style, why bother making statements about him?

    Just my 2 cents.

  • whoever does not like Raymond or FF can go get fucked.

  • what's interesting is the height of his beaters.

  • the height is normal , but he is playing on 20" bass drums so it looks like it's too high but if he was on 22s it would be normal

  • I see, I guess he really liked that sound for the transgression album, it sure is different and interesting. I wonder what he used for Archetype

  • Ray herrerra is an unbelievably shit drummer. He drums like a caveman.

  • He's very accurate though.

  • of course he's accurate, he's playing really shit caveman drumming. very easy to be accurate with this.

check out "aeons of burning galaxies" for accuracy.

  • what the hell are you talking about?

  • I said that he's a fucking shit drummer.

  • what is a shit drummer?

  • yeh me too

  • ok, lets hear you drum, loser.

hes def not the best in the world, but so what...he kills you.

  • got any videos? probably not. Lets hear your band, do you have one? probably not. Most people who talk like you are liars.

have you thought that maybe he is way better then what he plays in ff?

  • He has no videos - but he has a 14 second fart video on his page. Oh, my...so mature.

  • no youre not or you wouldnt feel the need to tell everyone fag

  • no fucking Irish fag that likes to listen to farts is allowed to dis anyone never mind raymond

  • you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. how the fuck can you post so many comments saying the same thing?? if you don't like it go somewhere else retard!!

  • 3 DRUMMERS WHO SOUND LIKE DROM MACHINE. 1.ADRIAN ERRLANDSSON(cradle of filth,2.GEORGE KOLLIAS(nile),3.GENE HOLGEN(DEATH)

  • And one more: Thomas Haake

  • What a drummer machine, fuck yeah

  • a fight uhh...another thing that Herrera can kill Joey...c'mon tell me 3 drummers that can play like a machine...

  • He is an amazing player...in Fear Factory he shows a part of his skills but he also had play in the the band brujeria where he shows that he is fast as hell...but you had to admite that raymond start that awesome style kind a machine play...and a lot of musicians are using today...

    PS: Sorry for my english!!

  • No, lars ulrich started it.

  • Herrera rulez \m/

  • obviously he doesn't try to do complicated beats or something,he just have a diferent style...and of courese he could kill jordison

  • He doesn't try that much complicated beats because that's not the style of the band. And if you're referring to him being able to "kill" Joey Jordison in like a fight.. I'm sure he could. Raymond is a beastly dude. But if you mean that he could "kill" him drumming wise, then you are sadly mistaken.

  • Marco Minnenman doesn't play this kinda music, but if he had to, he'd play what the song needs...

Raymond is awsome and inhumanly fast... he gives exactly what FF requires

  • deffinetly and ya don't need to use the whole kit on a song like some others say. you play what the songs asks for heha. but raymond is deffnetly awsome he's more well known than ummm mr. marco mineman and way better too

  • Anyone else notice he's only using half his kit on every song? What's the point in having those toms if you're not going to use them? Marco Mineman destroys all these little nu metal drummers.

  • Hahaha, do your research, listen to a few Fear Factory songs: This ain't Nu Metal. You are thinking of Linkin Park.

    Fear Factory is all-out Industrial.

    :D

But I'm glad I could clear that up for you.

  • Except for Digimortal. That's pretty nu metal, if you ask me.

  • Digimortal is also Industrial, even though the song "Back The Fuck Up" is rap [I personally don't like that song] and the song "Digimortal" is Emo.

  • It's not emo. It's just slow.

  • Ehh, I am talking about the lyrics.

  • agreed :)

  • best drummer ever!

  • Both wrong. Tomas Haake!!!

  • I think he tries to BREAK THE FUCKING KIT IN TWO

    Oo

  • I'm not a Slipknot fan but I wouldn't diss Joey's drumming skills.

  • there are so many drummers including herrera who would kill joey...

  • Er.... I don't think so.

Joey can do everything, While I love fear factory and the drum style. All Raymond can really do is navigate the double bass exceptionally well. Joey's drumkit is twice the size of this and he uses most of it in every song.

Take the double kick from the Demanufacture songs and its pretty zzzzz.... take the double kick from Slipknot's first album and you still have epic fast beats.

  • uh epic, blah fast

less is more...slipknot havent noticed that in all their carrier thats why they never will be accepted by anyone listening to good music!

  • Theres nothing remotely special about his drumming except the double kick.

If "less is more" is the only reason for it, thats fine... Joey's still better... if joey wanted to bore the shit out of himself he'd play with no arms and still do better than Raymond ;o

  • Youre so dumb and ignorant...its about playing what fits to the music...fear factory are not slipknot...you see what comes out if everybody just plays fast, gay shit...thats slipknot. But music has to fit, the day you get that, you can talk!

  • I'm so dumb and arrogant because a guy playing "what fits the music" is being dubbed better than another guy that plays "what fits the music" even though the first guy is using 10 pieces of a kit while the other is using 30?

    Your a dumb shit.

I dont doubt that he plays the music very well, and I'm not saying Joey is better cause he is faster.... He's just fucking better.. its obvious.

When everyone plays "fast gay shit" you get Cannibal Corpse or Messhuggah... not slipknot.. dimwit.

  • guys we actually are not able judge which drummer is the best in the world cause we just see the style they play in their bands.this is the style raymond plays in ff.we dont know what raymond is able to play to different kind of music....same with joey.and both of these drummers know that playing drums is about the music not about poseing how good their.if it was about poseing they would play as a solo artist

  • slipknot sucks...
