I remember when this was on, I was 13 in 1972. We barely got ABC out of NYC on our TV, the signal was weak and fuzzy where we were but I tuned in anyway. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Thanks for posting this.
The first time I saw Alice was @ Peachtree I in Rockingham N.C. 1972. I was sixteen and spending the summer with my older brother. Who was 22 and had a VW van, of course! Man, I never saw dudes with long hair like that in my young life. I still remember thinking, "Where did they grow up?". It was a pretty cool time and quite the introduction to outdoor concerts to say the least. lol
Lived in Cincy in '72 but was in Lexington KY when the show was aired and got to see it (pre VHS people). Strange, but Alice Cooper played the Cincinnati Gardens that same year. Flo and Eddie opened for them. It was great. My first big rock show.
When schools out came out I was 11 and living in Tucson,Az.. Every one of his tours through muscle of love came through there and we were fortunate enough 2 c them. My star, Halo of flies, ballod of dwight fry,and many others were so far ahead and different than what was out there. His shows were so superior to anything out there well predating kiss( not comparing). far superior to Black sabbath shows. This video brought back great memories 2 bad his view of the world has changed not evolved.
@pghpa611 Yes, a right wing republican......what a refreshing change from all those liberal cunts trying to tell us how to live and what tree to save next. I'm going to see Alice tonight!!!!!!
Alice was clearly drunk as a skunk in this concert. The band was playing tight, unfortunently he was the weakest link. This makes me sad when I see it.
i was 13 years old. just introduced to weed and alice. what a summer 1972 was. rumblin down the back roads of beaufort counyt sc in a 1971 plymouth duster with my brother at the wheel and the speedometer buried with killer tape blasting. my america was truly free and great. god help the 13 year old now.
I first saw Alice in England in 1971 on Old Grey Whistle Test, WOW he was so far out there and different that i fell in love with him the band and the music instantly. It was the angst, the same angst punk had 6 years later. I was 16 on the day Schools Out went to number one, (Britain got what Alice was first) i've seen him every tour since then (3 times the Nightmare Returns Tour). Can't wait to see him in Birmingham at NIA in October 2011. Buy his new album Welcome 2 My Nighmare it's BRILL!!!
I remember waiting up late to see this because A: it was the 1st "In Concert" and B: it had Alice...I didn't even realize that that was Alice getting beat up in the beginning...one of those bands that you like and your friends go WTF?...Teenage Lament '74 minus 2
I saw Alice a few times from '76 - '80. It might not seem shocking now buy you really have to compare him to what else was out there. His shows were huge.
Goose bumps! My god! I saw this when it was originally on TV. I recorded it on cassette, and still have it. I listened to it so many times.......I became an Alice fan big time. And to see this again gives me a loss for words. A major thing in my life. Thanks for posting.
@IThinkYouLookLarvely Actualy, my family did hapen to know someone who had a video machine way back then, .. but he worked for local television so thats why he had one.
I saw them in Pittsburgh April 1973 during their Billion Dollar Babies tour. Flo and Eddie from The Turtles were the opening act. Most other acts pale in comparison to the Alice Cooper Group.
I was at this. Sept 21. We saw Deep Purple/Fleetwood Mac and Silverhead the weekend or so before this down island at Commack Arena. 9Th grade had just begun, I was 14. Pretty safe to say this stuff formed me, turned me into the degenerate I remain ...and proudly so ...to this day!
was born in 72 at the age of sixteen was able to be in front row at the sudbury arena,I got
the chance to meet some and Alice Cooper also in Hamilton know i aim 39 still listen and support alice cooper's music ...Alice Cooper keep on rocking the world.

Can you imagine Michael Bruce and Dennis Dunaway jumping Alice from behind and putting on a stage fight like they used to in the good old days during their performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony? LOL
Back when rock -n-roll had a vision, it told a story. the pioneers that shaped the way for today, may they be remembered ! Alice Cooper, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neal young, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Allman Bro's, Queen, Heart, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Who, Nazereth, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Stevie Ray, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Santana, Bob Marley, Boston, Pink Floyd, Among so many other greats , remember paying only $6.00 a ticket for Black Sabbath my 1st concert . rock-n-roll
My 1st AC experience live was in 78', again in 87' Im from a very small N.E. TX. town and back in late 70's things I done was un heard of, I was mixed up and druged to the outter limits and beyond. I was really into AC I would paint my face and get so high I should have died so many times. Ive seen the other side !! long hair, riding motorcycles, and my dad was a cop ! that didnt go over well ! black sabbath was my 1st concert. nazereth, rolling stones, the who, eric clapton, and more.
Good to see Cooper stating he would refuse the nomination into the Hall Of Fame unless the others were inducted too. It was after all the Alice Cooper Group who made all the big albums. Well done Alice! The original group will perform again with Steve Hunter standing in for Glen Buxton, the ACG are one of the reaons we like Rock N Roll!
I was a little too young in '72 for an Alice Cooper show but I remember learning about him a few years later. Man, they don't make rock stars like this anymore.
Thanks for posting! I havent seen this since 1972 when I saw it when it originally aired. This was the first "In Concert" show and I still remember the Gutter Cat song. Fantastic. The band should be in the RR HoF.
The Coop was/is stunning---saw too many shows to remember---this footage is priceless! This was before the 'Don Kirscher' tag---I vaguely remember seeing this on TV as a drunken teenager
1972 - I was 16 and thought Alice Cooper was the most exciting, incredible creature on the planet ......I adored his band and was desperate to get to a gig. The British government, however, wanted him banned from our shores! I finally got to a show in 75, at Wembley Empire Pool. Wonderful memories, thanks, and love to all AC fans!
@coopersgirl52 That wasn't Alice Cooper's band...the five individuals you see there are "Alice Cooper"...that was the name of the band before Alice himself went solo.
@deuce1231 Yes, I have always been aware that the band was called Alice Cooper before Alice went solo. You'll have to excuse my ambiguous way of writing - when I wrote 'I adored his band' I meant the band of which he was a part! He was always known as Alice Cooper within the band. His real name, Vincent Furnier, wasn't known to the fans until a while after the band became big here in the UK. I love the fact that he is still so well loved by fans old and new.
@coopersgirl52 I'm glad to know people recognize the band as opposed it just being Vince. Of course it's not that way NOW, but it was in the beginning, and frankly, Vince wouldnt' be anywhere without Dennis, Michael, Neal and Glen (RIP). I find it appropriate the BAND is being inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, asopposed to just Vince. Now if they'd get off their high horses and induct KISS and Rush they'll earn my respect...:)
@deuce1231 Kiss - aaghh, saw them in the mid-70s and I'm afraid I wasn't impressed! (sorry, Kiss fans)Now RUSH .....absolute gods, fabulously talented, I adore them. Got tickets to see them over here on the Time Machine tour in May!
I remember when this was on, I was 13 in 1972. We barely got ABC out of NYC on our TV, the signal was weak and fuzzy where we were but I tuned in anyway. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Thanks for posting this.

It saddens me as we supported him, made him and he now is one of them
