I have this exact amp, same color, and I LOVE IT! I bought an extention cab(also red) and it rocks big time. I have 14 other amps and this one is one of my very favorite.
No, The EF86 Channel still have to inputs, the TMB Channel has only one input since the mastervoleme knob is mounted one of the to TBM inputs.
Just plug the guitar into one of the EF86 holes, and plug a cable from the othher input and into the TMB input, then both channels are supported, and both can be used at the same time.
The TMB have: Channel 1 - standard , one volume and one tone knob (as original 18 watt) Channel 2 - TMB insted of tremolo channel, and treble, middle and bass tone knobs Both channel volume knob is preamp volume, and a common mastervolume is added.
TMB EF86 have: Channel 1 - an EF86 preamp tube is added, to make the channel more like the Vox AC30 Channel 2 - TMB, same as TMB.
It's ok for taking down the volume, but it takes away some of the nice chimy tone. The 3db and 6db treble boost switch adds way to much treble, so I don't use the trebleboost.
Sometimes on the ef86 channel, when gain is on 10 (full) and the master volume is set high. If I turn the gain down to 8 it's gone. But i think this is normal with ef86 tubes.
Yes, it takes overdrive and distortion pedals very well, and also takes signal boosts and compression pedals very well. With out pedals, the amp take you from overdrive to clean by using guitar volume even at high gain settings.
It's not loud compared to the jcm800 50 watt. The 18 watt is really thin sounding at low mastervolume settings, but as you crank it, it gets fatter. At high mastervolume settings it produces a really fat tone, but at that point it's way to loud for my wife;-) That's why I use a speaker attenauer...
Hi, I have never had the pleasure to play or hear the regular 18 watt marshall circuit, so I really don't know how it compears. But the vox channel clean sound is very complex sounding, very rich and chimy highs in a good way, gives good sustain at clean playing. It cleans up very good rolling back guitarvolume, its very dymamic. But there is not much bottom/bass, compared to larger amps.
There is also a half power switch so it can be runned at 9 watt, feels like its get a slight more compressed sound, but it'll get powertube saturation at lower volume.
Both speakers are Celestion G12H 30watts. I like the lollars, they are low output pickups and gives a smoother drive, they feels fatter then the stock hot 498t. Less buzzy i think:-)
The amp is stock, but the cabinet is homemade. I have a speaker attenauer (weber minimass50) between the amp and speakers to take down the volume, but it also takes away the nice sparkle sound the amp produce.

It's ok for taking down the volume, but it takes away some of the nice chimy tone. The 3db and 6db treble boost switch adds way to much treble, so I don't use the trebleboost.
Anyway it's a decent attenauer for 100$.

since you are running a combo, do you face any microphonic problem with the tube so far?

how loud is this amp? its only 18 watts and has 2 el84s i couldnt imagine it'd be absurdly loud

EL84, 12ax7 and Ez81 is JJ's
