Ms Innocent is right, it's a classical case of "mission creep". Instead of listening to the generals, Obama should have done what she has done and rethink the original question of "What are we here to do?" which can be accomplished with less, not more, people. In my opinion you will never see a fully functioning centralized government in Afghanistan.
The big problems with these recent military efforts are the high bar they set for victory. Eliminate the initial threat, set up bases for future regional challenges, provide basic security in their vicinities and let the people of the region set up something on their own. Our footprint is minimized, but our position is secure. We don't need to set up their clothes for them to get dressed every morning.
our objective when we first went there after 9/11 was to take out the Taliban govt, which is what we accomplished. There isnt a signficant threat left there, so why are we still there, what is the new objective?

First, the BBC is way better than CNN or Fox because at least they allow the speaker to make their point.
Second, Malou did an exceptional job of stating her point and dispelling the silly notions expressed by the opposing war monger.

So a corrupt US gov and a corrupt UK gov are expected to clean up a corrupt Afghan gov? This doesnt seem like a military problem.

Heh good point. The trouble is, perhaps, that corrupt government is in itself a redundancy.

I think the BCC should be renamed the Comedy Channel 2
ALL war is a racket. Get out, get out now.
The Brits and Yanks are there simply to plunge the Empires into the ground.

Those were some vague arguments for. . .
