@teresajo07 He can sing it because he sings it all the time, he prob got use to it, i listen to it all the time and hit the point of no tears even thou it is so sad...
I cry when I hear this song, the words mean so much because many of my extended family and friends have served/are serving, including one of my brothers, and my mom was so relieved when he came home safe.
My sister made me listen to this song. She figured that if I like 'Traveling Soldier' then I'd love this. She was right, of coarse. Now I love it. It makes me think of my grandpa who fought in Vietnam.
I heard this in 7th grade and instantly fell in love with this song! My 7th grade English teacher once when she taught elementary school made a picture book and send it out to him, and I can still remember crying when reading this...... Her husband once was in the Navy and same with my dad so this song means a lot to us that somebody cares about our nations protecters. every time i hear this song I cry.......
i've been looking for this song since the first (and last) time i heard it years ago. i was in the army and missed my chance to serve overseas . God bless our troops. thank you mark
My beautiful 19y/o a US Marine sent this song to me. Is all I can do is cry! My first born, the love of my life. I'm so proud of you son. So selfless and doing what you think is right. Not many people with that character these days. And to think I had something to do with this young man. A true blessing in my life. Bring him home. Semper Fi ~ Marine Mom
i am 14 and my amazing boyfriend is in basics right now and this song made me cry but it dont have as big as an impact as it does to a veteran , i just got a letter from him and it made me smile caz i havent tlked to him in a long time and it made me smile cry and i had so many emotions but this song i love it
@crosscountry2015 You're 14 and your dating someone who's old enough to join the Army... so he's at least 18. Honey, that's not a relationship, that's called baby sitting.
im an 18 year old enlisted in the army, im leaveing for basic in the fall, i dont have the expeince to say this song touched me like it has members of the Armed Forces, but i was there when my aunt was told her sons were killed in an IED explosion i saw her pain and suffering, it forced her to take her own life. thank you for this song, i wish she could have heard it
@foryou8449 You'll get a Bible from the Gideons. Keep it, Read it, and Meditate on it. Keep your head down and your spirits up! God will watch your back.
we sang this every sunday in basic...we all cried then, and it got a little worse through the years. unfortunately, not every mother gets to hold their child upon return....it takes seconds to say a short prayer for the safe return of the men and women serving, and for the families of those lost...is a prayer worth a good night's sleep to you?
My boyfriend is in Baghdad right now, this makes me cry every time I hear it.. :( I think I've heard it about 20+ times now, and still just cried like a baby... Only 2 more months though :)
they used to play this song every sunday during church service when we were at basic training and there wouldnt be a dry eye in the building i love this song
Our son just started Week 4 at Lackland AFB. He told us to watch this video and I've been boo-hooing ever since. We are so proud of him and his willingness to serve our country during this time of unrest. We need to lift up all our men and women in the Armed Forces in prayer and be thankful for their service and sacrifice. What a special group of young people they are! May God keep them safe.
From what im told...Mark Schultz use to sneak into the music dept. at K-State to work on his piano skills. Im glad that he did. We sang alot of his songs at Butler under Valorie Mack!!
@Kev91S Hell ya you are, I can almost guarantee you'll cry every time too, at least for the first 4 weeks or so. Have fun at BMT, MAke what you can out of it too. I had a blast after everybody stopped trying to be individuals
My son is currently at Parris Island, SC in his forth week of Marine Corps bootcamp. He wrote to me and asked that I listen to this song and think of him. The song has been played to him during his training and it meant alot to him. God bless our troops and the families that support them. Please remember that freedom isn't free!
@EveningCrow Yea, they do. I remember when we used to sound off every sunday we went to church to say what week we were in. I remember when I first heard this song I cried. This and to letters from home.
No. The Mom thought that the captain that stepped out from the car was going to tell her that her son had died. But the captain was really her son coming home from war. Isn't that touching?
i love this song:)
