who could have predicted that these guys would become THE BEATLES!! ..i hope that some young guys out there look at this and get inspired to go on to great things......you start with an acorn and finish with an oak tree........
p0llenp0ny....This version of the song has been well-documented in most Beatle biographies as being from the Home recordings made in 1960. Are you just voicing an opinion? What do you know that countless Writers and researchers don't?

This CD will be going up for sale on eBay shortly. Anyone who is interested in perhaps watching or purchasing this album please email me for the eBay link.
@brotherbuttcrack the drummer is mikemccartney i think, says so in the from cavern to starclub butis befor beatles wereformed as petejoined in august the song was however written in 1959 as an homage to buddy holly
probably recorded on a tape recorder in pauls house in 1960 the quality is not great but then again this aint no studio recording its just a jam... excellent
for all those who say it is not Paul, have no idea! I think Paul (and John for that matter) has a voice that stands out and no one can get even close to sounding like him. (or them)
I have heard a few of these tracks from those May of 1960 rehearsals. I wish i could have a complete album of these recordings because thats when the Beatles were Rockabilly...
I have the complete album, if anyone wants copies just email me. Not that I'm trying to start up some black market selling rare Beatle stuff etc etc etc. :-)
It was recorded on the Hodgson family Grundig reel to reel tape recorder.
Pleaase see my Paul McCartney The Fireman song on my channel, Paul is a friend of my father's, I had the great pleasure of spending a day with Paul at his home recording studio in East Sussex in March 1995 !!! It was my father and uncle's reel to reel tape recorder that these recordings were made on.
I don't know who the singer is, but it isn't Paul McCartney. And there's a basic harmonic incompetence in the chordal structure that disqualifies it from being Beatles at all. It sounds like something recorded in someone's kitchen last week.
You must be such an expert! Sorry m8 but this is the Beatles. Try purchasing the Anthology set and listening to disk 1 and then you may have the experience to quote on which is and which is not.
I don't think it's the Beatles either. It's just too crude and clumsy. If it is them, they must have improved more in the next couple of years than I'd think was possible. I know this is on an anthology of their early stuff, but I still think it's fake.
Why do people like p0llenp0ny comment on subjects they obviously don't know the first thing about? This was taken from a CD that has many old recordings by the Beatles before they got famous... Ignorance is so frustrating at times...
I purchased it in Greenwich Market SE10 London a while back. I noticed it's pretty much unavaliable anywhere on the net or in stores so I thought Youtube would be the place to show it off. lol
Yeah, the CD I have has 13 songs, all recorded in May 1960 at Paul's house. Believe me they are all poor recordings but still it's amazing to hear them. Little did they know when they recorded these songs on their 4 track tape recorder back then that one day they would be the biggest rock n roll band in the world.
Yeah your right FabFM, I don't own the master copy. This song came from an album which in it's own right is quite rare now of which I purchased in Greenwich market years ago. There are a lot of tracks on it which I am thinking about uploading onto youtube but the quality is nowhere near as good as this track. Plus I edited this track to make it clearer. Anyhow, hope you all enjoy listening to the echoes of history.
Sounds real to me - that's Paul's "early" voice, and the song is enough unlike the 1964 version for it to seem authentic. How many more gems are out there?
fake.

Taped on a Grundig recorder at 20 Forthlin Road (Paul's house), Liverpool in around July '60.

I wonder if thats stu sutcliffe on drums, come to think of it sounds more like peter sutcliffe.
quite amusing to imagine paul still getting junk mail at his old house
racistgayclown 2 years ago
Sounds like somebody's "drumming" on a suitcase or washbasin or some such object.
It's silly to say they're terrible, it's a crap amateur recording of a song they completely rearranged later on.
Thanks for posting this, I didn't know this existed.

Compare this to their later LP recording version and note the under-appreciated role of George Martin.
BenBarfuss 2 years ago
Definitely the early Beatles singing and playing - pre Hamburg I would guess, as it was their stints in Germany that turned them into solid rockers.

You have to remember how young they were when they recorded this onto a "TAPE RECORDER." They were only kids...
ziggystarter 3 years ago
Yes, they did do a good job of getting it to sound like the early Beatle tracks featured on Anthology 1, but that's all this is. A soundalike.
