  • we are a singing this song in choir!

  • God,i haven't seen anything from this show since it was originally aired!!!...takes me back ,especially the opening titles.

  • only trouble is lene is no longer with us RIP lene

  • @Soul3Ian - LENA...not LENE

  • she is wonderful

    r.i.p

  • Thank you for posting this. She was a great talent. Cute and what a great voice. Better than anyone who is singing now.

  • This makes for very uncomfortable viewing for a number of reasons.

First, there is the bizarre yellow bird sitting satanically among the young audience.

Second, there is the unbelievably camp young Glyn Poole (how did I fail to register this when I was about 11?).

But most disturbing is poor Lena herself. Her performance is that of a brilliantly gifted 40-year-old woman - Marti Caine, say - not a 10- or 11-year-old child. There is also a hint of the chubbiness that drove her to diet.

  • @JekyllBoote

    I totally agree with you.

    Jennie.

  • I was lucky enough to work on this show as a kid, along with Mark Curry,Lena,Bobby Bennett,Terry Divine,Billy Pearce and his wonderfull Mum......Great days !

  • Dont forget Glyn Poole and his sisters and brothers ,,

Went to the primary school opposite YTV we where asked many a time to come to see Juinor Showtime if i remember right it was filmed at the Leeds City Varieties

  • bloody hell how old am i!!, she had the x factor!!

  • i remember lena fondly about the same age...just makes you think....if?

  • NEWS: MINNIE RIPPERTON & RICHARD RUDOLPH COVERED LOVING YOU....

More details GOOGLE: Thomas J Mitchell Loving You (1971)

  • good job sweetie. How old is this one? I was looking for Mini Pops version my daughter sings this in choir now. Its a fabulous song!!

  • i think I prefered her when she was older. This is just crazy jazz handed stage school ,over the top..bluurgh

  • I remember similar performances that she did here in the USA, one show was called Wonderama with Bob McAlllistar. That is how I learnd of her. Also on the Mike Douglas Show.

Watching this, made me chuckle with all due respect, this performance reminds me of young Baby Jane Hudson featuring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Or Dainty June from the musical Gypsy. Although we all know that Lena was not evil like those characters. Rest in Peace sweet girl.

  • This really summed it all up. I recalled this show with Glyn Poole and Bobby Bennett, and even cringing then, as a child. I often imagined all the 'pushy' parents waiting in the wings, constantly thrusting their own children forward to make up for their own, sad failures. It really was a lousy show. For Lena Zavaroni, the instant fame became the true, poison chalice. She died before even reaching 36. Today we have 'the X Factor'. So, it seems no one has ever learned. Revolting!

  • I use to watch this show when I was little.

  • my school choir did dis song

  • I' love to have seen swing on the end of a rope!

  • you are a super starr!!

  • what amazing talent.

  • Langfords my last name! lol

  • my uncle worked with Lena Zavaroni on this programme :)

  • and got better around 14 or 15 but sadly after 17 the anorexia destroyed her voice and her life.Too sad.

  • She was good considering her age actually

  • She was a good singer for a child but she should have been entitled to a private child hood and been trained in the singing and the career should have started at 18 years of age.

  • yes..i do think she wouldn't have had annorexia if she didnt start her career so early..however she was much cuter when she was young and what do you do with such a talented 9 or 10 year old ;)

  • A talented 9 or 10 year old could join the local musical society group either in her own home town or the next nearest one to practise for a future career.

Also she was good-looking when she was older when not skin an bone.

  • gawd, i hated this show.

  • Lol at the show!

    WOW at the voice!

  • wow!she sounds like a twenty yar old woman!!!!!

  • 20 is barely a woman.

  • An amazing talent; vocal and overall presence and message. Losing her was a true tragedy...

  • I think Lena Zavaroni was really really good and no wonder she has so many fans and she diserved her fame.[Georgia,Age9]

  • Whatever happened to Glyn Poole???

  • Indeed what did happen to Glyn Poole and the rest of his family. Do you remember Diane Mewse and her Magic Theatre also?

  • Good

  • my cat loves lena's voice! :D

  • then your cat has a better taste than a lot of human beings

  • lol ya! :)

  • The style is a bit over the top, but she certainly had quite a voice.

  • 'quite'

for a kid her age, she was (and always will be) amazing.

  • HAHA, i know exactly what you mean. not in a bad way, of course...it's just that her performance is rather...FABulous.

    either way, she's amazing.

  • omg shes so cutttttttttttttttttte

  • soooooooooooooo cuite

  • she's cute

  • I used to get mum to do my hair like this.

  • who is the presenter? is he still in show biz?

  • I would imagine that present is either now an assistant manager at his local Tesco's or working as a binman

  • lena is my cousin she lived in rothesay isle of bute and did not die of depression it was anorexia .. rip big cus lots of love georgia x

  • Hello Georgia,

I have always followed Lena`s career. My father took me to my first ever concert in Bridlington. I begged him to take me to see Lena, I remember Cannon and Ball supporting her. It was so good, I still can see her. Indeed RIP for a talent that shone amazingly for too short a time. x

  • Reminds me of the old school kid singers from the 30's.....Shirley Temple, Baby Gumm (Judy Garland), etc.

  • Hello what a great channel on You Tube. I don't know where you got all your clips from but I used to run the first ever web site on Lena but I never had enough material to go on it so I gave up with it. Fascinating watching your clips, well done!

  • WoW

    her voice is so ah-mazing!

    so cute =]

i just heard about her..and man does she got a voice!...i wish i could sing like that...

    quick question...how did she die???

  • Lena went into hospital to undergo neurosurgery. The "University Hospital Of Cardiff" agreed to give Lena a Leucotomy. This is a controversial operation only carried out in extreme cases of depression. The operation involves inserting a probe into the brain to sever nerve pathways that control emotion. After the operation Lena sadly contracted pneumonia and died at 35.

  • oi girl eat something, it might just help

  • Very witty! Maybe you should get up on a stage with your comedy routine? You can explain your lack of "tense" and sense; but also issue invitations for your eleventh birthday party.

    Rgds HD

  • Well my 11 birthday will be fun as lena is coming for cake and jelly, lindsey de paul is making balloon animals, gilbert o sullivan is bring some girl called claire and and bonnie langford will be freaking out on her melotron

  • Thanks for sharing this Lena video. Never saw this one in Canada before!

  • Oh...my...god!! This kid is fantastic!!

  • Neil Reid sang Mother Of Mine. He was also on Opportunity Knocks.

  • bobby bennet was the last one!

  • Bobby Bennett from memory was on at the same time as Glyn Poole...think he looked after all the kids on there...from the early days...

  • ´´bobby bennett says he keeps eye on us!but all he does is keep it on the girls´´

that was how the lyrics went or something?

  • That boy who presented this is called Glyn Poole...I think Mark Curry was in later series and then progressed to being a presenter on Blue Peter...Lena was Fabulous and a rare unique talent sadly missed..

  • Was he referred to as "little Glyn"? And did he have a hit with "Mother Of Mine"?

Tell me I didn't imagine all of this as a 7 year old!

  • I seem to have found some of my own answers, Glyn had a hit with "Milly Molly Mandy" - but I'm sure "Mother of Mine " was connected to this show, may another child singer called "Neil" ??

  • Neil Reid

  • Thankyou SO much!

  • Neil Reid, 1972 - he actually appeared on Opportunity Knocks.

  • The mist is thinning!! Of course it was Opportunity Knocks . Many thanks

  • Time flies live it to the upmost

  • god that took me back, i remember watching junior showtime. what was the name of the lad who introduced it?

  • I think he's called Mark Curry. I know he went on to become an adult presenter.

  • great lena videos

  • Thanks again.

You're going great guns here.....please keep them coming.
