I have to say I agree with the message in general even though not with all the lyrics in specifics. But I can see his point about colonies which is countries going into some other place to impose their way of life (or try to do so) - especially if they were doing it in the name of the LORD. To change things and make this world a better place we have to stand together and help those who need it. I don't like England much either (but purely in sports terms - don't mind the people.

He's just saying how hard colonisers made life in Ireland was basically and how the Irish were still persecuted and removed from their own land. It's pretty much saying that colonies aren't good, because the natives to the colonised land feel the brunt of it.

@GodofCider I do sometimes when I think about Scotland's Anti-Irish past. 30,000 people signed a proposal to have the Irish deported back home at the turn of the century. Nationalism is a ludicrous concept anyway. But I think we hold a certain responsibilty as we do inherit our stance in the world as a nation. Just because we didn't play apart in the colonial days of Imperilist Brittania, we still have our part to play and "Find out who's to blame" and rectify some of the damage.

I'm born and bred Irish but I should never have to feel answerable for everything that was done in the name of Ireland. I can think for myself and criticise when necessary. Patriotism is a ridiculous concept anyway and was traditionally a tool used by the ruling classes to brainwash the masses into fighting their wars for them.
