  • Loved this back then as a kid, love it now.Beautiful, timeless classic!

  • it seems Gordon put much thinking into this album. such a different set of tunes which all are top notch. when I listen to this tune I think of 1978/79 all over again. It helped me chase my dreams and such and meet my goals at that time

  • Love this-bought the LP when it first came out.....! Am waiting for someone to post the Studio version of "Shadows",as well.......

  • gorgeous little song

  • nice

  • This was released in 1978.

But I cannot forget listening to this song when I was 4 years old in 1980. This song played on the radio many times. Great childhood memories.

  • i always loved the "tap" on the guitar between

  • Memories of an old flame, way back in 78, the embers still alight Diane xx

  • Absolute cracker !

Well you don't expect a bad track from Gordon Lightfoot !

  • What a way to start an album.

  • Awesome!!!! Been waiting for this to appear sometime!!!!

  • himself and david mc williams.....the two singer songwriters i like best

  • Another great story from Gordon, man he is a Canadian icon for sure.

  • one of my favs

  • Thank you for posting this. I love it & have been looking for it here for awhile. My Dad was a big GL fan & he used to sing us kids to sleep with Daylight Katy & Knotty Pine among others. Always feels good to hear Gordon. Miss you Dad.....

  • lyrically stunning, with that dreamy melody ..Lightfoot is SO under-rated

  • MC Pitman rips the beginning of this track and with a heavy beat, sounds incredible. 'Great Day' MC Pitman. I can't find it on Youtube, but it's on Itunes.

  • Wishing to find "bells of the evening" and "fine as fine could be". Gord is the the best. Notice that not many people cover his songs? They can't, he's the one and only.

  • brilliant song.. thanks for uploading

  • Glad you have posted this, I have waited so long :-) thank you x

  • @aneil68 Gordons great. live in montana but all our am stations were out of regina or moose jaw and i love all gordons songs seen him at the center of the arts in regina if your scalp dont tingle when you hear the edmund then oh well i guess you just dont get it

  • one of Gordons best..thanx chissy

  • This brings back memories of my first job, at the age of 16 years. I had to start work at 07-30, after a two mile walk to the foundry. If I remember correctly Radio One (Which I liked in those days) only started at 08-00 so I had to listen to Radio Two.

This song came on, most mornings, and I used to sing along as I had a hurried breakfast. Great memories...

  • When I was a wee one, I thought the chorus was "pretty white kitty, come on".

This son makes me think of rainy days for some reason...

  • @DropPodFullOfPonies And I once thought it was "Mainline Katy"

  • great song

  • brilliant

  • Haven't heard this for over 30 years! Better than I thought! Listening again just proves the music of today sucks! Bands and artists are blown out of proportion and have no stuffing! Thanks for posting! Enjoyed it to the full!

  • Thank you! Another one of my favorites!!!!

  • me too. each time typed it in nothing showed. enjoyed listening

  • I have been waiting a long time to hear this thankyou for poting

  • At last, thanks for posting this one, have tried in vain myself in the past. Many great tracks on your profile thank YOU, Steve :-)

  • A great song from the most underrated singer/songwriter in the history of contemporary music - incredibly,I have heard him referred to in derisory terms on more than one occasion by morons who probably think Michael Buble is talented. Maybe he suffers from having an ordinary-sounding name? But when you can write songs as good as this why bother changing your name to Beowulf Buffalobollox just to grab a few extra sales.

  • such a great song, means a lot to me thanks for posting

  • they dont make them like this anymore, brilliant, thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting. This is Gord at his best.

  • chissykim - this is great thanks. my favourite gordon lightfoot song by far

  • thanks so much ....this songs triggers so many memories of being a daydreaming teenager in the 70's..... classic song should be played on airwaves more often...

  • thanks...been looking for this for quite a while

  • great song...thanks to whoever posted this.....

  • One of Gordon's best songs. Thanks for putting it back on YouTube.

  • The various versions of 'if you could read my mind' have millions of views, but this has 269 - odd!

  • @scampben Gordon is not a hit singles artist. While I do like the songs that became hits, there are so many tracks on his recordings that I like even more, like this one!
