  • You know what they say right. The American dream is like any dream you have to be asleep to believe it.Well the California dream is different, you have to be on drugs to believe it.Bankrupt, education going down the drain, homeless people starting to appear everywhere in SoCal(once middle class)Hoards of illegal aliens turning Cali into Mexico.Anyone still dreaming the California dream has to be dead by now.

  • Thank you for making this avaiable to watch on YouTube

  • California is bankrupt. even if they cut the budget (Austerity measures), they cannot pay the debt they owe, include the expensive pensions they promised their people, while they knew it was a Dream story. Folks, the money is gone. Pensions will be paid, but what will be the value of that money? answer is simple..it will be less. It's not about how much money you have in your hands, you need to understand how much it's worth.

  • America: Work as hard as you can for the system as long as you can. After that, go live out on the streets in your car.

  • no matter how poor the cities, county or state is

THEY always have money to pay PENSIONS

  • I wonder how walmart is doing in california.

  • come to New Zealand

  • This isn't educational, this is just a human interest story.

  • It doesn't involve,it doesn't even involve resources that much.It involves education and being able to maintain a sustainable society.

If we end up paying through our nose for pensions, which mean we can't hire more civil servants because the ones retired cost us whatever money we had left to recruit more.

Then our society dies a bit more, you can stack all the money on retirees and kick out the illegals living in some areas. It will not improve their quality of life or their community.

  • Bicycle freeways, interesting idea.

  • @iamspid3rman : I thought the architect's piece was the most interesting - rather than just capturing the devastation the recession has wrought, it's important to focus on the ideas of the next economic cycle that will shape our future. Part of the restructuring that will happen will definitely involve new forms of sustainable infrastructure, greater environmental focus in investment and consumption due to oil prices, and unfortunately greater class divides than we see today.

  • @USAdude30 lol, i mean the California population is like half latino.

  • @USAdude30 CAlifornia is Mexico lol

  • Secession! It will bring CAlifornia from rags to riches!

  • Yes it is sad...It made me think how I can help or how I can save my environment/community....and ultimately that was lesson " How do we change"

    I really liked it...

  • i hate to say it but this, or worse, is the future for many people in america. the country is broke and there is no 'next' industry or even bubble to fire things up. if the politicians had the strength to stand up to the oil and military industries years ago, not only would they have avoided the conflicts in the middle east over oil ( and maybe 911 as well ), after the oil crisis in the 70s there was an opportunity to become innovators of green technologies and energy but it was sadly missed.

  • CORPORATION NATION, the movie, proves the 'state' is not broke.

no city state or federal institution is broke, C.A.F.R.'s show hidden assets at huge reserves. don't believe the hype !!! watch the movie. look up your city's cafr.

money is created by law, not nature.

  • La faute de Vanessa tout ça

  • That woman was spot on at 42:49. It'll take time though.

  • hello,

This is a great article and a great website. I liked it very much. It will help me to optimize my websites in Europe.

    thanks

  • Wow the education system has done its job - amazing how folk are almost apologetic for being abused by the system – its no ones fault are they mad? This is built into the system the majority of the people give the rich their power while they shit over everyone else - Jesus the American dream eh, it seems ECT might a good option to wake folk up to the slavery we all endure.

  • txh for the doc.

  • If the government is taking your tax dollars and giving it to illegal immigrants

then who is to blame? The aliens who accept a free lunch or your government who's giving your tax dollars away?

This video is propagating an old racist trick based off ignorance.

The corporations do as they please. They hire illegals to do local jobs and outsource the rest. Everything you own is made in another country i.e. Ford & Dickeys brands etc.

  • Refuse to buy Coca-Cola & Hewlett Packard until these Corporations hiring illegals are held accountable and force to pay fines.

Like the ignorant monkeys you are, they're brainwashing you into thinking the issue is about race and boarders.

It's about economic policy and accountability.

  • this is so fucking sad that it isnt even funny, i have some college, 10 years experience and i cant get crap, not even day labor, its bullshit

  • What a beautiful portrait of such an ugly situation. Great documentary.

  • move the f out of cali

  • Illegal alien children = $600 billion a year for LA County.

Illegal aliens total = $1.5 billion a year for LA County.

Until you have the courage to stand up and state the truth, civil servants will be thrown to the curb.

    It's getting worse every year.

Stand up and make the federal government enforce the law and stop the illegal alien takeover.

    Fools...

  • The right wing spends billions in illegal wars and the left wings spends billions on welfare paying bums not to work. Not to mention neither party does anything about the fucking border to stop the influx of "undocumented" from coming in.

  • Cali is a perfect example of what will happen if liberals run the whole country.

  • Her talk at around 9 minutes is really disgusting.

  • That Cal piers pension plan will go one way are the other.

  • Absolutely stunning. As a former resident of California who was laid off - AND as a documentary film student who watches many, I can say that I haven't seen a film in a very long time that has touched me in such a personal way. Thank you so much for making it.

  • Phoenix Arizona is not a half bad place to be when yer unemployed and living on the cheap. I can get delicious and filling hot dogs, you make em yerself , over at the QuikTrip, for $1 each. And a refill 44oz drink for 80 cent. An entire meal for $3.05. Before I got my yob a month ago, I HAD to live on $3.05 a day. Or $6 a day if I wanted to eet the same thing twice a day, which is okay by me sometimes.

  • I LOVE my city, Los Angeles California. I maintain my love for Southern California as I watch this documentary.

  • Republicans and Democrats, two head, ONE party system; filled with corporatists.

  • Don't worry the U.P.U has found a way to stop you having homegrown natural food and thats the S510 food bill they put through the other day. Kiss goodbye shortly to being able to do this and guess who'll police you? Your neighbours ratting on you like STASI to the the Department of Romeland Security riddled with Nazis from the Deutsche Verteidigungs Dienst. Welcome the the new World poverty in the Post Industrial Zero Growth Society.

  • The the daddy of the commercial jail, the Universal Postal Union in Berne, Switzerland. Many blame the Federal Reserve, IMF and Bank of International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland. Tell me something, how many of you have heard of the U.P.U?

  • Thank you for great video and world compart we shall overcome!!!!!!!!!

  • Cont'd.....

And thats why you cant even go into Saudi Arabia, unless you are a muslim.

And ANY eastern countries will make your stay uncomfortable, if you even go there. And dangerous.

So, as the jews infested the west, and robbed us, and stole power in our lands, now it is the muslims and all sorts of people who dont want to see the west prosper.

This is NOT gonna go away, unless you wake up to the fact, that we are UNDER ATTACK form the east (and the East is WINNING) !

  • For decades we have eaten california oranges and food, in the UK.

But to be honest, people would rather buy from elswhere, now, for 2 reasons:

    1. we dont liek what the americans in new york and washington are doing around the wolrd.

    2. The UK is now full of foreigners, and they WONT buy american products (or btiish), because they want to bankrupt america and britian.

Not all terrorists, carry bombs - they just take over a certain % of our population, then refuse to do ANYTHING beneficial

  • how interesting it is that this film shows the white americans and being down and out, yet it shows the americans (supposedly) with other nationality influences in them (the spanish guy in from jail and the japanese woman) as making it even if its struggling.

very interesting (good news for me being jamaican)

39:39 hold up is she the bitch from zeitgeist who is trying to build some atlantis with jacues fresco

  • here is an idea, encourage illegal aliens to move there, then piss and moan when rational people say 'we cant afford them"......0H wait, already done that. How is that working out?....Stupid liberals....

  • @krew666666:

You shoudl check out "adolf hitler" (of course, you dont want to be called a nazi, cus thats like being satan, or something, so you probably wont do that).

But if you did, you would see that the nazis were fighting (or so they thought) against a JEWISH plot, to overthrow the entire west, by means of BANKRUPTING US WITH ITNERNATIONAL BANKING SCAMS, and by MULITICULTURALSIM (infesting us with burdonesome foreigners, to bleed us dry).

But you CANT read hitler, cus then you are nazi

  • Very informative and moving documentary, thank you for sharing!

Contrary to the last woman's claims of Americans as being 'accepting to change' I think that it is difficult to change people's mindsets without a complete rework of the system, and informative tools to make people aware of the effects of consumerist ideologies. That being said I am optimistic about the possibility of pragmatic change in the future!

  • WOW! This film is very powerful this is exactly what is happening in California, theres going to have to be a serious paradigm shift.

  • U.S has always caused so many problem to itself and to the whole world. Take this war for example, most of the Americans don't even know the reality of so called "war on terror" and if few know, then they won't fucking listen to those guys. I would call Govt. and nation dumb and devil.

  • America is finished. The elite have raped your country for all it is worth and left you impoverished peasants. Americans were to busy watching american idol and monday night football to realise that this is all being done by design. America was started by the rulers of the world as a great experiment.............the experiment is now over.

  • The elephant in the room is that capitalism has run its course and the world is becoming too overcrowded. The US, Canada and Australia have a lot more breathing room than most other countries due to their vast size and abundant natural resources. China may look like its doing well now, but China is running out of fresh water.

  • 2010 American air is smelling a lot like 1931 German air, soon enough mexicans will start smelling like jews. some real bad shit is coming down the tube!! we better brace, and brace hard!!

  • @vikingbeaner : unfortunately i'll have to agree with you on this one. And the problem is not just in america. Europe too.

  • At about 16:40 till about 17:10 some comments are made about immigrants salaries and also being able to speak spanish to qualify for some jobs.

In some ways I could say the the public school system where I grew up was preparing the students for something like this because Spanish was a required course in junior high school (7th and 8th grade).

  • Climate helps. Californian sunshine close to Mediterranean ...

Laura & Mizuko seem best mentally prepared. Both have vision & a plan.

LA and other cities certainly need to re think their dependence on cars and the petro-dollar, petro-chemically driven energy "system" that has shaped the World's cites in the last 150 years.

  • We need to operate under a socialist gift economy in directly democratic communes. We need Communism.

  • I think they have the most corrupt legal system on earth! Especially LA!

Tom Sneddon LACDA is a CROOK!!

  • Also those "self sufficient" people still need to depend on the crappy health care system. The whole banking and health care system needs to be revised.

  • This is one baby step in the right direction...but there does have to be recognition about how many private prisons make money off the 3 strike law. There has to be more recognition on the corrupt banking system and something needs to be done. Self-sufficiency is only one baby is step in the right direction.

  • The numbers don't work. Naive! Check out Georgia Guide Stones for realism. I've flown across this country and seen that we have left little room for any other life forms, other than those that serve us, think corn. What selfish creatures we are. There shall soon be far fewer of us.

  • Very well done 5/5

  • california public pensions are the problem

  • viva la aztlan!

  • @1RoaringMonk ya good luck with that

  • @1RoaringMonk There is one big chunk of the problem. Kick out the illegals and LA would be paradise again.

  • @Vagabonden123 you're clearly an idiot

  • @Vagabonden123 What you forget is that California used to belong to the Mexican people. Until the US decided to annex the land and deport the people.

Now that you know that, who are the illegals?

  • @DemiGuru You're right, but what you fail to mention which isn't mentioned is that the people of Mexico wanted to secede from Mexico and joined the United States which allowed America to Annex those territories. Not many history books speak on it for obvious reasons and if went to public school, they didn't teach that either which is a shame. So many people are brainwashed in our society and it's a losing battle.

  • the softness and goodwill of the average american going through this, the ability to just smile through the apocalypse, is the only reason that open riot and and desperation hasnt already paralyzed this once great nation.

the more you take, the more you'll lose.

  • Great vide man!

  • 1 MILLION pounds of Food on 3 acres. 10,000 fish 500 yards compost

    watch?v=jV9CCxdkOng

  • This "Crisis" is a totally controlled and manufactured one.

How does that make you feel? The power elites with kids like Paris Hilton are manipulating your lives right now. And they enjoy watching you writhe in pain.

They gain pleasure from your suffering.

  • good documentary to start but should have stuck with the ecomony and stayed out of the tatoo and criminal bs.

  • ...Join the army!

  • great video, a lot of truth

  • And the GOP is pushing to cut programs for the needy at the same time they want to give $700 BIllion in tax cuts to the richest 2%.

  • they do get foodstaps, so why did RV family feed garbage to their children?

  • Meanwhile, those at the very top of the income scale are doing better than ever. The average wage of those making over $50 million was $518.8 million in 2009.

  • Great cinematography and nice handling of the subject, without paternalising or melodrama

  • I am 35. I Choose " NOT " to have a Child or a Wife yet. Was a Professional Chef for 14 Years. When the Crash Happened, I went back to College for L.P.N & R.N. I am doing well. I rive a 2005 car, I take care of that car " Like Gold ". I paid off all my bills, not until I save up a certain amount, I will not have a personal family. This is my personal " Sacrifice ". Maybe when I am 45, I can live.

  • @ART1975CZ I Live at Work, College,Gym Workouts. Re-Organized my Wardrobe to Formal &Informal. Take Great Care of my Clothes. I need them, yet I look Very Formal. Takes Extreme Discipline.

  • @ART1975CZ But, in the End. I Plan to be a Winner !

  • @ART1975CZ I also Eat, "VERY HEALTHLY "

  • @ART1975CZ Wait a Minute .....Sorry

He is an Electriction , Right ? Why can't he fix the Fridge and the Heater in the R.V.

I was a Chef, and I can fix that ! WTF

  • @ART1975CZ Would not even cost that much !

  • @ART1975CZ Am I " Mean " for saying they should have waited to have kids, at least till the $ was better !

  • @ART1975CZ I Live i a Small Place. But, least it has a roof with Heat & Hot Water ! LOL

  • @ART1975CZ Thats Story, see you all in 2020 !

  • @ART1975CZ He's prolly only an Apprentice Level Electrician. Maybe he did not get around to fixing something different than house wiring and he can't work in tight spaces like an RV. Or Caravan , as they call'em in the UK.

  • @ART1975CZ or maybe when yer 45, yer nads won't be vital anymore. bWAAAahahaha, just ribbing you. Yer on the right track. Too many people having kidz they're not financially prepared for.

  • There is a reason it's called "The American Dream", because you have to be asleep to believe it - George Carlin

  • awsome work from vpro, this is why i`m a member of vpro

  • I'm so thankful I don't have to endure a night living in such conditions.

    I feel for these people.

  • Richest country in the world...

    Something is seriously messed up.

  • The family living in Santa Barbara out of their RV need to make better decisions. Foremost, Santa Barbara is an expensive town to reside in, arguably in the upper crest of California lifestyle - as well as being a small town hence limited opportunities. Why stay there if they are struggling? As a Californian myself, I know there are much cheaper areas to settle in that have an agriculture and oil industry respectively to fall on. The Central Valley for one, Bakersfield and Fresno.

  • @J25x Santa Barbara is expensive because of housing cost. Living in an RV is the same cost anyplace. However, I notice many of these people have tatoos and I don't know where they get the money for that.

  • @J25x I read your comment on he " RV " Family. Please read my comments. I choose NOT to become this man in the video.

The other Guys in the Video were very cool, with the Fruit.

  • they ,should move to Canada while they can !!!!!

  • @napalmcoffee Not much here in Canada. Whatever happens in the USA effects us here too. No housing bubble bursting but houses are out of reach in price for people making an honest living. Wages have dropped and most good paying jobs have gone over seas.

  • @PYSCOPOMP If my nipples weren't so naturally brittle, I might move to Canada, my friend Pimpswap. If the climate of CanaDA was Southern California's climate I definitely would move up to CanaDA.

  • @napalmcoffee I would stay there,at least they have a warm climate, which is a bonus if you can't afford heating, also why would you move away from your home. Unfortunately this is happening all over Europe and the UK as well, the foreclosures, the lack of jobs, etc! It's been done by design and for very sinister reasons. Agenda 21 springs to mind.

  • @napalmcoffee wot?! Im trying to get out of this police state, canadas a joke.

  • @napalmcoffee yea man tell the fucking world where the last few good places are. dip shit

  • @napalmcoffee nah. its all full. sorry.

  • all I can say is that anyone with a job and a decent wage should buy themselves a heavy handgun if they don't already have one and loose any fear in using it if you have to , I feel I mean really feel sorry for women with children
