  • p.s. Ms.Paynes Vocal Range is unbelieveable! She hits those "high notes" in a "Falsetto" Voice & You don't Notice that She's doing that. Her voice glides just like her Beautiful Body does. After watching her on the pbs special with Lou Rawls, I Appreciate Ms.Payne even more. What a "Treasure" she is.

  • p.s. I would also agree with another poster, to the general listening public - if they even know who she is - she's a "one hit wonder." And, that's not necessarily a bad thing, considering most people have never even had that one hit.

  • omg....hot then and HOT now!!

  • I feel like others, that Miss Paynes "beauty" has got in her way as a "superb" vocal artist. She is so intensly beautiful to this day in 2011!

  • @desert3347 Freda Payne is, indeed, a very attractive lady; however, I certainly wouldn't go as far as saying beauty got in the way of her success. I can name at least five women of color who are far prettier than she. i.e. Barbara McNair was far prettier and, by all accounts, a more versatile talent. If you wanna see a beautiful lady, look up Barbara singing "You're Gonna Love My Baby." Now that, my friend, is a beautiful woman! There's even a clip of Barbara & Freda singing together.

  • it's hard to believe how beautiful this woman is!!! Wow!!!

  • Correction: The first word of my second sentence should be "You".

  • To eplafan ..You couldn't be more wrong. 'Band OF Gold' is not Freda's only hit. She hear her sing it a lot because it is her signature song. She has many hits to her credit. I suggest you find out the many hits to Freda's credit.

She is one of our great Legends.

  • Thanks for putting that out there mschest! I'm absolutely consumed by Freda's great music!Hypnotized, mesmerized, enthralled, you name it...Thanks!!!

  • I love Freda.

  • In response to your comment,I beg to differ! To perhaps most music enthusiasts,"Band of Gold"is Freda Payne's only hit but that appears such due to the fact that this song was the focal point of her singing career, getting the most attention,air-play,endorsements,etc.The fact is that Freda actually claimed 2 other"Hit"records of world-acclaim namely"Deeper and Deeper"and"Bring the Boys Home"(Viet Nam war protest song). As maybe a top 5 fan I HIGHLY RECOMMEND my uploads to hear her other great work!

  • "Band of Gold" was the only hit she ever had .... one hit wonder. I'm sure she's sick to death of singing that song over and over and over and over.

  • her talent was not marketed right and let alone , with a voice like that .... U WONDER WHY IN THE HELL HAVENT THIS WOMAN BECOME MORE FAMOUS..IT REALLY MAKES ME VERY SICK AND MAD THAT THE PUBLIC REALLY SUCKS WHEN IT COMES TO RECOGNIZING TALENT

  • Excellent point!Great! The way I feel is that those like you and I can surely recognize and appreciate such talent and the'hell with those who won't notice! This wonderful site known as Youtube gives all curious ears a final chance to hear the amazing solo music of Freda Payne which is truly a gift!As far as I'm concerned, she is a music phenomenon! Thanks for your profound input MrMusikRnb!!!

  • @eplafan Every time Miss Payne goes to the Bank, she smiles. She has many other hits, another Gold of hers Bring Home the Boys. She has a tremenbous vocal range, to this day. Too bad you and others don't know much about her. Check out the PBS special she was on along with mary wilson, thelma houston, maxine nightengail!

Miss Payne has breath taking beauty to this day and her voice is superb!

  • Great live concert clip showing why singing legend Freda Payne is one of the true greats. Freda lets it rip doing an awesome version of her "Band Of Gold" classic then makes a complete anthem out of "The Wind Beneath My Wings" giving a stunning performance with a glorious vocal...Bravo Freda!!!

  • I'm glad that you saw and enjoyed this riveting and mesmerizing live performance done by Freda Payne for the"Tonight Show"from 1990.That was when Johnny Carson was head-honcho.Jay Leno had the helm as stand-in on this show.Boy did Johnny pick the wrong night to call in sick!Freda blew up the stage with these songs! She clearly demonstrates the essence of vocal talent and artistic eloquence here.Nice review! Thanks!

  • I saw Freda in early 2000 and was amazed by her stage presence, voice, and looks. I was and still am a big fan of hers since the seventies. I grew up listening to her and she is still amazing. Great clip.

  • It appears you got bit by that bug like me because once I heard Freda Payne's voice on a 45rpm vinyl back in the early 1970's,I was hooked! Then, finally got to see her live 2 years ago and just like you said, stage presence, voice and looks! She is a Princess! It was a really great show too!Glad you like the footage. Thanks!

  • OH My Word!!! Freda is just absolutely stunning! Dang she is beautiful and with moves to match. I saw her and Ronnie Spector at the same concert needless to say i was in Rock&Roll Heaven. Fantastic!!! kenesto. Ty so much for posting this .

  • Glad you like it!I saw Freda myself 2 years ago in concert and found her dreamy-beautiful even in her 60's.The show was great too!She and her band go all-out to entertain! And:You are welcome, and thank you!

  • she is fabulous, what year was this? there is nothing like someone singing live with an actual voice

  • So fabulous indeed is she!I will be honest in saying that this live show to me is one of the best I've seen short of being there.Freda Payne performed this show in 1990.I'm glad you like it and I really appreciate your feedback!Thank you!
