I really enjoyed the commentary. It made me laugh. I have good memories with this game. I have to say, I feel gypped that the Japanese version had much better audio quality. A bit jealous I guess. :)
No, it's a cartridge game, but with the VRC6 chip embedded into the hardware, which comes with two extra sound channels that were inaccessible by the North American and European NES (due to the 10NES lockout chip). They used the MMC5 chip to do the best they could to maintain the graphics, doing well with a few exceptions.

Isn't this game a Famicom Disk System Game? That allowed the graphics, sound to be better, as well as easier save storage.
