Thanks trosanelli. Basically you need to stay in contact with your partner with your forearm.Try and "feel" what their technique will be, and counter immediately, your partner tries to counter your counter and so on. Each has to gain advantage over the other. Start off standing in one place, then, as you feel more confident, start to move around. Hope that helps Cheers.

I call it the Goju Spirit. Thank you for sharing wiith us this video, and showing us what these Karateka can do. Much obliged.. Osu
@fumikomgeri Great, keep the videos coming, i enjoy them. And tell the lads, should they ever come to Miami to look me up, and they willl surely have a place to train.
@mrtraditional31 It honestly does not matter if they are god or not, fat or skinny, at least they are out there exercising and giving their all to something they love and have a passion for. Do not degrade them like that. If you were a true Martial Artists you would applaud their efforts
@mrtraditional31 it does not matter at all if they are fat old black white skinny... they are out there pursuing something they love to do... if you were a true martial artist you would not be speaking like that.
@mrtraditional31 Dude....... That's harsh - Do you practice a martial art?? Doesn't sound like it, if you did you'd know better than to disrespect others effort like that - Either way show some dam respect please... If you get to their age (the senior boys that is) and can do this you'll be a lucky man. Personally I would not like to spend 10 sec's in "the ring" with any of them as their opponent. You should not comment on stuff you don't understand - and if you do understand then shame on you.
I'd come train with you, even though I practice Shorin Ryu. Your contact training and use of strike points in your drills is really cool. Good stuff. Can't beat good ole Okinawan karate.
This video reminds me of my old goju days in college. Goju is a good style for personal self defense...just lots and lots of close up training. The close up dojo sparring was a great help to me in later years of training in other styles.
@fumikomgeri maybe you should do some advertising and propaganda. for what ive seen here, your dojo has potential to train a lot of more students :) publishing this video was a good start but theres other things you can try. maybe handing fliers in the street or something. thats how we did it in my dojo and today we have around 20/25 students :) good luck :D
Anything more than 10 dans in my opinion is excessive. you get Ninjitsu where the grandmaster now is 34th dan. it down grades every other system, there 10th dan is evivilent to our black belt.lol
All hear-say. Do what makes you happy. Every dojo everywhere does something a little different than the others. If you don't like it train somewhere else. I do like some of these techniques. It reminds me of japanese jujutsu or aikido. I guess the Ju in goju must be the same. Cool! ;)
@fumikomgeri im not trying to be a dick but my sens i is extremely traditional i dont understand why some of your students are wearing blue belts? orange belts?
I assume we're speaking of Okinawan karate.Chojun Miyagi was opposed to grades because of their divisiveness. After his death in 1953 they were adopted, presumably to promote Karate. There isn't space to discuss this in depth.May suggest you read Morio Higaonnas book The History of Karate.
Wearing a Gi isn't "traditional" Okinawan , it's a Japanese introduction,I believe. I'd hoped that it's the content of the vid that's of interest or comment, not what's worn.
@fumikomgeri oh my god who has told you this information is terrible wrong see the reason these so called new colors its all about making money for the untraditional instructors more ranks more test more training more money its simple my sens i keeps it real pal its white yellow tip then yellow then green tip green then brown tip then brown belt then finally black belt and that goes up to 12th degree normally take a life time for that i am absolutely sure about this
@ilgopeds4378 All due respect sir, but traditional is really a relative term here. The Kyu/Dan system was originally used to denote skill level in a game called Go, as well as in fine arts, and started in Edo period...
@ilgopeds4378 ...Kyu/Dan rank, the belts, even the dogi were not used in Japanese & Okinawan arts until after Jigoro Kano adopted it for Judo in the 1880's, during Meiji Restoration, making it a modern practice. Goju is considered koryu(ancient art), but the kyu/dan system started with judo, which is considered gendai budo(modern art). It may seem traditional to us since it was 200 years ago and newer fighting styles have developed since then, but overall it is a modern practice.
@ilgopeds4378 Not all do. My sensei doesn't charge. Gets sponsership for uniform, hall costs etc. We don't change our belt. We have the same one. All we do it get tiped. E.g 10kyu is white belt red tip 9th Kyu is white belt 2 red tips thn blue, yellow, green, brown, black etc. As your white belt gets darker it shows ur ready to grade. You never wash your belt.
Mas Oyama himself even used the colour system, I have a copy of his writtings on them sitting at home and the requirements for each etc
Any Karate with the word RYU in it is Okinawan and thus refined and distinctly different from Japanese Karate. Okinawan Styles ar more Chinese influenced with More Bunkai different Bunkai etc as Japanese Karate came from Okinawans..The Okinawn System will have more of Everything.
@nandansho Not true, a lot of Jap JuJitsu systems have "Ryu" at the end, it just means "school" For Example Daito-Ryu, Kito-Ryu, Sosushi-Ryu....But yes we all know that Karate came through Okinawa ......These guys look good. Good sweat, hard training...good for them.
@BJJHomos "Okinawa" Was called The Ryu Kyu Kingdom before JAPAN changed it. Therefore the word "Ryu" is indegenous to OKINAWA. Japan was introduced to Karate in 1917. Okinawa gave JAPAN Karate not the Other way around. The word Ryu is a designation pointing to where a style came from, "DojO" means school.
@nandansho I love the authority that you`re speaking with however you`re completely wrong with most of the points that you`ve made. Firstly Ryu (such as Goju Ryu) doesn`t designate that it`s Okinawan. It`s actually a Japanese word more closely translated as `path` or `way` and basically means a system. So numerous different styles of Japanese and Okinawan budo/bujitsu frequently use the term in their school name (Tenshin shoden Katori Shinto Ryu being just one example off the top of my head).
@nandansho Oh and further to my other point, the Ryu for budo systems such as Goju Ryu and the Ryu for Ryukyu (the Kingdom that predated Okinawa Prefecture) aren`t the same. You`re mistaken. The first is 流 the second is 琉. Just because things sound the same in English doesn`t mean they have the same meaning in Japanese.
Lastly don`t forget that Ryu is neither limited to Okinawa nor Karate. There are even Ryuha (schools) of Ikebana which is traditional Japanese flower arranging.
s @stuffandnonsense123 "Amen" is an affirmation by Christians Mslims and Jews after prayer. "Amen" also is the name of an Egyption God. The word How means "Fine" in Chinese.
I don't see your point in crossreferencing a term which if used by a different culture and language base has different meanings. Sounds like you like to argue..pointless aspects of a Martial Art that I am a Master of. Upload Any of Your training, accmplishments etc. Many talk the Talk but have Zero to back their rhetoric.
@nandansho The Amen comment makes no sense. If you`re giving an example of 2 words sounding the same but meaning different things then you should fully understand my clarification about the mistakes you`re making with the various words Ryu.
I honestly don`t think i can explain it more clearly.
@stuffandnonsense123 A little History for you. The Founder of Goju Ryu is Ryū Ryū Ko (ルールーコウ 1852 - 1930), also known as Ryuko, Ryuru Ko, Liu Liu Gung, Liu Liu Ko, To Ru Ko, was a teacher of Fujian White Crane, notable for instructing many of the founders of Okinawan martial arts which later produced Karate. Chojun Miyagi student of Kanryo Higashionna coined the term Goju Ryu which just happens to be the name of Kanryo Higashionna's Chinese Teacher. Ryu Ryu Ko. Yes a Chinese Master named RYU.
@nandansho I`m aware of this nugget of history but i don`t understand your point? You started by saying that if a martial art has ryu in the name that means it`s Okinawan rather than from the mainland because Okinawa used to be called RYUkyu (although I`ve explained with kanji why this is a mistake). Are you now saying it`s because of Ryu Ryu Ko?? I think your getting confused because things sound the same.
Dragon is also pronounced Ryu in Japanese...but yet again it`s a different Ryu.
@stuffandnonsense123 No mistake here Karate came from Okinawa The Great Master of Karate was named Ryu..from which Goju Ryu recieved it's name. You can argue semantics etc but in stone..Karate is from Okinawa most easily identified with "Ryu" in the name. brought to Japan in 1917 by the progenitor of Shotokan Gichin Funikoshi who never taught full Bukai to the Japanese. I talk the talk because i walk the walk. When you win a major title after years of paying Dues then you got credibility period.
@nandansho I`m not denying these things use the word Ryu, I`m saying they are different words with the same sound. Like the word SAW in English which could be the past tense of see OR an instrument for cutting wood. 2 unconnected words that sound the same.
By the way Ryu Ryu Ko ( 劉龍公) is actually a perfect example because the 2 RYUs in his name both have different meanings neither of which are connected to either the Ryukyu (琉球) or the Ryu used by many martial arts schools ( 流).
@stuffandnonsense123 "Shotokan" Is very Japanese meaning Gichin Funikoshi brought that style to Japan. The Okinawans hated The japanese, therefore an Okinawan master did not teach the japanese full Bunkai, The Low Block is just a Low Block in Shotokan. Not true in Okinawan interpretation... the Low Block is an arm break. Okinawan karate is not linear Shotokan is.. thats the big difference. notice Shotokan does not have 'Ryu" in it. I have fought Many Many Styles, Ryu is to be respected.
@nandansho There`s a couple of assumptions and mistakes you`re making. Firstly Shotokan does include Ryu (松濤館流) notice the last kanji, it`s just usually abbreviated, because as i said before Ryu just means a system of techniques.
Secondly the idea that Okinawan Karate is just one thing is nonsense. Karate is a general term for empty handed budo that combines various Chinese arts with other things. Visit a selection of traditional dojos in Okinawa and you`ll see a wide variety of karate styles
love to take the best of all kinds of martial arts if they work 4 me and put them in to my training like a few techniques from this clip will be practising these and teaching them 2 my club alway nice to have somthing new to teach that way keep from the boring same thing
I've been doing Goju Ryu Karate for about three weeks now. I was skeptical at first, but I definitely have gained a lot of respect for this art. I know I'm new to it, but I've come to notice that half the people that talk shit about this haven't the slightest clue as to what they're talking about...Talking shit about something on youtube is a lot different than actually doing it. Half the bad talkers likely haven't done a form of martial arts ever before and are likely ufc fanatics.
the first drills are from the three battles kumae, pure okinawan karate. the techniques done in the 1:50 area are the open hand form of the jodan block, also okinawan. the arm chambering being done is not as obvious because this is a more practical application of the technique. this is okinawan goju-ryu, and these are some of the better training methods ive seen for the style. okinawan goju-ryu is one of the oldest karate styles and is therefore one of the most closely related to kung fu
@fumikomgeri its not an opinion, its a fact. looking closer at your clip though, there are some pretty nice techniques. and besides, it certainly is tradition for okinawan karate to borrow from other styles, its the japanese that add all the esoteria and reduce karates efficacy by way of exclusion. but hey, to each their own. i guess in the first case i meant "traditional" in the westerners sense:=8
It's a fact Goju is heavily influenced by Tiger,Crane & Monk Fist Kung Fu.Was there some "borrowing" inter- Kung Fu styles? I think it's also a fact that there HAS to be some borrowing or "overlapping" of techniques in any style. We all bend the same way. Because someone does one style of M/A it doesn't mean their arm bends any different to another. In my opinion :-) "styles" are different paths leading to the same destination.
@fumikomgeri Those stiles didn´t exist uner that name back in the day. All Ryukyu Karate is heavily influenced by chuan fa. Hence Okinawan Kenpo (law of the fist or the sword) Motobu saru kempo was another style that gives us a living testimony of that historical and cultural influence. Soft or Ju is the most important feature accordying to the inner aspect of the art, making it real powerful.
this isnt traditional okinawan goju. more of a mix of styles. lots of shaolin chin na, even some baguazhang. a pak-sau drill in there borrowed from wing chun but altered to the chou da principles of jeet kune do. maybe it should be called "tricky-tricks" or something like that.
Wow! that's telling me, isn't it.Many thanks, Dim. I never knew how many different styles we were doing. It's good of you to share your knowledge. The lads will be impressed. :-))
Not surprising ryanWeap as Okinawan Karate was very heavily influenced by Tiger and Crane style Kung Fu. Also, everybody bends the same way, so there are bound to be similarities in any style. For instance because someone does, say, Aikido it doesn't mean their wrist bends any different to yours or mine, and a good punch is universal.
Its interesting to see a lot of students are middle-aged men. Why do you think Goju Ryu Karate appeals to such a demographic? Thanks for the video, Goju Ryu Karate would be my choice if I weren't currently studying a different martial art.
Whoa! Steady on old chap! There are only 2 "old blokes" there + me.Both of them have previous karate experience (many years ago).
Others are late 30s early 40s,however,these men ARE married so that may account for their aged appearance.Others are in their 20s so really we have a wide range of ages. But I know what you mean. At our other club most students are 18 to early 30s. Could be just the area we live in. Maybe at 22 all over 30 are "middle aged" ;-) Thanks for your input :-)
@fumikomgeri hehe didn't mean anything by it, it was more of a compliment. What I like about traditional martial arts is the power, speed, agility and skill that they give you and that stays with you during your whole life. hehe now Married life, thats something I didn't take into consideration hehe. I'm 21 and there's people from all ages at my club so it was healthy curiosity. Keep up the good work! :)
traditional martial arts are no good unless you can put them to practice sparring should be done once a week proper sparring as well or in a real fight you will crumble cos your not used to been hit
one word: awesome, even the lower belts are doing an amazing job. I love the way you teach the practical self defense so well, and i love the music too btw
As a student who takes sport karate, which is more flashy, but fun, I must say that Okinawan Karate definitely seems like something fun. Luckily there's a school here where I live, haha.
I enjoy your videos,...looks like the MOST important thing is everyone is having fun,...they are enjoying themselves very well here,..learning growing , and no egos trying to out best each other,...looks like a group of karateka looking to help each other rise to a new level,... keep the vids coming guys !!!
cool..but i've already learn tkd and judo.hence,i decide to be satisfied with 2 only.i'm also already good in fighting.i'm super strong!ha3.just kidding
Schools like yours are rare... I've visited many schools here in the USA. None of the schools I've visited include the conditioning or the jujutsu portion of the arts they purport to teach.
@eusoufodaviu Tell me, why do you believe Muay Thai is so great? I did it for 11 years. You are open to reaps and trips, head butts, eye couges, having your heads thrown into the ground. You have no ground fighting. You don't train for these attacks so you have no defence to them, you are open to them. I've graded in a few arts and only you Thai boxers believe you are the ultimate. You weren't born knowing it, so where do you get this shit from. Real life is not a sport, there's no ref.
@mmtxaz Are meaning sport karate? I'm not. All effectiveness comes down to the training and the students ability to implement that training. I suggest you re-read my comment and really, (I mean really) consider what it would be like to be attacked by 4 or 5 people. Muay Thai is a very effective art, for the ring. But if there wasn't a referee they'd end up in a clinch. You can't end up in a clinch with many attackers. I know a few people who can take a good shot to the head or a....
@mmtxaz ...hard shin kick to the thigh. I don't know any one who can take having an eye couged out or their windpipe crushed. I am in a unique position having trained in both. Do not mistake sport ( no matter how vicious it looks, for real life. Go and experience the different things that are out there and take what is useful.
@BLUELUTRA Your eye gouge and windpipe attack are not rocket science. Anyone can do them. Muay Thai fighters train hardcore while karate is training in outdated techniques.
@mmtxaz They might not be rocket science. But let me tell you what is = You will respond under pressure in exactly the same way the you train under pressure. If you do not train for these things you will not apply them as fast or efficiently as someone who does. You seem to have the idea that I am defending Goju Ryu over Muay Thai. In a self defence real situation against multiple attackers then I would take what Goju has over Muay Thai. Remember, I've done both and yes I've trained in ...
Wha....! In all honesty YukoTheGreat, does this vid bear any resemblance at all to Muay Thai? I mean, come on.... By the way, at what are you Great?:-)
@kasp9451 then you weren't learning Okinawan karate, because none of it is for show. Okinawan karate is entirely about effectiveness (ie: being able to kill an opponent with a single technique).
I love your vids.. Its the closest i can find to the style i now do Bushido-Kai Karate-Jitsu, which is also Okinawan & inspired by a mix of tiger, crane & snake.. Top bannana.. Iv also noticed theres no women.. I took up Bushido at 30 something years old im also a woman.. I can hold my own sparring much younger men.. Comming from Walworth rd helped.. But how comes U dont have any women in your vids.?
Ta nicky! There are no women in our club.A scource of great disappointment to me.I tried getting a Women Only section going, but had no response at all to the advertising. The few women who've had a go left after a few lessons.Either it was too difficult for them or it was me not teaching them correctly.Unbelievable but true, one said she sweated too much & it made her mascara run.Another refused to cut her nails.I don't know how to recruit them.I'm not lowering the standards.
I like the spirit. I like the training. I don't like technique

@mrtraditional31 It honestly does not matter if they are god or not, fat or skinny, at least they are out there exercising and giving their all to something they love and have a passion for. Do not degrade them like that. If you were a true Martial Artists you would applaud their efforts

@mrtraditional31 it does not matter at all if they are fat old black white skinny... they are out there pursuing something they love to do... if you were a true martial artist you would not be speaking like that.
shendoboy 10 months ago
@mrtraditional31 Dude....... That's harsh - Do you practice a martial art?? Doesn't sound like it, if you did you'd know better than to disrespect others effort like that - Either way show some dam respect please... If you get to their age (the senior boys that is) and can do this you'll be a lucky man. Personally I would not like to spend 10 sec's in "the ring" with any of them as their opponent. You should not comment on stuff you don't understand - and if you do understand then shame on you.

@fumikomgeri im not trying to be a dick but my sens i is extremely traditional i dont understand why some of your students are wearing blue belts? orange belts?
ilgopeds4378 1 year ago
@ilgopeds4378

IOGKF (UK) is white,yellow,orange, green,blue,purple,purple with white longtitudinal stripe,brown,brown/1 tag,brown/2 tags,black.
fumikomgeri 1 year ago
@fumikomgeri oh my god who has told you this information is terrible wrong see the reason these so called new colors its all about making money for the untraditional instructors more ranks more test more training more money its simple my sens i keeps it real pal its white yellow tip then yellow then green tip green then brown tip then brown belt then finally black belt and that goes up to 12th degree normally take a life time for that i am absolutely sure about this
ilgopeds4378 1 year ago
@ilgopeds4378
Ok thanks
fumikomgeri 1 year ago
@ilgopeds4378 All due respect sir, but traditional is really a relative term here. The Kyu/Dan system was originally used to denote skill level in a game called Go, as well as in fine arts, and started in Edo period...
deek77 1 year ago
@ilgopeds4378 ...Kyu/Dan rank, the belts, even the dogi were not used in Japanese & Okinawan arts until after Jigoro Kano adopted it for Judo in the 1880's, during Meiji Restoration, making it a modern practice. Goju is considered koryu(ancient art), but the kyu/dan system started with judo, which is considered gendai budo(modern art). It may seem traditional to us since it was 200 years ago and newer fighting styles have developed since then, but overall it is a modern practice.
deek77 1 year ago
@ilgopeds4378 Not all do. My sensei doesn't charge. Gets sponsership for uniform, hall costs etc. We don't change our belt. We have the same one. All we do it get tiped. E.g 10kyu is white belt red tip 9th Kyu is white belt 2 red tips thn blue, yellow, green, brown, black etc. As your white belt gets darker it shows ur ready to grade. You never wash your belt.
Mas Oyama himself even used the colour system, I have a copy of his writtings on them sitting at home and the requirements for each etc
ddamackey 1 year ago
@ddamackey yea tips are good we only use one then ur the next grade expet when going for black

Any Karate with the word RYU in it is Okinawan and thus refined and distinctly different from Japanese Karate. Okinawan Styles ar more Chinese influenced with More Bunkai different Bunkai etc as Japanese Karate came from Okinawans..The Okinawn System will have more of Everything.
nandansho 1 year ago
@nandansho Not true, a lot of Jap JuJitsu systems have "Ryu" at the end, it just means "school" For Example Daito-Ryu, Kito-Ryu, Sosushi-Ryu....But yes we all know that Karate came through Okinawa ......These guys look good. Good sweat, hard training...good for them.
BJJHomos 1 year ago
@BJJHomos "Okinawa" Was called The Ryu Kyu Kingdom before JAPAN changed it. Therefore the word "Ryu" is indegenous to OKINAWA. Japan was introduced to Karate in 1917. Okinawa gave JAPAN Karate not the Other way around. The word Ryu is a designation pointing to where a style came from, "DojO" means school.
nandansho 1 year ago
@nandansho I love the authority that you`re speaking with however you`re completely wrong with most of the points that you`ve made. Firstly Ryu (such as Goju Ryu) doesn`t designate that it`s Okinawan. It`s actually a Japanese word more closely translated as `path` or `way` and basically means a system. So numerous different styles of Japanese and Okinawan budo/bujitsu frequently use the term in their school name (Tenshin shoden Katori Shinto Ryu being just one example off the top of my head).
stuffandnonsense123 9 months ago
@nandansho Oh and further to my other point, the Ryu for budo systems such as Goju Ryu and the Ryu for Ryukyu (the Kingdom that predated Okinawa Prefecture) aren`t the same. You`re mistaken. The first is 流 the second is 琉. Just because things sound the same in English doesn`t mean they have the same meaning in Japanese.
Lastly don`t forget that Ryu is neither limited to Okinawa nor Karate. There are even Ryuha (schools) of Ikebana which is traditional Japanese flower arranging.
stuffandnonsense123 9 months ago
s @stuffandnonsense123 "Amen" is an affirmation by Christians Mslims and Jews after prayer.
Many talk the Talk but have Zero to back their rhetoric.
nandansho 9 months ago
@nandansho The Amen comment makes no sense. If you`re giving an example of 2 words sounding the same but meaning different things then you should fully understand my clarification about the mistakes you`re making with the various words Ryu.
I honestly don`t think i can explain it more clearly.
stuffandnonsense123 9 months ago
Ryu Ryu Ko. Yes a Chinese Master named RYU.
nandansho 9 months ago
@nandansho I`m aware of this nugget of history but i don`t understand your point? You started by saying that if a martial art has ryu in the name that means it`s Okinawan rather than from the mainland because Okinawa used to be called RYUkyu (although I`ve explained with kanji why this is a mistake). Are you now saying it`s because of Ryu Ryu Ko?? I think your getting confused because things sound the same.
Dragon is also pronounced Ryu in Japanese...but yet again it`s a different Ryu.
stuffandnonsense123 9 months ago
@stuffandnonsense123 No mistake here Karate came from Okinawa The Great Master of Karate was named Ryu..from which Goju Ryu recieved it's name. You can argue semantics etc but in stone..Karate is from Okinawa most easily identified with "Ryu" in the name. brought to Japan in 1917 by the progenitor of Shotokan Gichin Funikoshi who never taught full Bukai to the Japanese. I talk the talk because i walk the walk. When you win a major title after years of paying Dues then you got credibility period.
nandansho 9 months ago
@nandansho I`m not denying these things use the word Ryu, I`m saying they are different words with the same sound. Like the word SAW in English which could be the past tense of see OR an instrument for cutting wood. 2 unconnected words that sound the same.
By the way Ryu Ryu Ko ( 劉龍公) is actually a perfect example because the 2 RYUs in his name both have different meanings neither of which are connected to either the Ryukyu (琉球) or the Ryu used by many martial arts schools ( 流).
stuffandnonsense123 9 months ago
@stuffandnonsense123 ryu has three different meaning, from ryukyu, style, dragon
ssj4gotenks00 6 months ago
@ssj4gotenks00 There are even more than just those 3 ......and in China the number of `ryu' sounding kanji will be even more.
My point was that just because Ryukyu, Ryu Ryu Ko and Ryuha all have the sound `ryu' that doesn't mean they are connected.
stuffandnonsense123 5 months ago
@stuffandnonsense123 "Shotokan" Is very Japanese meaning Gichin Funikoshi brought that style to Japan. The Okinawans hated The japanese, therefore an Okinawan master did not teach the japanese full Bunkai, The Low Block is just a Low Block in Shotokan. Not true in Okinawan interpretation... the Low Block is an arm break. Okinawan karate is not linear Shotokan is.. thats the big difference. notice Shotokan does not have 'Ryu" in it. I have fought Many Many Styles, Ryu is to be respected.
nandansho 9 months ago
@nandansho There`s a couple of assumptions and mistakes you`re making. Firstly Shotokan does include Ryu (松濤館流) notice the last kanji, it`s just usually abbreviated, because as i said before Ryu just means a system of techniques.
Secondly the idea that Okinawan Karate is just one thing is nonsense. Karate is a general term for empty handed budo that combines various Chinese arts with other things. Visit a selection of traditional dojos in Okinawa and you`ll see a wide variety of karate styles

Thanks Doc, but it seems we aren't doing Goju-Ryu in DimMak4ever's opinion.
However,we're all entitled to an opinion, aren't we?
fumikomgeri 1 year ago
@fumikomgeri its not an opinion, its a fact. looking closer at your clip though, there are some pretty nice techniques. and besides, it certainly is tradition for okinawan karate to borrow from other styles, its the japanese that add all the esoteria and reduce karates efficacy by way of exclusion. but hey, to each their own. i guess in the first case i meant "traditional" in the westerners sense:=8
DimMak4ever 1 year ago
@DimMak4ever @DimMak4ever
In my opinion :-) "styles" are different paths leading to the same destination.
fumikomgeri 1 year ago
@fumikomgeri Those stiles didn´t exist uner that name back in the day. All Ryukyu Karate is heavily influenced by chuan fa. Hence Okinawan Kenpo (law of the fist or the sword) Motobu saru kempo was another style that gives us a living testimony of that historical and cultural influence. Soft or Ju is the most important feature accordying to the inner aspect of the art, making it real powerful.

ryanWeap 1 year ago
@ryanWeap
Not surprising ryanWeap as Okinawan Karate was very heavily influenced by Tiger and Crane style Kung Fu. Also, everybody bends the same way, so there are bound to be similarities in any style. Real life is not a sport, there's no ref.

mmtxaz 1 year ago
@mmtxaz Are meaning sport karate? I'm not. All effectiveness comes down to the training and the students ability to implement that training. I suggest you re-read my comment and really, (I mean really) consider what it would be like to be attacked by 4 or 5 people. Muay Thai is a very effective art, for the ring. But if there wasn't a referee they'd end up in a clinch. You can't end up in a clinch with many attackers. I know a few people who can take a good shot to the head or a....

If you do not train for these things you will not apply them as fast or efficiently as someone who does. You seem to have the idea that I am defending Goju Ryu over Muay Thai.
