It is absolutely correct to protect the endangered species. The haul of tuna a year all over the world is about 200M tons and 1/4 goes to Japan. Because of the huge percentage Japan is always regarded as if they are the mastermind of the problem but what about the rest 3/4? It's not about telling others what you can eat and what you can't, it's about preventing another species from being extinct by human greed for money. Bluefin Tuna is an endangered species and while Quotas are low enough to prevent that extinction, there's a LOT of poaching of Bluefins and thats what SSCS are there for. They're not taking any action against legal fishermens who uphold the quotas, they're hunting for Poachers who are the real threat to the species.

Japanese scientists also research tuna farming. One of the biggest problem now is feed. they consume large numbers of fishes like sardine. If you get sardines from the ocean, you just rob another tuna of its feed. It'll be very interesting to see how the corporation gets feed for tuna.
@imaricity In case of other farmed fish they replaced it with plant protiens. Most times they have to process it before feeding it to the fish. They are trying that with Bluefins. They may have to genetically modify the Bluefins on order for it to work.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resource(IUCN) has the Northern Bluefin Tuna listed as Critically Endangered. The next step after that is Extinction in the wild. Get it? Extinction, Gone. like the dodo.

technically fishing is a great sport the issue is long lining and trolling those are extremely bad and cause lots of over catch. infact fisherman who fish with poles lines and hooks like back then not only get bigger fish, morefish, and less over catch they actually make 10 times more money then the long line fisherman. fish take a while to mature so fishing industries will eventually collapse anyway and its will be there own fault for fishing out all the sexually mature fish... your move

One thing that is over looked in this is that the Places the Girly men are attacking are farms. There fish that have been Hatched in Fisheries then put in pens to mater. These are fish that have never really seen the wild and have been protected there entire lives. What the Girly men are doing is pretty much cattle rustling and in my neck of the wolds that can get you hung. And truthful interfering in a practice that helps the wild stocks recover.

It is absolutely correct to protect the endangered species. The haul of tuna a year all over the world is about 200M tons and 1/4 goes to Japan. Because of the huge percentage Japan is always regarded as if they are the mastermind of the problem but what about the rest 3/4? The people who have no custom to eat fish seem to have started eating tuna as a part of fashion today, if you get my drift. Japan should reduce the comsumption but also you should do the same.

She Shepherd has interfered with Norwegian whaling operations numerous times in the past, including the scuttling of the Nybraena in 1992 and the Senet in 1994. Since those initial campaigns, an organization called Agenda 21 has take up this call and has sunk around 5 ships or so since then - the most recent on April 2 of this year. Though a separate organization I would be extremely surprised to learn that they were not tied to SSCS in some way - but no one knows who they are.

It's not about telling others what you can eat and what you can't, it's about preventing another species from being extinct by human greed for money. Bluefin Tuna is an endangered species and while Quotas are low enough to prevent that extinction, there's a LOT of poaching of Bluefins and thats what SSCS are there for. They're not taking any action against legal fishermens who uphold the quotas, they're hunting for Poachers who are the real threat to the species.

Japanese scientists also research tuna farming. One of the biggest problem now is feed. they consume large numbers of fishes like sardine. If you get sardines from the ocean, you just rob another tuna of its feed. It'll be very interesting to see how the corporation gets feed for tuna.

@imaricity In case of other farmed fish they replaced it with plant protiens. Most times they have to process it before feeding it to the fish. They are trying that with Bluefins. They may have to genetically modify the Bluefins on order for it to work.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resource(IUCN) has the Northern Bluefin Tuna listed as Critically Endangered. The next step after that is Extinction in the wild. Get it? Extinction, Gone. like the dodo.

2. The Bluefin tuna you are referring to is the NORTHERN Bluefin tuna, it is NOT the same Bluefin that you find around the rest of the world, the ones in mexico, Pacific North Coast, New England and other places ARE completely different fishes(althought some of them are threatened as well.).

You are almost correct. 2 different race of Bluefins Mediterranean. and Carribian. They are indeed same specie of Atlantic Bluefin tuna. Fishermens cannot tell them apart in the middle of Atlantic ocean.

Bluefins from Mexican Carribians are same specie of Tuna of northern Bluefins. You did say they are completely different tuna from the endangered ones which is Giant Northern Blurfin Tuna spawned from Mediterranean water.

@JXZjeremy No you are not wrong. The million $ question is, can we replace extinct Bluefin race with Bluefin eggs from different race of Bluefins. Bluefins used to spawn in Baltic before recently becoming extinct. My theorie is we can reintroduce lost Bluefins. They are still not going to be the same fish but close enough in my opinion.

1: Whose reporting it's near extinction? It's wildly accepted. Most governments accept this, Marine Biologist will tell you it, conservationist will tell you.

PropagandaBuster-san, I really appreciate your opinions they are, quite fair based on the facts. For this topic, I strongly agree that it's strange that only Japanese are the target. I have to say that it's based on the racial discrimination by the Australians. It's funny that they've once been seized the tyranny as "second class" citizens though, now they toally forget the past and enjoy the discrimination as "whites".
I believe that they're just a part of.

It's to be hoped that Japan can also find support and solidarity from other countries working hard to restrict GMO-contamination and the proliferation of Frankenfoods.
It's not going to be easy, however. The EU and the larger Eurozone are constantly under the threat of corruption, especially from governments which are deservedly regarded as "loose cannons" threatening to scuttle existing bans. At the top of the list are those countries recognising the AAT EEZ, which is no coincidence.

In order to advance relations with the Eurozone, Japan should impress on the environmental benefits of fish and ocean mammal harvesting over livestock exploitation, particularly in GMO-contaminated countries.
It is well known that ecoterrorist organisations are constantly pressuring the EU to condition membership on recognition of a whaling ban.
Japan must counter these efforts designed to wreck international relations.

@seseljsrs I bet you never saw that TV show I watched long ago. They fused salmon with cat fish genes. They hoped at least 120% than normal farmed salmon. What they got was more like 400%. GMO just might be the only way you can make this Bluefin farming work. You feed less marine resources to get more fish. Scarely isn't it? It can be great for environment but it has as much potential to be a great disaster.

Now is the perfect time for the Japanese consumer to strike back and demand restrictions on Frankenfoods, including meat and livestock imports from GMO-dominated countries.
Rather than passively accepting racist abuse and ecoterrorism against her citizens, outrageously exploited to advance a territorial claim the size of the AAT EEZ no less, Japan must take a leading role in fighting against Frankenfoods from Oz and other places.

Prior to this crisis, and despite the brave public resistance to GMO imports, Tokyo could be fairly criticised for a flexible attitude towards meat and fish from GMO-dominated countries, and flexibility in particular towards crucial questions regarding Frankenfoods' contamination of livestock and fishing produce. Time for a change.
