  • Stunning ... What a vocal from Marriott

  • Alexis was the grand daddy of R & B in Brittan... the mentored everybody who meant anything in Rock and Blues... He was the man. Steve was showing respect...

  • this dude sounds so much like janis joplin :/

  • intro is "song of a baker" a song marriot did in 68 with small faces i think

  • Maravilhoso!!!! Marriot perfeito!!!!!!

  • wow

  • that's ex-King Crimson Ian Wallace on drums... RIP Ian...

  • Alexis Korner was a great figure in British music. He was a central figure as a promoter of blues and an alchemist who put people together to create bands- he introduced the Stones to each other. His radio work introduced many of us to music we had no other access to (in the dark ages before Youtube). His guitar playing was not great but very good and totally individual. Idiots who suggest that Korner was in anyway a rip off are obviously ignorant of the work of a truly good man. He was loved.

  • this is a big sloppy mess

  • There's something about this track I like a lot. Yeah, they messed up the chorus, but I sensed general joy of perfuming, which is why people liked Steve to begin with!

  • Steve didn't know konw that all these folks would get famous. Though it would have killed him to be famous. He was a sharing lot

  • WOW!!Thanks for posting!! Does anybody know if this show was ever put on a cd? I LOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!

  • @Sagison yes its available............so if you LOOOOOOOOOVE it are you gonna BUYYYYYYYYYYIT?

  • @hambuns yehhhhh, what is it called? I have the get off of my cloud cd but the live stuff sounds beter!!

  • more magic ! '

  • Anything Marriott lends his voice to ROCKS!!

  • Steve and Janis jammin - now there's an act to blow Mick off the stage

  • who are the 2 gits on bass and drums?

  • Nice! I love this stuff.

  • a cool new arrangment on a rock classic by 2 rock pioneers.

This has the look & feel of classic '70s rock.

  • Steve Marriott of the Small Fces & Humble Pie died tragically in a house fire in 1991.

  • 1975? Steve was only 28.

  • I have no problem with him.. don't get me wrong...I realise he's a British hero or something, and I'm cool with that. But someone had to say it. peace.

  • Steve Marriot = Janis Joplin....without the breasts, and premenstrual tension.

  • @Ashvegian Funny, that you say that. As I was listening to the song I was thinking that Marriot's vocals here sounded alot like Joplins.

  • @Lfdjake91 Yeah, there's no escaping it, they must be from the same mould..

  • @Ashvegian Janis was nfluenced by Roky Erickson- I'd say he's more like her less annoying counterpart

  • 1. John Lennon

    2. Steve Marriott

  • Steve Marriott was always full of soul.

  • hey you forgotten *well i guess im doing fine*

    dam ..

  • They took a Rolling stones song and made it much better than Rolling stones it´self cloud ever have done! Sorry but i admit i was more of a hard Rock fan than a rocker fan, but now im Rock n Roll!

    Stev ROCK!

  • I fucking love this version.

Also, Steve Marriott is my hero.

  • Maybe jason75 was expecting a Disney or McDonalds version with nice packaging and no substance. Considering the Stones buit their early career by covering motown songs I guess that would make them not worth listening to either, lol

Steve Marriott was far more original than Keef or Mick could ever hope to be and as much as I love the Stones, Steve could sing circles round Mick and was a better guitar player than Keef, something he proved in both the Small Faces and Humble Pie.

  • keef

  • Keef Riffhard, to be exact :)

  • Comment removed

  • Keef RipsHard

  • Why?

  • Bleh, thought they could come up with something better than this

Ruined the whole attitude of the original

  • and the stones ripped the chord sequence off dylan. i'd rather hear an honest cover version than a plagarists original. Keef has spent his whole career stealing classic blues, country and bluegrass riffs and songs and calling them his own .. what does that make him?

  • Im a fan of both, and Keith would take this cover as a compliment im sure. But Keith and Steve both spent their careers building on their infuences, its what all good artists do.

  • without his work you would not met the blues.

Hats off to Keith RIchards,Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton!

Don't forget Rory Gallagher,a man who truly had the blues in his soul.A step forward!THE BEST!

Anyway...they gave a different interpretation of the old blues...Glad to know 'em all!

  • UvaYakone Ya its my opinion what I say and it's a rip off the stones...any cover is a rip off. they have nothing better else to do and copy someones hard work, so they coin in..I don't have to research diddly squat,, if I say and think it's a rip off of the stones thats my opinion...not yours, I think any covers are rip off.

  • Thanks God it's only your opinion because you couldn't be further from the truth. Saying that they copied it for the money...these two guys were the most sincere, honest musicians you could find- what you said it's fucking disgusting.

I have a good advice for you jason75, don't comment on things and people you don't have a clue about, it'll spare you an embarrassment in the future.

Besides show me the band that have never done any cover...if you credit the author then it's perfectly fine.

  • @jason75 It wasn't a rip off it was a tribute.

  • Rip off from the stones...great song..

  • Rip off? No it's not rip off from the stones, it's a cover.

It's a normal thing to play covers, especially live. I think that you should learn a bit about those two guys too. Both quite close friends with The Stones actually. Alexis is the guy who helped them to start their career and Marriott was a long time good mate of Keith Richards (Keith even wanted Steve as a replacement after Mick Taylor left, Jagger said no- a rumour has it he was afraid to be upstaged).

  • YouTube: Rolling Stones- Best Bands Keith says about his favourites/best bands and he talks about Steve Marriott of Small Faces and Humble Pie. And back on the topic again. Alexis recorded this song on his LP "Get Off My Cloud" 1974 recording featuring - Alexis Korner : vocals, Tipple, percussion Peter Frampton: electric guitar Nicky Hopkins: piano Steve Marriott: electric guitar Keith Richards: vocals/electric guitar Rick Wills: bass guitar Terry Stannard: drums you see Keith is also credited
  • the small faces and humble pie just look up anything by the small faces one of the best band's of the 60'

  • AWESOME

  • sounds more like janis joplin

  • it depends on what period in his career people're talking about.

Plant's voice sounds quite similar to Marriott's when we consider his 60's stuff done when he was in Small Faces. Check out You Need Loving!

In the mid 70's he sang much higher and was much more influenced by gospel music.

Here imo his voice is a little bit strained, but he was a hard living rock'n'roller and screamed for several years in Humble Pie so I'm not surprised. Still he's great nevertheless.

  • Nice , rare stuff seeing Alex Korner- the wizard of the British invasion.

  • I`ll never dis Steve cause he was awesome. I just never got into his highs. He sounded better to me as a melodic story teller IE itchycoo. Tin Soldier was his greatest. Nothing over the top, just magnificant. He had the voice that could have been big in animation as well. Damn gifted!

  • I just love his voice. There is a certain distinct rough soulful quality to it not heard these days. You should check out Humble Pie Live at Filmore with the song 'I'm Read'

  • Robert Plant sounds similar to this guy

  • I don't know why people gave this comment a bad rating. There's a good reason Robert Plant sounds similar to Steve Marriott: Marriott was Jimmy Page's first choice for Led Zeppelin's lead vocal spot before Robert Plant was on the scene, not to mention that Plant was a huge fan of Small Faces, Marriott's band. Oh, and they ripped off You Need Lovin for Whole Lotta Love

  • the thing about Marriott is he sounds better than Plant live

    don't you think?

Plants voice is best but live he seems not to be as great only in the early days did he really kick ass live

Plant is still my favorite singer though :]

  • Steve Marriot is the singer Plant only wished he could be in his dreams.

  • clashcityrocker2007

tell it on any Led Zeppelin's video and you'll be slaughtered hahahahaha ;-)

but it probably results from the ignorance.

  • :P I know i know... lol I guess it does just come down to personal preference really.

  • I think you're exactly true.

I wish this incredible singer would have met the right persons to write him songs that would have made him more remembered. Plant met Page.

  • He didnt need anyone to write songs for him..Marriot is an amazing writer.

  • Of course I agree with you. Don't get me wrong, because I'm totally amazed with this incredible singer I just discovered. I'm as frustrated as everyone here about him been underrated, because he obviously was the reason of a lot of emblematic singers for singing.

Still can you tell me what song he sang that was as strong than "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", or "Since I've Been Lovin You", even "Stairway to Heaven". If you tell me i'll be runnin to listen to it.

  • the songs i would say listen too arnt on you tube.. if you like i could send them to you.

Just incase you can get hold of them id say listen to ...

Soldier- Steve Marriot (Not to be confused with Tin Soldier by The Small Faces.)

Say No More ( Humble Pie)... (This one maybe on you tube. )

Autumn Stone - Small Faces. (This can also be found on y-tube.)

In my opinion all these songs have more emotion in one sentance than any songs i have heard.

  • thank you, I 'm on it!

  • @renode I didn't know that! That's a big surprise to me. Thanks for the information!

  • @renode Everybody ripped everyone else back in those days.

  • @renode :Robert Plant was actually the third choice for the Zeps!Terry Reid turned down the gig, also.Go to Terry Reid, Friends or Walk away Rennee. Steve and Terry had a similar style of voice-both great.

  • @renode that is almost word for word what I would have written, I think Steve replied to Jimmy after Humble Pie was formed , something about broken fingers and of course Robert got the job because Tery Reid was also busy, i love them all.

  • Did The Queen ever give up the whole peerage/OBE thing, and just grant Steve Marriott the middle name "fucking"?

  • Or would that be Sir Steve "fucking" Marriott?

  • only one of you in the wordl

  • I bet this was the song you heard, taped, you were just a kid then. . . My favorite song, "Candyman," 1912, I was just a child then. . .

  • Too much sugar for a dime

  • Alexis Korner - Get Off Of My Cloud

  • You know, every now and then, Steve Marriott's got to take a breath and it sure sounds good when A. K. can be there with a whoop to the holler.

  • Tx for sharing. Two icons on one stage. We are not worthy.

  • Since all this talk about Jagger/Marriott is going on... and this is about the moment he died, 20 years ago, I say that Jagger and him would have no doubt complemented each other very well, but there are no accidents... so why fret??

    (no pun intended, of course)

    RIP Steve Marriott~ o(:c

  • just 'cause this makes me 'feel so good', I think I'll hang around on this cloud, and watch again...

  • Steve MARRIOTT was died since 18 years today 20.04... at 44 years old

    R.I.P.

  • Thanks for sharing these real timeless harmonies and song...

  • 'Just because you feel so good do you have to' try to wake me up so early in the morning????? hey, you, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jagger vs marriot mmm close one

  • I would like to hear Marriott sing "Street fighting man" just to see what he would do with it.I always liked Mick's delivery on that song.

  • It's my first encounter with korner&marriott. Though they say different people listen to jazz and blues and i'm a jazz fan, I'm in pure rapture! Steve Marriott is just supersonic!

  • Jagger did'nt want Steve in the Stones because he would have blown Jagger off the stage. Marriott great singer, guitarist, and song writer. No comparison.

  • @eturfrey Marriott also would have blown away Keith Richards.

  • @eturfrey The Rolling Stones would've been a better band with Steve and Brian in and Mick the fuck out.

  • @Khultan ??????Jagger out....????there must be something You just don't get....

  • @STEINARPETTERSEN So you worship Jagger and I don't. What's it to you?

  • Steve wouldn't have been a fit for the Stones. Why even suggest. Steve was in a class by himself.

  • shouldn't compare marriot to jagger.

sure marriot tplays guitar , has moves and sings great. god bless im and the faces>

jagger cowrote the catalogue and deserves his preeminence!

  • The drummer is the late Ian Wallace, one of the very best, and an old friend.

  • grand moment de blues!quel duo!

  • this is the reason why mick didnt want steve in the stones.10/10 miss you mate, keep rockin on heavens door.hope this helps- nick south on bass, ian wallace on drums.

  • Precisely! Mick couldn't shine Steve's shoes when it came to delivering a powerful vocal.

  • Hi, little Steve!

I´ll never forget You! You`r one of the greatest in the Rock History, like Brian Jones, Keith Moon, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin ...

  • killer

  • That tash is terrible, looks atrocious.

  • I love this version of Get off of my cloud... :)

  • Two of the UK's greatest. Steve Marriott & Steve Winwood...UK's greatest white soul singers. Tell me Steve doesn't shine like Tina Turner here!

  • jimmy paige on bass.. at 1:46

  • Kinda looks like him, but I don't think so.

  • Looks like Dave Davis [of the Kinks] to me

  • yeh now that i look again it doesnt look much like him thought maybe he was jammin out with them

  • If he was he would not be playing the bass.

  • I don't know who it is - but it isn't Page or Dave Davies for sure.

  • it might be Klaus Voorman ???

  • both are great.

    in memory to alexis.

    thanks for posting, fritz51175

  • Small face, huge voice.

  • marriott , what a voice
