I love it. I'm Anglo with about 55 million in laws in Texico, where the sight of somebody's sexy mom in a Smiths tshirt, lovely smile and finely made up, knows three more Amerenglish words to my zero Westam espanol but can sing
" On a hillside de so late" utterly lovely, when crafty capital = Moz meets love unsolicited, therefore SHOCKING = Latino MOZLUST. I mean wow oh wow
@RAMSEY1987 The first guy says that " His songs are very emotional as latinos are, emotional. There is a song for each moment of everyone's life. The second guy says that it reminds him of Raphael ( a very famous spaniard singer) for the way he dresses, very elegant. The third guy says that he grew up in the ghetto and he knew many gang members. he says that instead of being with his gang friends he stayed at his house listening to morrissey's music and stayed away from gangs.
This is terrific! I'm Latina and I'm a huge Morrissey fan. I instantly really liked him from the first time I ever saw him on TV. I was instantly captivated. Even today I have a hard time explaining what it is I like about him so much. There's just something about him that really touches me and makes me feel like he "gets" me. I really like going to shows and seeing all these macho Latino guys that look like total gangsters lose their minds when he gets on stage.
its basically strickly la county. latinos in oc where i'm at scratch their head whenever i mention listening to morrissey but in la you're not even considered a real mexican if you're not a fan.
This has to be by far one of the best pieces I've seen on Morrissey by the media. It doesn't have to do so much about his Latino following as much as it has to do with people that genuinely enjoy his music. I am 24 years old and from Los Angeles and I don't seen all that many Mozza fans around as they depict in other pieces. I hope to find some sane Morrissey fans.
(...continued) As a Latina (not of Mexican decent) fan living on the east coast, I'll stay put, and admire Moz alone as the true loner I am. :D I think if I ever went to L.A. I probably wouldn't feel right. I do admire the man, just maybe not so much as those presented here. I like The Smiths are a whole more.
Interesting. The whole passionate thing to me seems like a stereotype. It makes Latinos seem like our emotions are ONLY in extremes. Also, I find it interesting that the focus on Latino Morrissey fans is really based on Mexican Americans in LA. I've read a couple of articles that wrote of Latinos as growing up on ranchera music (they tried to make a connection there), when ranchera is specifically a part of Mexican culture.
Not too many people know this, but Morrissey was a coyote in the mid-80s through early nineties. He personally transported many people into the country, even when they couldn't afford it. That's why us Mexicans really love him.
i am latino and i have a great appreciation for Morrissey and his music...I think latinos wear their hearts on their sleeves and are people full of passion and that characteristic seems to parrallel morrissey's demeanor and music...We get Morrissey...
p.s. I also thinks Mexicans can relate to Morrissey because he is like a Richy Valens to us. Many people forget that Mexicans influenced Rock-n-roll in the 50s and early 60s with sentimental songs.
No compares guey, nada que ver el uno con el otro. Si Morrissey es grande, pero tambien lo es Jaguares. Diferentes generos, diferentes estilos. NO compares.
Two years ago I reported Estefan Enterprises to the FBI, but the biggest disappointment was when GLORIA and EMILIO ESTEFAN confessed that they knew about, and agree with, everything that has been going on in their companies.
For more details search FRANK AMADEO and GLORIA ESTEFAN CRIMINAL on You Tube.
yeah...I remember first hearing about the Smiths and Morrissey through my cousins in South Central LA...there we were bumpin The Smiths in the middle of the biggest gang bangin era ever!!!!
His style really resembles some of the Latin Artists Vocalists our parents listened to, the whole really emotional style of singing, with topics full of tragedy, love and loss (even the flamboyount style mannerisms)...stuff like that...it's hard to explain but thats part of the connection..
In began really in the 90s where Latinos (mexicans preferably) dressed-up as Rebels. Listened to Morrissey, Depeche Mode and The Cure. As well as Deep house, Rock-en-espanol. The style consisted of both the Greaser style with a little GQ influenced. Overall GREAT parties, great style and great people. Many of them became successful people afterwards. And this is why many still follow Morrissey because he gave us LIFE.
@Djmemez This is so true! I remember growing up in San Fernando and two of our next door neighbors were major rockabillys. I remember going to our neighbors house to play with their little sister and you could always hear either "Suedehead" or "Boys Don't Cry" blasting out of their room. I used to crush on them so hard because they had the most beautiful pompadours I had ever seen and would always make me blush when they would sing the lyrics to me. Those were beautiful memories. :)
Founder of Latin Grammy Awards Emilio Estefan and his wife the famous cuban singer Gloria Estefan agree with frauds and money laundering and in their companies. Details see dalva-d.blogspot.
morrisey also change my life..in the early 90's house partys where happening i was into gangsta style in E.L.A..but when i went to a house party...i totally felt in love with his songs i ask my friend who sang that song ..he said Morrissey..then on nothing but morrissey style...til now!!! SEMPER FI to Morrissey
I'm Puerto Rican and Dominican, and I didn't know that he was this popular with Latinos, even though it's mainly Mexicans and Chicanos that support his music, amongst our people. I didn't realize this, when I started to listen to his music: about 6 years ago. The devotion is touching.
