  • Very good video. I've just done my first moon vid with a Celestron 6se and NexImage camera. It looked pretty similar to this once I realised that you have to re-focus the telescope after taking the eyepiece off. It took me ages to suss that one out, I wondered why it all looked fuzzy at first. Getting the hang of it now.

  • The square isn't really a square, I think it's an optical illusion, the upper part is a shadow, the bottom right we do not really see and only the bottom left seems to look like a corner of the square but if you cover the square with your finger you can clearly see that it is round-ish and actually the right side rim of a round crater, nice vid btw

  • Hello!could you please tell me how is it so clear?i'm using HD web camera(no lens) no barlow with an etx 125 and i can not get picture as clear as yours.its all blury and shaky.is there secret i dont know about?:(

  • sunrise the best song to ever put on when ur looking at a planet

  • How did you managed different zooms with the webcamera, without losing sharpness ??

  • @ThePROMITHEAS1

There were no zooms on the video.

  • @jim59913 Strange, at 1:00 the surface of the moon shows a bit closer somehow.

  • very nice video Jim, one of my scopes is a 7inch Meade Mak. I've been anxious to try this, just need to purchase a web cam and and wait until the moon is directly above or a very steady sky. Best of luck with your astronomy, Carl

  • Im thinking converting webcam to telescope or pair of binoculars

  • Ït's kinda funny how you see the shadow of the moonlander in the middle of the pic to the right...

    LIAR!..

  • @PezDJ

Its kinda funny how certain people can get on here and make comments about somthing they know absolutely nothing about and try to convince everyone else otherwise.

  • 1:05 -rectangular structure inside the double crater!

    :P

  • is it youtube that makes it look a little out of focus there compression is crap a have a 12" newt dob mount 4 a 90mm this is nice and crisp in parts tell me did ya use a barlow ect or other ?

  • Actually I didn't even notice it until someone brought it to my attention after about a year. After I saw it, I looked at the original before any compression and there it was also. I guess its probably just a shadow from the surrounding rocks, dont you think?

  • @todd8137 its etc not ect

  • @QuickProfits

Come to think of it, that is correct. Ya its been 34 years since I was last in school I probably need a refresher on more than just that one thing!

  • lol that went awesome with the music!

  • @VaporHQ

You mean the moon and yes it can with the proper eyepiece >.>

  • Ya was'nt it though, I thought it was great. lol Gotta see it from the humorous side.

  • music's a bit much. Oy.

  • music's a bit much. Oy.

  • @ChefGirl22

Wasn't it though, I thought it was kinda humorous for such an amateurish view of something so great that goes around the earth on a daily routine.

  • upper right side. you can see the shadow of the satelight orbiting around the moon thats taking the video. lol nice try

  • Actually if you look really close you soon realize its a smudge of dirt or dust on the lens of the camera. I dont think a satellite would actually make a shadow on the moon from their altitude.

  • @VaporHQ I have looked thru a Questar 3.5 with microsoft lifecam VX-1000 1.3 mp webcam attached at prime focus and was able to see the moon as well. So there isn't any reason why this guy couldn't get the results shown here with a 3.5 he has...

  • Great ! Did you catch that large square structure in that crater ?!!! Wow !!

  • Whatever !

  • what software did you use to film?

  • nice! if we could just see the action side of the moon..... one can wish.

  • @VaporHQ why not dude

  • Very nice job! I like your video a lot.

I take pictures with my small digital camera that I hold up to myDob eyepiece and get some nice shots occasionally. It's fun to do it the cheap and low tech way...

  • Its so wonderfull !!!!!

    Congratulations

  • haha "then I pointed it at the moon"

  • That's AWESOME :)

  • look at all that cheese..

  • refractor or reflector?

  • @jim59913 Nice video Jim , are using a Meade ETX-90?

  • @archannjus88 Catadioptric - neither :)

  • @archannjus88 Cassegrain telescope

  • jim59913 ur full of shit

  • love the music selection! 5 stars

  • Nice job Jim :)

  • OLD BRO AND THE ANCESTPRS asks are there ancient structor on Mars and Moon try Google or WEB and BEHOLD THE FUTURE WAS HERE DID U SEE IT

  • Thats not english...

  • Ive just done a similar job with a logitec webcam fitted onto an old Tasco astronomical telescope. The results are fab!. And now I can process the images through my computer to enhance them, taking single or multiple shots, or short videos. To increase magnification you need to use barlow lenses, or you could just use the zoom facility in the image processing software ( though this just magnifies pixels) and using a layering technique allows better imaging of faint objects. Your vid is brill....

  • imagine what an amazing discovery it was when Galileo pointed his telescope at the moon and discovered it had craters and mountains...

Cool video. Especially cool to do with your children I should imagine.

  • Nice video! :)

  • 1:01 brilliant view. amazing. good job.

  • LOL the music made that vid 10 times better

  • great vid i did the same but the result wasn't that good what scope are you using and what web cam did you use you seem to zoom at one stage how did you do that

    Eamonn Dunne

  • That was an Orion Starmax 90 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain with just a regular old intel webcam put in the back of the scope at prime focus. No eyepeice lenses. That particular scope would be like a 1250 mm camera lens and no zoom capability.

  • exelent

  • great job

  • nice shot!!!

  • Very nice ty

  • very cool i seen a couple of really interesting objects on your video thanks alot going to make one my self now i think ill use my night vision as well thanks again didn't think it could be done .. right on dude. lol

  • i will try this with my 8 inch dob :D

  • I just bought Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ Telescope APERTURE 130mm, FL 650mm, FR=5 and it comes with 10mm lens and 20mm lens. first do i need Celestron Ultima 1.25 in 2x to get closer images, second i just bought this one and i can exchange it with Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ 1000mm APERTURE 114mm FR 8.77 or keep the 130EQ?

  • sweet

  • is there a live webcam telescope in the net?

  • were

  • Woah!! if you can get clear views like that from a 90mm mac im gonna have fun with my 153mm which i havent gotten as yet.

Im planning to get that 153mm dobsobian for $300. Pretty good deal eh

  • is that the moon just passing through the lens or were you moving the scope?

  • passing through

  • Yess, that's the way to do it: glue and tape, my style!

  • men that's a great video, I got a 80mm, also a webcam, but haven't been able to get such a great video. How did you modified your webcam?

  • what's the name of the song? I've heard it my hall life but I don't know who made it

  • if i'm not wrong it's from the movie '2001 space odissey', just make a quick search on google for its OST and you'll find it

  • Hmm - you also managed to get what looks like the shadow of a LEM

  • Dirt on the lens :-)

  • That was cool.

Check my Moon vid at AcousticNeon.

P.S. How do you add words at the begining and music thruogh the movie.

  • He used Windows Movie Maker, it comes with any Windows PC.

  • webcams seem to work surprisingly well on telescopes

  • Exhilirating! I felt like I was flying over the moon. Good idea on how to view without having to try to see with the eye next to the stupid eye piece.

  • terrific footage

  • That was fantastic for a 90mm scope.Great shots there.Keep them planets coming..Oh yess the music was spot on too!!!!!

  • so cool i never new u could do that!!

  • looks like my face

  • It is made of cheese!

  • dude, that rocks :)

  • I clicked this thinking it was about the eclipse

  • ditto

  • read the subject numbnuts! the both o'yas!

  • What song is this?

  • Also Sprach Zarathustra, which was used as the theme for 2001: A Space Odyssey

  • thanks

  • Thanks for the tip about the 35 mm container :-) Now it's time to look out with a cam..

  • It was an intel cs330. Im pretty sure they're not made anymore and there are a lot of newer/better cams out there.Theres a lot of info on this subject to be found on youtube.

  • Thanks anyway. You gave me new ideas.. :-)

  • really good

    what is your cam?

  • I had on Bose headphones, and now I have chillbumps!

    Nice clip :)

Google "John moon anomalies" and buckle your seatbelt . . .

  • After posting this video and watching it a few times I have noticed a rectangular object in one of the craters in the left third of the video. I didnt notice it at first. Strange arrangement of pixels !

  • awsum dude! good one, clever done too

  • very nice. The music was a nice touch.

  • cool
