and no she must not wear any thing .. but the boy is the one who suppose to wear the sultan wear ..but still good acting ..really good acting & poor Portia afraid that he'll choose the correct casket then her love will be in danger !
Um, actually Morocco is more arabic than African. The play describes him as 'tawny'which is more yellowish-brown. that said, do you cast an actor solely on the color of their skin? I saw a magnificent African American play Claudius to a white King Hamlet. And besides, how did you ever hear how the voice was supposed to sound? I don't recall any recordings from the 1600s...but maybe I'm wrong.
Quite possibly the WORST Morocco I've ever seen. He's doing every lovey dovey classical actor cliche in the book. With the wobbly voice and hands in the air. AWFUL! Morocco should be an enjoyable fun character to watch.
I'm not sure it's fair to say Portia is horrible. She only gets one line in this clip! Morocco isn't exactly subtle is he? Interesting how many actors feel the need to put on a "Shakespeare" voice.
do u have the previous part of this particular speech? im doing it for a monlogue! It starts on Some god direct my judgement... and ends with... this mortal breathing saint. Thanks : )
This Prince of Morocco is really weird and this is the version where Portia seems most distraught. Very different from the usual portrayal.

@joyleng I thought I'd work with the actress to portray what Portia would actually be feeling if this stranger whom she doesn't love would marry her.

Morocco is not black, and should not be played as "black" (all P.C. concerns aside).
Morocco is (strangely enough) from Morocco and is a "tawny" skinned arabic character. He is not exactly a womans -lib type.

Interesting interpretation of Morocco.
Sort of a comic-pathetic, female oppressive(will he insist she wear a ji-hab?), arabic sultan-type(if you will)....
Beautiful actress playing Portia. She loathes Morocco...but has no choice but to abide by her father's wishes.
