  • are u chinese or smthing?

  • @anamtaj I don't see what that would have to do with putting on a sari. I am not of Chinese origin, but why would it make any difference if I was?

  • Ah thanks so much. My friend tried to teach me a million times how to tie it and I kept forgetting.... gonna have to bookmark your video for future reference! You're rocking the Amy from Evanescence look by the way - soo pretty! :)

  • hi, do you have to wrap it around you only once, cos wen i do that the border on the bottom of my sari can only be seen form the frnt.

  • This is the BEST instruction by far on how to tie a saree. I am an American woman who recently visited and worked in India for an entire month. I am going to my daughter's school to do a presentation on India and wearing my saree. Thank goodness for your EXCELLENT instruction so I can put it on correctly and not have it fall off of me!

  • My co-worker got his mum to send me a sari from india. As i had no idea how to wear one i went on utube for instructions. I found your video the best one i saw as it was detailed and easy to understand. Once i mastered putting it on it looked gorgeous. Thankyou!!!

  • My co-worker had his mother send me a gorgeous sari from india. As i had no idea how to wear one i searched utube for instructions. I found your video the best one i watched as it was detailed and easy to understand. Once i mastered putting it on it looked fab. Thankyou!!!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Seriously talking I like your video a lot really perfect and explained well.... Since I am an Indian it's a wonderful feeling that others do follow such practices... Hats off to you...thanksss

  • Wow...Very pretty. You look great. Thanks for showing this style. . I have also upload a video in my site about how to wear a half sari..

  • I'm about to go to Garba with some Idian friends of mine, and I borrowed someone's sorry. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! Now I can put it on myself, and this was by far the best/most clear video I found. And everyone else seems to agree too! so Thanks!

  • Thank you a million!!!! I am now wearing my sari correctly. You should've seen me the 1st time, I was a mess! Lol. Namaste.

  • Wow, i love this.thanks so much for the dteailed info. nefaira.

  • Well done! As an Indian woman, I feel really touched and impressed when people from other parts of the world take an interest in the traditional costume of my land. Enjoy the saree and do post more videos. : )

  • o wow,.. you never think a video like this is gonna b usfull till you need it ^.^ ye i have a sari and were having an india night at guides so i wondered how people should put it on.. i gotta watch it till it sinled in fully ^.^ THANK YOU U R A LIFE SAVER!!!

  • Hahahahaha! I don't think I need to say anything further about that Unnst woman...her mean comments on my video only prove she is both jealous and mentally unstable. So sad! I hope she gets the help she so desperately needs. And thank *you* so much for your support! It is greatly appreciated!! Cheers doll!

  • Hello dear Nefairia ! ... Me being an Indian woman , wear sarees, salwar suits as well as western wear. I must say I was absolutely touched by your video !! Your interest in a traditional dress of a country which is not your own, is extremely commendable. You have paid attention to such small details which has impressed me greatly ... You are truly blessed ! Stay well dear !! :))))))))

  • Oh, thank you *so very much* for your extremely kind support and comments. Some people who have nothing better to do have given me a lot of grief for not "putting the sari on perfectly". Well, I never had a mother or cousin or any family members whatsoever to teach me how to do it, so thanks for understanding that and being so wonderful. Your comment made my day. Blessings to you!

  • Nefairia, that was such an impeccable and thorough explanation of how to wear a sari, and I love how you mentioned the little cultural "don't" of draping it over too low. You've done your research!

Thank you so much for perfect instructions, and my mother and I will be following them very closely!

Sidenote: You look absolutely gorgeous in that color!

  • You don't know how much your comment means to me...yes, I have done quite a bit of research on almost all of Indian culture (it's the best one in my book!) so thank you very much for taking note of that. All I can say is people like you make me glad that I have posted this video. So glad you enjoyed it! All the best to you and your mum!

  • Great video! Thank you.

  • Cheers for watching it, and commenting! Big smiles!!

  • Thank you very much for the video. It is very informative and clear. My grandmother in Mauritius but of south indian Tamil origin also taught me to tie a little knot in the sari at the beginning stage which you then tuck into the petticoat. It's probably as an extra support for the sari so that it doesn't slip off. I thought I just share that with you as I've never told anyone about that and thought you might find it helpful. Thank you again very much for your video. Regards, Natasha :)

  • Thanks for the tip, I will definitely try it! You're very sweet to comment on it, and I am so glad you enjoyed the video. Many thanks to *you*!

  • she's soo fair! Beautiful <3

  • Thankies! As I like to say, "Flattery will get you *everywhere*!" Hehe. Best regards to you!

  • @nefairia thank you som much!!! I have my first sari and it is a very special occasion that I will be wearing it for and thanks to you I feel confident in wearing one now!!!!

  • wonderful... your english grammar is easy to understand, 1 of my friend gave me sari and i really don't have any idea of how to wear it, and its good to know by searching here i found your explanation & demo clear as i need.Godbless

  • Wooo thank you for this, Im going to India thsi summer vacations an I will buy 2 or 3 saris and I was wondering how o dress with one of these wonderful Indian cloths... but I have a question...this is the only way you can wear or roll a sari ? because I've been reading about there are different saris ( top or the rest of the sari) and ways to put around your body...depending if you're married or single....is this true? or do I find a misake in the information that I've read?

  • This is a wonderful video, I feel confident enough to put one of mine on for temple next time I go!

  • nice. anil Reddy

  • To be honest, I'm Indian and I've never really seen a Western woman explain the dressing of a saree so well. It looked very nice on you, and perhaps the shoulder thing isn't the most common, but it is a fashion of it. Loved watching the video. Namaste.

  • Thank you..so clear and easy to follow...

  • Hi..!! I am indian and i jus want to say that u did a very good job with the sari.... I myself cannot drape it perfectly yet...Atleast u have made efforts to learn how to drape it... :)

  • I just want to say thank you for posting this video. your video was very easy.

  • Thanks for the video - great instructions. Last night was the 1st time I'd put a sari on myself and I got comments on how great it looked so I can't have done too badly thanks to your video!

  • helps if u use safety pins on the pleats and shoulder

  • @SkaterGymnist @sreeharigirish Your comment made my day! I've gotten many "angry" (um, perhaps jealous?!!) ladies telling me that the final pleating on the shoulder is wrong, and while it might not be perfect, I have done my best. How many other Western ladies do you see wearing saris? Exactly! Thank you for the support! Best Regards.

  • @sreeharigirish Short, but sweet! Cheers to you for watching and your kind compliment :D

  • what i like about indian is there are still holding with there customs not like other countries !

  • @sha6ar6oon I think it is wonderful too. Thank you for watching and commenting on my video!

  • thats a super spiff sari, and your hair is frickin awesome!!

  • Thank you for posting this video. :o)

  • wow.. wonderful.. ur demonstration is better than many other women who tried to teach how to war a saree. i was looking for a video to recommend to other person and i have chosen yours. Thanks for ur effort.

  • thanks for the tutorial! my sister just brought a sari from india to ourmom and gosh this helped a lot!

  • wow! will me marry me

  • LOL thanks for the offer but I'm going to have to say no. But I do appreciate the offer!

  • lol. u r too excited..

  • U luk gud in sari but the way you were doing it is not completely correct. I appreciate the effort you took to learn to wear sari. The username 'utsavsarees' teaches how to wear sari and I think it's better to take a look at her videos, just to wear it better. where r u originally from? Just curious. ur pretty:)

  • First of all, thanks for the compliments and the constructive criticism. Where am I from? I have lived all over the world, so I just refer to myself a "global gypsy", hee hee. I don't really even have a hometown, I've moved around so much in my life.

    Cheers, and thanks for watching!

  • Nice job. Though not it is your native dress, you have demonstrated it in a nice way. It needs taste and dedication for one to go for it. Good Job. Thank you.

  • Well, I thank you very much for your comment! It's very uplifting to read this, after a few people have come down so hard on me for not wearing a sari "perfectly" (as if there is only *one* way to wear a sari, which is completely untrue!)

Thank you very much for watching and for your very kind response!

    Best Regards,

    ~N

  • This is really great video. My mum is Indian, and this is almost exactly how she wears her sarees. And the people who are trying to tear it down, they are just _jealous_! Take no note of them. Obviously they have not ever seen Mother Theresa and how she wore her own saree! Maybe that would wake some of these people up a bit. Thanks for the great video!

  • Nice sari, one thing I wanted to point out that the number of pleats does not depend on how tall you are and has nothing to do with your height,it depends on the length of the sari and how ofcourse how much of it will be used to go around ( so the size of your waist is important) and if you have a small waist than more of sari is available for pleats.

  • I've checked out a few videos as I'm marrying someone from India and will be wearing a sari for our Indian wedding. We recently bought a sari for me to become comfortable wearing. This video is fantastic. You really helped me feel more comfortable with putting the sari on. Thank you. Namaste.

  • Hi

    This was awesome.

I am very curious about how to drape a sari in Konkini style. Can u post something on tat

  • I love this video! All the embroidery of my saree is in the pallu and I don't want it to be in the front.

Do you have a tutorial on how to wear a saree with the pallu in the front?

  • Thanks a Lot i wanted to learn how to wear bengali saree i learnt it next function at my office i will be trying it

  • Thanks so much for this video, I am going to an Indian wedding for the 1st time and I have bought a lovely sari but had no idea how to wear it and I have been worried that I will put it on wrong and give offence! Your video was easy to follow and such a great help, thanks!!!! :) Michelle

  • Thanks for the compliments, and having lived in India and traveled all over that country, I've seen so many different kinds of shoulder *pleats* (I'm fairly sure that's what you meant since we don't eat off our shoulders like plates! : ) I do my own take on them. Thanks for watching, and all the best to you!

  • im wearing a sari for prom and this was soooooo helpful thank you!!

  • Oh, that is too cool! A sari for prom!! Hope it went well and you had a great time. I bet you looked lovely! Thank you for your positive comment.

  • Thanks for posting this. My boy friend is Indian and I'll be wearing a Saree very soon so this has been very helpful!

  • Something tells me he was probably very excited to see you in traditional Indian clothing! Glad to have helped...

  • Dear unnst . If your accomplishments are so great, why not post a video and show us all how to wear a sari -the unnst way. Anyone can say they can do it better but talk is so cheap. Show me you can do it better.

    Much Love.

  • Can you please tell me where I can get one?

  • I like the video. some people have humor that is malicious. It doesn't make it right but we have to be careful of ourselves we might make the same mistake or have disc someone else for thier looks or the way they say things. It doesn't make it right to say such a comment, the person unnst wrote. I am sorry for that.

  • im an indian... this isn't the right way to tie saree.. check out otha videos by sum native indians... ur plits are wrong, ur adjustment is wrong n i can say tht the 'mundhanai' means the part tht hangs on ur shoulder is extremely long.... it shud b knee length(thtz standard length n most preferred).. no hard feelings.. im just correcting u... but anyway... itz pretty amazing to c a white lady demonstrating on saree draping...

  • Thanks - good info.

  • Cheers!! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thank You! :)

  • like this vedio

  • i am half indian-half filipino, i thanks to your video, obviously i learned more about my indian side. keep doing what you do, upholding diversity, and don't stop because of rude comments like unnst. i think your video was excellent :)

  • Why, thank you. Your support is greatly appreciated : )

  • Thank you, Laxshmi83. It's obvious this woman has nothing better to do than trash me for some unknown reason. She needs to go practice her temple dance or get a hobby or something, indeed! Cheers for watching, and best to you!

  • I am Indian too, but her instructions have holes all over. The pleating is totally wrong.

  • wat does namaste mean?

  • "Namaste" is used as both a greeting and a way of saying goodbye in India. It means, "The Divine in me salutes and respects the Divine in you." A more formal way of saying this (i.e. to an elder person you respect, or to a religious leader, etc.) is "Namaskaar".

    Namaste to you, Lidzz77!!

  • Very beautiful. 5*

  • She has shown it so succinctly and wonderfully. My sister learnt from her. Thank you.

  • aaaa....take it easy chika. You're talking about another culture that you don't belong to, and I'm telling you point blank that's a messy way to wear it. The reason why Indian people haven't told you how to wear a sari is probably because they didn't want to make a big deal. But take it from an Indian woman who has worn her saris a hundred times more than you.... they way you did it is very messy.

  • Sweetheart, I've *lived* in India for over a year, and studied Bharatanatyam for seven years (and even studied it in Chennai). My Indian guru taught me how to wear a sari. Personally, I think you're just jealous that I look lovely (and light) wearing it. Like I said, why don't *you* post your own video of you putting on a sari since you're obviously so adept at it? The gauntlet has been thrown down!! I can't wait to see your video!! Be sure to let me know when it's up. Cheers!!

  • I see you haven't posted any of my replies, making it look like you had the last word. what a loser you are. I am so much more accomplished than you in the Indian arts. My 13 years of Bharathnatyam with Arangetram and Kuchupudi can't stand to your measly 7. You're very insecure and stage your comment board nefaria. If I were to listen to you and make a video, I would sucom to your immaturity. I'm an authentic Indian woman and I'm telling you, your instructions are poor as hell.

  • Wow....bitter much?!!

That's all I have to say to you. The fact that you keep coming back to trash my video shows exactly what sort of person you are. I'm not sure why you have a personal vendetta against me, but whatever. You're free to have your opinion, and your posts only make you look bad, not me.

    All the Best!

  • uunst ..u sound like an idiot. get a life

  • Also, modern Indian women these days don't wear long sleeved blouses that moreover ...don't fit the biceps like yours. Usually, senior citizens wear it like that. I usually get my blouses tailored to fit. And the sleeve is shorter these days, but still very elegant. I watched Rachel Getting Married yesterday, and that was the worst Sari wedding tied by westerners. It reminded me of your video. :)

  • My blouse was tailored specifically to fit me by a woman in India. I prefer the shoulders to be a bit longer so I don't look like a "loose" woman. I don't find shorter sleeves elegant, I think they make a woman look trashy and like she is a "woman of the night". But that's just my personal opinion : )

  • modern way to wear saree, show navel --> very hot :)

  • Wonderful video! Very detailed, precise, and informative, and she is a lovely lady--great hair! Thanks again. =)

  • Great video, watched several videos and this was the first one that really allowed me to finally wear a sari (successfully) without the help of others. Thank you!

  • Great job, even though i thought it may come out looking messy, the top pleats near her shoulder could of used a bit more altering...but nonetheless, she was precise and did great!!! :o)

  • please help me how to choose blouse of differnet shades and peticoat...........greatly explained but what about innerwear.......???

  • i think she did the last bit wrong... the part where she's trying to make pleats for the drape over her shoulder .. but otherwise excellent!

  • Tq so much for the very detailed tips how to wear saree! im lovin it!now i can wear saree..

  • Wow that was really really helpful!! Thank you very much!

  • Oh Very Beautiful!! But as per my opinion, she should open her Navel more in Saree-Blouse for attraction.
