I 've read pretty much all comments and have reached a conclusion. People are ignorant and stupid and judge things they have no idea about. Swtor is Kotor ( lore ) minus Mass effect ( story telling ) plus dragon age ( battle ). They took the best mmo applicable elements and created this masterpiece. When lucas was making starwars thr guys from blizzard were not even born so go F yourselves wow fanboys.
The battle is EXACTLY the same as WoW's with a permanent companion when soloing (you know, you can have up to SEVEN in Guild Wars, the game that invented the permanent companions in the MMO scene).
The game is a wow clone with slightly better story and better immersion due to the voice acting. Not hating on it, I'm playing it ATM, but c'mon, be realistic, they played INCREDIBLY safe (I'd do the same if I was investing 200,000,000.00).
@CKwolf741 Maybe an arm dismemberment could pass on a rated T game. But slicing someone in half would warrant an M rating. I wholeheartedly agree with you that it's not the most violent thing in this context, but you have to contend with the lowest common denominator, when you're in America.
@pennclick I remember doing horrible things to stormtroopers in the force unleashed games and their still T rated, not trying to whine just pointing out :).
On the disappointment of the Lightsaber functions - I think it would be pretty neat if say, you get a killing blow with a Lightsaber, why not have an arm get chopped off, or a mob cut in half? Something like that wouldn't be too graphic or violent and would stick to the whole Jedi / Sith feeling.

Wellas it's more based on knights of the old republic from bioware then it's nothing like wow also has a feel to star wars galaxies if you've only played wow and no other mmos you won't be able to judge this mmo without at least playing the other mmos I mentioned oh and all classes get a companion if I remember you get four in total I might be wrong I'm sure mt t can verify this or not.
i haven't play this yet, but it all seems to me like just re-skinned WOW, at least for this caster character, which is disappointing. i was expecting that 10 years newer game will bring something dramatically new and original into the MMO but it's just "copying" predecessor :-(

I don't understand why people keeps talking about "the wow killer"-game. No game will "kill" WoW. Whilst some say that WoW will lose 1.5million players for Old Republic WoW will still have another 10million players playing the game.
Can't we just agree that both games are good? I myself am really excited how this game will handle the dungeon & raid system aka flashpoints and operations in Old Republic.
Once you do dungeons you will run out often. That extra 100 saved me a bunch on the beta weekend. I'll be getting this soon. I won't be playing the sorcerer though, I think.
@RyuuHawke well its not like chain lightning in wow but there are AoE lightning spells :) it doesnt jump from guy to guy its more like a straight forward AoE.
@o3P1KoMiDGeT WoW subs will go down to probably about 1-3m when mists of pandaria is released, auto attack will be removed which means all melee classes will be fucked. this is a big deal for world of warcraft since auto attack is the main thing for this game. the talent trees in MoP will mainly contain pvp spells. no auto attack works for swtor but will not work for wow. say goodbye to wow forever!
@TheBearstep auto attack for warrior affects = 15-30 rage given per swing,auto attack is a huge part of your damage in wow :) you cant regen rage without auto attack. hunter auto attack is also very important. look at Mists of Pandaria on facebook and you see how much it sucks.
@Brookie9187 i think it is just more hot keys. wow only has 12 non modded so it looks like their will ether be a LOT of abilitys (like wow) or you cant change the interface with mods (you can in wow).
Liniar gameworld wich is suprising since the license really gave them alot of room to create alternative 'worlds'. Voice acting is not spectacular, combat is faceroll, lack of character customization (looks, stats and 'builds'). The only saving grace is the story and it's "star wars" wich has a big fanbase to begin with, and there are many people just tired of WoW.
It's essencially a sp-rpg that requires a sub, 1/4 will quit after 1st month.
£8.99 a month. Fuck this. Does not even look that special. I will wait for guild wars 2. And you may think that if you pay for 6 months it is allot cheaper. If you dedicate yourself to 6 months it is only reduced to £7.60 a month. So greedy.
@Azwar3 Yes, curse them for wanting to make back the 100-300 million dollars to make this game. I'll gladly pay for this over WoW, and I'm going to play GW2 as well. GW2 is going to make you pay for content much like GW1, rather than monthly. You really won't pay less for GW2 than SWTOR if you want all the content, you should really make research before commenting like that.
@filiduttisen I played GW1 a lot and only ever paid for the expansions. It is an incredible amount cheaper than wow which i also played a lot, ignorant to say otherwise. lets say its cost 200 million to make the game, and they get 3 million subs. $14.99 a month from each person. That's $44,970,000 a month they make might take them 5 months to get there $200,000,000 back. And then they continue to get that much in after that.
@Azwar3 Do you think it's free having hundreds of employees working daily for the company? Do you think it's free to keep servers online for 3,000,000 subcribers? Do you think it's free to keep software running 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? Not to mention the rent where they have their office, information storage, online services and online security programs. Of course they make a profit otherwise there would be no game. But don't think it's free and cash is just flowing in :)
@Gormis93 they make huge profits if they hit the right number of players. This is why so many company's are trying, i agree a lot failed that's only because there games were not good enough. To be honest this is just going to turn into a argument where you like, 'They don't make allot of money because of this this and this' and then im gonna say ' Look at all the money they are getting in its a huge amount' and the argument would go on forever. So this is meaningless.

If this game was $29 and no fees it would be an ok game. But for the price and a sub, this game is a non-starter for me. Just a WOW clone with extra bells and whistles.
@Realpeopleneverpost Both this game and GW2 will be less of a WoWclone than what WoW was once a EQclone. Think a little before commenting. I can safely say that SW:TOR has a lot of potential, even if the gameplay is similar to WoW as both are hotkey MMO's. If that is what you are tired of you will have to wait for GW2 I'm afraid, since they will introduce a few more additions that break it out from being your kind of "clone". SWTOR is more of a RPGMMO than a MMORPG.

So.... the councilor has the exact same spells up to level 11 as the sorcerer... but they have different animations and names, bioware being lazy much?
@KHfanz They are essentially the same class, but they bothered to give them a different feel through animations and name. Paladins for horde and alliance are the same. See the difference? Also, the Consular is the same as the Inquisitor. It is the Sage that = Sorcerer. What is Blizzard with their lack of it? Spells with the same effect that have different animations to make the same class feel different depending on faction is a good thing.

Secondly, at least blizzard had the common decency to make 8 or however many classes they have and make them distinguished from each other instead of giving the players 4, with 4 clones that have different color fire. Honestly, I feel that SWTOR is essentially a new coat of paint for WoW. As a person who played WoW for 5 years and quit the start of this year, honestly the main drag of the game was just the monotony of the game. SWTOR will hopefully revitilize this.
Totalfail here is only supporting this game because it can compete with wow. He hates ANYTHING to do in wow once it was found out he was a hardcore player that as just terrible at the game.
@easyta4 Actually is itsn’t. Beta is over, this is the early access thing they are doing for their pre-orders. In other words; this is the final build of the game.
Once you start adding on tons of abilities, then you run into what you ran into in WoW: Nerfs, balance issues, bias, favoritism of classes, community forum crying, etc.
As somebody who generally prefers fantasy settings over sci fi I don't see any reason to switch from wow to this. Pretty much the exact same gameplay but with a different setting.
Hopefully guild wars2 keeps to its promise of being a new style of mmo. I'm getting sick of this style tbh.
@Eatmybologna I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2 too, but I think I will try this, for the simple fact that i'm bored of WoW, although I will start again when MoP comes out cause I love the idea of playing a monk. It's nice to have a good choice of high quality MMOs out there though.
@nomrandom1 dude...first CoD, now wow...can ANY popular games not get criticized? there was a reason it was so huge, it was fun, enthralling at times, had cool zones, and for a certain amount of time, an addictive end game. yes i have gotten bored and therfor quit, but i know it wasnt a bad game. period. neither is CoD. they just bore me now. @Brookie9187 i think it is just more hot keys. wow only has 12 non modded so it looks like their will ether be a LOT of abilitys (like wow) or you cant change the interface with mods (you can in wow).

Is swtor a good game ? Yes.
Is it a good MMO ? NO.
Liniar gameworld wich is suprising since the license really gave them alot of room to create alternative 'worlds'. Voice acting is not spectacular, combat is faceroll, lack of character customization (looks, stats and 'builds'). The only saving grace is the story and it's "star wars" wich has a big fanbase to begin with, and there are many people just tired of WoW.
It's essencially a sp-rpg that requires a sub, 1/4 will quit after 1st month.

@Azwar3 Yes, curse them for wanting to make back the 100-300 million dollars to make this game. I'll gladly pay for this over WoW, and I'm going to play GW2 as well. GW2 is going to make you pay for content much like GW1, rather than monthly. You really won't pay less for GW2 than SWTOR if you want all the content, you should really make research before commenting like that.

@filiduttisen I played GW1 a lot and only ever paid for the expansions. It is an incredible amount cheaper than wow which i also played a lot, ignorant to say otherwise. lets say its cost 200 million to make the game, and they get 3 million subs. $14.99 a month from each person. That's $44,970,000 a month they make might take them 5 months to get there $200,000,000 back. And then they continue to get that much in after that.

Do you think it's free to keep software running 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? @Realpeopleneverpost Both this game and GW2 will be less of a WoWclone than what WoW was once a EQclone. Think a little before commenting. I can safely say that SW:TOR has a lot of potential, even if the gameplay is similar to WoW as both are hotkey MMO's. If that is what you are tired of you will have to wait for GW2 I'm afraid, since they will introduce a few more additions that break it out from being your kind of "clone". SWTOR is more of a RPGMMO than a MMORPG.

@KHfanz They are essentially the same class, but they bothered to give them a different feel through animations and name. Paladins for horde and alliance are the same. See the difference? Also, the Consular is the same as the Inquisitor. It is the Sage that = Sorcerer. What is Blizzard with their lack of it? Spells with the same effect that have different animations to make the same class feel different depending on faction is a good thing.

Secondly, at least blizzard had the common decency to make 8 or however many classes they have and make them distinguished from each other instead of giving the players 4, with 4 clones that have different color fire. What bioware did is essentially pissing on people and calling it rain...

Honestly, I feel that SWTOR is essentially a new coat of paint for WoW. As a person who played WoW for 5 years and quit the start of this year, honestly the main drag of the game was just the monotony of the game. SWTOR will hopefully revitilize this.

As somebody who generally prefers fantasy settings over sci fi I don't see any reason to switch from wow to this. Pretty much the exact same gameplay but with a different setting.
Hopefully guild wars2 keeps to its promise of being a new style of mmo. I'm getting sick of this style tbh.
