Hey I'm looking to start riding for the first time in the next couple of months but I have no idea what type of bike or how much power a first time rider like myself should start at. Can somebody help me out thanks =D
I ride a harley now, but i wish buell still made bikes for sale. Then I could have my hd for easy relaxed rides and the buell for when I go hit the canyons with my friends. Hope they have luck with EBR maybe theyll come back.
buell is trying to take a shot at the japinese sport bikes with this ogre? i know the hayabusa isnt the most sexy bike out there but i find the looks of this bike hidious.
Got my '09 CR back in December '09 ... I will never *ever* sell this bike. Absolutely fantastic, especially with the aftermarket can ;) Helicon sounds like the devil's war cry.
Tough to be overly nationalistic is this age of global finance. For instance,Chrysler was owned by Germans 1998-2007 (Daimler), now controlled by Italians (Fiat). Mopar German? NOT!
ALL manufacturers including Harley outsource SOME parts from abroad. Rotax (Austria) is owned by Canadians (BRP of Ski/Sea-Doo fame), so I guess you could say Buell is at least North American!
If you don't like Canada either, I'll have to come down and beat you with my beaver.
Buell seems to favour function over form, and likes his bikes to be distinctive. The CR look fits every requirement for a cafe racer, and still manages to be unique. I think he takes GREAT pride in his work. Those scoops are integral with a partially hollow frame for cooling and ram air for power. They also cost only a few bucks compared to the parts they will save in the event the bike goes over.
Whether you LIKE the look is purely subjective - some love it, some hate it.
@backintack The reason they are not, is because Harley didn't want to down size, and they fucked up, by making to many Harleys (then the recession hit) so they binned Buell... I hate them for doing it!!!! Buell were world leaders in technological advancement in the motorcycle business (frame design, under bike exhaust, all the centre of gravity ethos etc) now the the modern super-bikes of today have followed suit. But the stupid oversized out-dated Harleys are still been made WTF. SHAME :-(

I will never understand how Buell released such an poorly thought out design, a ugly bike. HD had no choice as dealers could not stock anymore of these. This is the first positive review I have seen.
To put it all to rest regarding the early bad reviews:
The early 1125R had low rpm driving issues due to improper calibration in the fuel/spark software - the early bikes were not impressive in their driveability, but they were in their handling. Solution? All the early bikes got was a new ECM flash - night and day difference! Smooth low end, better fuel economy. Subsequent bikes had no such problems. 390 lbs wet, 130ish RWHP, makes it a monster - eats most in the straights AND corners!
To make things clear, Buell hasn't gone out of business. H-D decided that Buell did not fit in their business plan and shut them down. There's a huge difference. It is an outrage. I hope H-D the worst. Buell was the only innovative product they had.
@RickOAA H-D decided that since Buell had never made any money since launch, it wouldn't really make sense to keep funding them. I too wish they hadn't dropped them
@germankid93: That is very inaccurate, At the time of their closing Buell was their fastest growing market segment and they had been funding their own projects for years. Steve Anderson wrote an article for Cycle World titled The Demise of Buell that explains the story. It was a decision to strengthen H-D's image, not finances. H-D's own financial wing shot them in the foot years ago. That was the true root of their troubles. They took a huge loss offing Buell and now MV.
@RickOAA that's actually not highly inaccurate since it's coming from someone I know who is pretty deep in the Harley chain of employees. Yeah H-D did shoot themselves in the foot years ago and then shot themselves in the foot again when they fired a large majority of their staff, but still left a lot of the stupid people to work. I'm almost positive you're wrong that H-D tossed Buell for trying to change their image because right H-D is trying to replicate the exact image Buell had a la XR1200
@germankid93: The XR and Buells are not nearly comparable IMO. Harley was tasked only with marketing and selling Buell, both jobs of which they did poorly. The official press release: The fact is we must focus both our effort and our investment on the Harley-Davidson brand, as we believe this provides an optimal path to sustained, meaningful, long-term growth. We believe we can create a bright long-term future for our stakeholders through a single-minded focus on the Harley-Davidson brand.
@RickOAA well from the point of view of the majority of Harley (not Buell) owners the XR is Harley's own version of a Buell. Harley was also tasked with funding Buell since Harley kind of owned Buell, While Harley may have done a very poor job at marketing Buell, the fact is that Harley dumped large amounts of money into Buell. Harley saying they want to "focus effort and investment on Harley" means they don't want to keep spending money on a company that doesn't make any money back.
@germankid93: Well, then, if that is your stance then all I can tell you is to read the book or any insider article written on the situation. Harley hasn't made any large investment into Buell since buying a majority stake in the late 90's,
@germankid93 Buell not making money is crap though, lots of buells sold, and the stealerships sold their typical overpriced merchandise to buell riders too. A buell riding suit was overpriced just like a harley one, and they got to sell generic oil and filters with the HD name on it and charge people 40 or 50 bucks for a simple oil change, and 65 dollars an hour for service. All the buell manuals say bring it to a HD dealer and only use HD products in and on the bike.
@hzuiel just because something is priced over dealer invoice doesn't mean the company makes money. The amount of money that company spends to develop and produce the product still has to be eclipsed by the money made from selling products and service and that did not happen with Buell.
@germankid93 I know exactly what is involved in turning a profit and it's still horse crap. There is no way that buell was losing money when using many parts from HD's stockpile and in the final years, buying engines from rotax. Plus the RD that was done, often benefitted HD because it presented ways to improve their own engines and spawned patents which could have been utilized to gain an advantage over competition or leased to other companies for production rights.
@hzuiel There is a way because I've seen their margins and the were losing money. Also I'm sure Harley never thought of using that technology on their own bikes or leasing it out because they're fucking stupid
@germankid93 Agreed on the second point, but I'd like to see these numbers you're talking about. Numbers can lie though, companies shift stuff around for their own nefarious purposes all the time. They could easily hide the money brought in by buell merchandising and the money made by their dealerships servicing buells. There's just been a huge strike at verizon over trying to slash employee benefits, because they claimed their landline service is losing money, when in reality they are using
@germankid93 those landlines as the backbone of their wireless network, which is profiting massively. Not to mention fios and dsl internet sales. They're playing a shell game with their numbers to make it look like they can't afford to pay their employees the agreed upon wage the unions already negotiated, and was agreed upon. Buell could be no different. I've found from being a buell owner, that most of them are loyal customers, who HD pissed all over.
@germankid93 Facts are Harleys make the company a lot of money, they are over sized, and over priced but dumb middle age men buy them because number 1: they think are going to look cool, and relive their youth number 2: because middle class, middle aged guys can afford them, number 3: they don't want a machine to go fast through corners, just want a bike that goes in a straight line, makes a lot of noise, and did i mention "makes them look cool" The recession hit Harley, Harley fucked off Buell!
@fryloc359 If they were properly supported to begin with they would've been much better off. H-D always showed quite a bit of restraint in not fully allowing Erik to spread his wings. Buell was offed right before they unveiled what would've been their first sport bike with main stream appeal.
@fryloc359 Why? there are many HD dealers that sell other bikes that aren't even associated. The HD dealer around here is also an authorized bmw motorcycle dealer. Most car dealerships sell at least two brands of cars, like ford and toyota, or kia and hyundai. I think HD had a good idea when they realized that the younger generation is growing away from cruiser bikes and brought erik buell back on board to make bikes. Somehow they forgot about that good idea and shat all over everything.
These bikes are amazing! I got to ride one not too long ago and coming from my Suzuki GSX600F to that thing was like night and day! The Buell has soooooo much power!!
anyone know what the deal is with these bikes and the Swiss? thinking about getting one before me and some mates go on a bit of a tour through Europe, find some good roads which means riding through Switzerland. i know their fussy about noise, and these bikes aren't exactly discreet.
I want to see Buell make an equivalent to the 1198. It's well within their capabilities and it would really do wonders for them. Rather than competing with 600s, the 1125 engine needs to be doing battle with 1000s.
Plenty of people ride Buells in Europe. In fact, buells sold better in Europe than in the states. There are move aftermarket parts for buells sold in Europe than anywhere else. Idiot!
Nah, quite a few people got small registration plates on their bikes in Britain, only thing is you get £60 fines every time you get stopped by the police :/ speed cameras cant read them, so I'd rather get fined 60 quid than loose my license for speeding :D
Strange looking machine, but guess what, I won't be looking at it when I ride it. I demo'ed this thing and it was the smoothest and best handling bike ever.
Nice bike but they need to increase the budget on these videos a bit. They are soo basic good god.
I love Buells though. All American designed and built, arguably the best engine available for a motorcycle, and overall a great company with CEO Erik Buell at the helm. I can't wait to sell my ninja and grab an XB 12.
so funny...uhh, yeah.."you are a fucking bitch..." and all the other verbal injuries. Do you think you will touch me with this stupid phrases? you only underline my opinions about americans ;-) thanks for the confirmation ;-))))

Have you ever heard Buell would has won any award, any cup?, perhaps in show cases, such as every american vehicel - nothing but hot air... and ugly bikes... go back to usa, no one needs you, no one wants you, no one asked for you... the last good thing you have done was to rescue from the nazis....but this is over 60 years ago...
youre a real winner, there guy. Bet youve never set foot on a bike in the first place. what difference does it make if Buell has won any awards or cups? How would that make you a better rider?
Good Lord, all this name calling. Pointless. Enjoy riding whatever you like; one thing is for sure, Buell gets better every year. Could it be that Buell thinks outside the box the other manufacturers like to live in?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The reason the guy never touched down the foot-pegs is because the bike can't be leaned over far enough. You could see the bike wobbling all over the track every time they went around a turn. I would like to see one of these pieces of american junk to even try running with a Japanese 600cc sport bike, (which by the way cost $2500- $3000 less). What a load of crap on two wheels! I've riden a Buell and they are pretty much a harley feeling sport bike, and that's a huge insult! Harley-Junk=Buell!
they just compared the 1125r to the kawi 600, and it was faster on the track. yes its ugly but it still performs. why bother leaving comments if its negative and you arent even basing it on any facts.
for the price of this bike you get two Z750, one in green and one in black...thereofore is not worth the investment value for money. and also you want to sell it after a while you´ll get not even to buy yourself a damm bier. Sorry but in europe is like this.
Thats fine. You can Keep your Japanese, Italian, and all the other crap out there. Buells ride better than anything made on the planet. Ride one you will buy one Guaranteed!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Are you american? Only that can explain such sad comment. Read again...I was not saying nothing about bad riding, what I said is that it has a quite high price.
Anyone that says a buell doesnt handle well has no idea what they are talking about and has obviously never thrown a leg over one, dont bother talking trash about something you dont know any thing about. Why did the buell beat the duc 1098 in the battle of the twins?
Hacete coger(and a little ESPANOL-proper spelling) I see you consulted your proper english grammer and sentence construction book you douchebag(Francais). Now you are claiming to be an intellectual? LMAO that is funny! Why is that because you made some ignorant comments about motorcycles? You are the typical German.
Haha... burnouts and straight roads... like american foreign policy... head ahead with a roar....
yes indeed, european Bikes are nothing for fat dull americans, cause they are build for curve hunt and sportive driving... sell your iron heap, buy a Duc or triumph and you will see what real motorcycles are made for ;-)
And what exactly is German foreign policy? To sit on your pompous asses and do nothing while sucking France's ass? Yea, kind of like a BMW bike. Learn how to construct a sentence in English Dieter. And who are you calling dull? Germans are the most boring people on Earth. Kind of like a BMW bike.
Ich sprach von europäischen Motorrädern. Genaues Lesen hilft ungemein im Verständnis einer getätigten Aussage. Aber Amerikaner hören sowieso immer nur, was sie verstehen wollen ;-)

Oh now i 'va driven one - oh it's so fantastic, it's so brilliant, such a great bike, such a Marvallous manufacturer - All americans for president, ah, bah, all americans for the leaders of the universe!!!! you are the one and only folk - chosen by god himself - Amen!
And i will sell my hypermotard and my Vmax immediately to buy a Buell xb9sxkf8tka2zle4oh - yes indeed!
this is wat i notice to European bikes, they love to put more CC on a 2 cylinder V-TWIN engines... which is amazing, amazing in a way if u want to imagine the size of that piston! hehehe.. but i still like to roar of the Japanese bikes than Europeans.
if hes had it for three years and breaks down every month, he should have bought a warranty, If he does have one, he should of complained a lot more, a lot earlier. I'm pretty sure they don't want to loose a valuable customer due to perhapspe a lemon motorcycle...
You're right, Americans only make some of the most innovative features. And not to mention make bikes that are constantly being copied(who started cruisers again? Oh yeah Harley). Yeah Americans can't make bikes.

Hey JOBIEB what do you ride? u fuckin faggot! why dont u grow a thing called a cock and go fuck yourself! thats all i gotta say i wont waste anymore fuckin time on you.
oh my god, this bike is amazing. looks so much better than the full faring version although that huge nose on the original model would definitely help out top speed.
An 1125 is a bit too big for me - I'm not into bikes for crazy performance or anything.
But I've gotta say, that bike is so fucking sick looking. It's... Jesus.

The reason this bike is half-way decent is the Austrian-built engine. Before that Buell couldn't do squat with his motors.

The new CEO of HD came over from Flow Masters. One of the only things he knew how to do for their shareholders is to shut Buell down.
It's a shame Eric Buell and HD finally get a bike to win at superbikes.
I love the power range of this bike, awesome, and american made!!

But why did he make it so ugly? Take pride in your work.

I'm so glad that I don't have to put one of those huge freakin' Euro license plates on my bike! Lol
nieseba2 2 years ago
Nah, quite a few people got small registration plates on their bikes in Britain, only thing is you get £60 fines every time you get stopped by the police :/ speed cameras cant read them, so I'd rather get fined 60 quid than loose my license for speeding :D

This bike is sexy.

Strange looking machine, but guess what, I won't be looking at it when I ride it. I demo'ed this thing and it was the smoothest and best handling bike ever.

i love it. I Drove it on zandvoort and i really enjoyed it. Fantastic Bike.

Have you ever heard Buell would has won any award, any cup?, perhaps in show cases, such as every american vehicel - nothing but hot air... and ugly bikes... go back to usa, no one needs you, no one wants you, no one asked for you... the last good thing you have done was to rescue from the nazis....but this is over 60 years ago...
vevaxx 2 years ago
well you just made your country really proud. wherever your from.
God bless

youre a real winner, there guy.

The reason the guy never touched down the foot-pegs is because the bike can't be leaned over far enough. You could see the bike wobbling all over the track every time they went around a turn. I would like to see one of these pieces of american junk to even try running with a Japanese 600cc sport bike, (which by the way cost $2500- $3000 less). What a load of crap on two wheels! I've riden a Buell and they are pretty much a harley feeling sport bike, and that's a huge insult! Harley-Junk=Buell!
Georgenfla 3 years ago
they just compared the 1125r to the kawi 600, and it was faster on the track. yes its ugly but it still performs. why bother leaving comments if its negative and you arent even basing it on any facts.

I thought it was a Rotax engine, not a Helicon?
ShortySIG552 3 years ago
rotax is the manufacturer but the design is called helicon at 72 degrees well balanced

for the price of this bike you get two Z750, one in green and one in black...thereofore is not worth the investment value for money. and also you want to sell it after a while you´ll get not even to buy yourself a damm bier. Sorry but in europe is like this.
hagaxxx 3 years ago
Thats fine. You can Keep your Japanese, Italian, and all the other crap out there. Buells ride better than anything made on the planet. Ride one you will buy one Guaranteed!!

YAMERHAMMER08 3 years ago 2
Anyone that says a buell doesnt handle well has no idea what they are talking about and has obviously never thrown a leg over one, dont bother talking trash about something you dont know any thing about. Why did the buell beat the duc 1098 in the battle of the twins?

Haha... burnouts and straight roads... like american foreign policy... head ahead with a roar....
yes indeed, european Bikes are nothing for fat dull americans, cause they are build for curve hunt and sportive driving... sell your iron heap, buy a Duc or triumph and you will see what real motorcycles are made for ;-)
vevaxx 3 years ago
And what exactly is German foreign policy? To sit on your pompous asses and do nothing while sucking France's ass? Yea, kind of like a BMW bike. Learn how to construct a sentence in English Dieter. And who are you calling dull? Germans are the most boring people on Earth. Kind of like a BMW bike.

Learn a foreign Language ;-))))

this is wat i notice to European bikes, they love to put more CC on a 2 cylinder V-TWIN engines... which is amazing, amazing in a way if u want to imagine the size of that piston! hehehe.. but i still like to roar of the Japanese bikes than Europeans.

my dad has a Buell Cyclone... after having it for 3yrs its broken day atleast once every month and he has to get it serviced each time.
hot bike but bullshit.
ridethatslapthat 3 years ago
buellshit?
if hes had it for three years and breaks down every month, he should have bought a warranty, If he does have one, he should of complained a lot more, a lot earlier. I'm pretty sure they don't want to loose a valuable customer due to perhapspe a lemon motorcycle...

americans cant make motorcycles
Zlaja16 3 years ago
You're right, Americans only make some of the most innovative features. And not to mention make bikes that are constantly being copied(who started cruisers again? Oh yeah Harley). Yeah Americans can't make bikes.
Stick to your rice shit.
aaandht 3 years ago
a motorcycle needs to do three things well to be classed as anything other than a pile of junk.
1. go like the clappers.
2. stop faster than a nun in a compromising position
3. turn.
Its a pity harley-D's have never been able to do anything than #1
synkronyk 3 years ago
3 things would actually be
1. does the buyer rider like it?
2.can he/she afford it?
3.go like the clappers, stop faster than a nun in a compromising position, turn!
