This is fantastic! My sisters were really into Banarama when I was growing up and I can remember them watching this show in the late 80s. Great stuff.
Dude what's with these people? They're interviewing Leigh Bowery and they keep showing some videos. What's with their attitudes too... It almost seems like they feel uncomfortable with him being there. Don't waste this man's time, if you truly don't want to interview him.
@hattersuffa It was a video show AND chat show ... and the hosts were pop stars & celebs each week. The awkwardness was part of the fun. I think you're over-analysing it a bit. Bananarama were the huge stars then -- not Leigh Bowery (who was virtually unknown until well after his death).
@bunnytube: Is this for real? I've never seen such. To each their own I guess.... Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, it's just.....just..... so ridiculous....
I agree with Bunny. Sarah and Jacquie's body language says they adore him. Its just the format of the show which is super lite. He doesnt belong on this piece of mere merchandising yet here he is anyway. That speaks volumes about either the show's producers or Bananarama, and Leigh. I would love to know who's programming decision it was to have him on.
I had the great honour of knowing leigh bowery and I hate the way banarama are treating him here he was an exceptional person and no-one will ever replace him, he's certainly holding his tongue cos he has class and they haven't
Jacquie's facial expression from 6:26 to 6:30 is so funny! It's her 'why the fuck did I ever say yes to joining these 2 idiots' group' moment of realisation.
Right ... I don't disagree with any of that. They needed a third member to make it into the record books (as a group instead of a duo) -- Jacquie was chosen by Karen & Sara but Siobhan as well. Indeed, Siobhan & Jacquie are still friends to this day and have an intertwining circle of friends in Soho and in the industry.
Well, I said I don't disagree ... I do disagree with the assertion that I need to do some Nana research. I am up for a Nana Trivia throwdown any time, Sir!
ohhh that short haired one is a right bitch! ughh horrid and theres leigh... being polte at all times! i would love to hear what he actually thinks about her! Love Leigh!
love Leigh! Thanks 4 the info on the Bananarama girls! I also so looooove Shakespeare's sister...what an incredible album with "Stay"....love it love it love it love it!!
Siobhan Fahey (who left the Nanas to form Shakespear's Sister in 1988) was born in Ireland to Irish parents but moved to England by age two. Her mate Jacquie O'Sullivan [in the video)] took Siobhan's place for a few years before Keren & Sara carried on as a duo (1992).
He looks like a sweetheart, I remember seeing him on TV when I was about 10 in a similar costume and being fascinated by the lack of nose! Wish he was still around, I wonder what he'd be offering nowadays.
That actually is pretty cool...and a nice use of the 'Bowery Barb' that we know is lurking behind that deceptively sweet demeanour he adopted whilst in conversation with Bananarama...
f*ck you very much - he was a star - I danced with him at an illagal warehouse party in Osaka in 1990 - Him in powder, rainbow 70's platforms, a green flannel fig leaf and pierced mouth - me in a Commes des Garcons grey wool suit (I just got off work) - he was bitchy, sweet and brilliant.
