Alan Moore worked with DC, actually "Watchmen" was planned to involve the real characters, but due to shenanigans it turned out like this: Nite owl = Batman. Rorschach = The question. Dr. Manhattan = Captain Atom. etc.

If you have read the comic (and i doubt you even heard of it but whatever) you find out that they're are some of the best written characters in comic history (and thats saying something)
