Takes me back to my era. I totaly agree with the first comment. The song is the most important thing not how little there wearing as in their latest song DVDs of today. All I know about any of the femail singers is how little they dress, dont know any of their hits. But the old songs stand out bfor there content. Thanks for the up loading, D.
This guy was a phenomenal songwriting talent. When I hear what passes for talent nowadays, it makes me sick. The only exception I have heard among black artistes is Corrine Bailey Rae.
Britains answer to Sam Cooke visually & vocally. Labi has a voice like an angel and his songwriting talents are second to none. You won't find a more outspoken person on Earth on the issue of human rights. Saw him first in a Soho jazz combo "Safari" in 1966 (he only played jazz guitar back then). This man deserved to've been on the recent Mandela concert list. Instead we got Amy Winehouse.(Yikes!)
That guy in the beginning is so creepy lol, "Loooove". I like this video, I hadn't heard about this guy until Kanye West did a song called "I Wonder" on his Graduation album. Its good
olivedrag; There was a certain cheesy innocence portrayed back in 1970...almost like 'Sesame Street' at times. But today this innocence is lost and is replaced by in your face arrogance/attitude/rudeness. We're forced to grow up too fast. We see the effects in society. I never thought i'd say it but i actually miss 1970. Long live Labi!
Thank you Tony! My Best Wishes to you. Most people on here say the complete reverse. Sorry for the longwinded comments 'thecatkeaton'. This is a SUPERB video.
Due to the TV advert being shown on UK TV, it brought back great memories of Labi Siffre's performances back in the early 70's. I bought one of his albums, and love his lyrics. Great to see and hear this video. Does anyone know what he is doing these days?
LEDEB; Labi was an enigma back in London around 1970 Most black singers were either reggae stars or slick soul singers...THEN along came this ordinary baby faced guy, openly gay, no pretense whatsoever with lyrics made in Heaven. Labi opened the way for performers like Joan Armatrading. A more powerful human activist for peace and unity you won't find. God Bless him!
Just found this wonderful reminder of early 70's music. I saw Labi in 1971 or 1972 in Southampton. In amongst all the other wonderful music of the time I feel he was pushed out to the sidelines. Now I fully appreciate the universality of his poetry and music
I founded Labi Siffre thanks to Kanye West. He sampled Labi's My Song and made his own I wonder... I think that genuine song is way better than Kanye's I wonder... Labi is magic... I can't stop listening his song... I'm addicted:)
Fantastic!! Please please please send me a copy. Been a fan for over 30 years, have all his albums, singles etc and met him once but never seen this clip before. Magic. Thanks so much for listing it.
does he stil record.. im 28 and remmeber 'somethin inside' back in the 80s i was a kid but we sang it in school.. i think im a fan now!! where csn i found his material?

The great thing about the Madness cover was that it respected the original while also making something different out of it - both brilliant

Labi Siffre was actually in the Madness video for the cover. Near the end of the video he makes an obvious cameo singing along to the song.
