  • 14 people are clearly not born Before 1999 !!! how can you not like this groove

  • This is why so many Brothers got killed in Vietnam. Every time someone shouted "GET DOWN!" they started dancing like Kool and the Gang!!

  • luv the brutha in the cuffed jeans and platforms. the oufit talkin´.sista doin´the robot. king of pop. used to love the couple at 2.04-2:08. they were my favorite couple before jody and jeffrey. what are theír names?

  • det er stilen forhelvede

  • The girl from 0:17-0:30 is the best Soul Train line dancer EVER!

  • ....Dig them shoes!! and the way evreyone dances! =)

  • I don't believe this is 1973. Maybe 1976 or 1977. DON'T CHEAT! :)

ps.: black dudes were so hot in the 1970s...

Today they suck hell with all that hip hop shit

  • Love it!

  • thing like make me love being human being, brother :)

  • pair of bananas at 0:49

  • back in the days when EVERYONE DANCED!!!!!!!!

  • @DAS603 - Yes he was!!!

  • HARDLY NO OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE BACK THEN, THEY DANCED ALL THEIR WEIGHT OFF EVERYDAY

  • @bronxchica777 - And the dancing was fun and not erotic!!

  • ETERNO ET INFINITO

  • This show makes me wish I had been born 20 years earlier so I would have been able to grow up during that era. It's almost a joke to us now, but to see all that then must have been mind blowing. The world must have seemed wide open for anything during that era.

  • @35mmfreak stop trollin playing sport ain't bad for you being active help people be a better students and learn socials skills.

  • Oh my god them platform shoes....

  • @35mmfreak I hate to be picky but fast food was everywhere at this time; I know, because I ate it then as a kid. Families did eat together more. The past always looks better on reflection and overall it wasn't the greatest but it was certainly better than today's culture and entertainment wise.

  • Miss the days when, as a young white dweeb from white middle class hell, I used to sneak watching this on TV so that my parents didn't find out and ground me. (shudder).

RIP Don Cornelius. BTW, American Bandstand sucked compared to SOUL TRAIN. Choo Choo!

  • oh man, 0:08-0:17 - trains could stop at those platforms!

  • LOL...Those platforms shoes....No way could i walk in 'em let alone dance in 'em

  • this is one of my favorite line dances from Soul Train. I can't get over those shoes. I can barely walk in heels. Gotta give him props. I like the first lady's midriff baring dress.

  • Man. That first guy has some *gigantic* platform boots. Props to him for being able to dance in those things.

  • The guy @1:40 looks like my baby daddy.lol

  • At 2:33 is the girl to the left Dee from What's Happening?!!

  • gosh i love being black!

  • At 1:50 the original Snoop Dogg :)) haha really cool.

  • Omg lol 2:42 who thought that woman got kicked in the head?! haha

  • I like the outfit of the very first guy coming down the line in the black jacket. And I especially LOVE his HUGE platform shoes. Those shoes look like they're at least 10 inches tall.

  • @vidform Yeah he must be a short dude! Dang, man!!

  • RIP,Mr.Cornelius. He brought Black dance, fashion and culture into the mainstream and without his impact,a lot of artists would've had no such exposure.

    A true pioneer and legend.

  • those were the days

    red bank ,n.j.

  • Thanks to the Don for a special and fun show. Every Sat @ 11am in my neighborhood you knew where your child was. Afro Sheen and Polyester, what a combo :) Everyone looks so skinny, must have been pre-McDonalds.

  • I'm trying my best to re-create the feelings, the love of Black folk by Black folk and welcoming anyone else's love who chooses to love us, rather than to hate us. I'm Beax Rivers, author of Silver: Currents of Change (Amazon.com). This book is the first of a collection called "Tales from the Quarters." Stories from the Black communities (fiction) of the nation, reminiscent of a time gone by ... even though they're modern day!

  • its a sin to go down the Soul Train line and not cut loose and be yourself..Black People really need to step it up once again, and save the world of all this techneological crap of today.

  • I love Soul Train. Don C., R.I.P. Love, peace and soul!!!

  • love Soul Train.....

  • To everyone who remembers what made Saturday mornings in the 70's and 80's so special:

Don Cornelius was 'our' Dick Clark, and Soul Train was 'our' American Bandstand. Although both of these men are legendary and that is without question; Don was a pioneer who put Black dance and fashion into America's living rooms. He gave exposure to soul singers and musicians who were only limited to radio play. He gave us so much.

I miss Soul Train...but I'm going to miss Don even more. RIP my friend.

  • imma have to steal some of those moves

  • those were the shoes gaga wore and fell..not so original now eh gaga?

  • So would they like practice at home, or did it just come natural to black people those days.

  • @b52goats sometimes practicing at home. Sometimes outside the studio, in the line waiting to get in or you did just what the hell you felt.

  • as much as they could have got down to this classic funk jam, this Soul Train line was really...unfunky.

  • In the loving memory of Don Cornelius. We had bet our last money, it was a Stone Gas, in Parting Rest In Peace, Love And Soul.

  • Is that Barack Obama's mom at 1:45?

  • The guy's shoes at 0:09 are UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Lovin this clip..reminds me of Saturday mornings...

  • 12 people were born with no FUNK!

  • the guy in the green shirt at 2:05 ... classic lol

  • @XanosKnyghtshade

Sharon and Tyrone. They competed in the American Bandstand dance contest and won! Showed 'em who's boss!

  • everyone is so skinny, cept one guy.

  • I know you're out there somewhere Don and I want to thank you for giving us moments like this that truly reinvented the word "cool."

Rest in Peace, Love and SOUL!

  • After watching these shows. These women were HOT. I got jungle fever and dated black women and am now married to one.

  • i wish i lived in those times :d ! :(

  • @TheUnknowKING I'm so sorry, u really miss out on a treat. It was the best of times being young & just having fun. The music was better, the food, most of the ppl, there were a few AH's in the mix & the clothe were cool, the world wasn't so judgemental. We just knew we were pyt's & mack daddies, only thing I don't miss r those hard sole shoes that ruin my feet 4 life w/calluses & bunions. UGH!

  • @misumike25 I live in Philly and not along ago, on the subway, some old dude in a wheelkchair got on, pulled out a mic, and said he was an old O'Jay and started singing Love Train. I wasn't the only one with tears streaming down my face as that whole car remembered how much better we all used to treat each other.

  • I FEEL SO LEFT OUT !!! LOL

  • I remember that era in the 70's well. Soul Train was one of my fave shows and when The Best of Soul Train aired in 2007,those memories came back. Don Cornelius was a pioneer/visionary who thought out of the box and made his show more than a Black American Bandstand. There was no one like him,he was one of a kind.

  • Don Cornelius!!! TV pioneer/visionary.....funked black teenagers right into the homes of white middle America's living room every Saturday. One of my BEST teenage memories...You were TRULY a social sculptor and changed the culture........for the better!

    Rest In Peace.............

  • LOVE PEACE SOUL

  • we will keep on jaming DC rip ;(

  • i wish i could've talked to Mr.Cornelius or even prayed w/ him.

  • Damn That time in life as well as Mr. SoulTrain himself will be forever missed R.I.P. Don Cornelius

  • That was a fucked up way to go big D but you'll be missed and thank you for all the good memories...

  • I really miss this show. Soul Train back when people didn't dance so slutty and dressed with class.

  • @jakeirako exactly. the dancing could be provocative, but never was slutty, and always creative...so unlike nowadays.

  • @ic0n29 word

  • remember that era, like Spike lee remembers in Crooklyn? when it was 'cool' to be black...great soul music, movies and sitcoms with all black casts, black consciousness, naturals, afros, the jacksons! I'm not even black. But I wish sometimes I could go back to that era and listen to that music on the radio in my room. Thanks, Don Cornelius!

  • @imajeepster "when it was 'cool' to be black"????? Gues what "not even black," It still is 'cool' to be black. What kind of dumb ass thing to say is that. The biggest racism today are the people who think they are not racist but they say dumb shit like that. Seriously.

  • @julytwentyseventh It's too bad you misunderstood and frankly, be careful about just throwing 'racist' around like it's silly string. I was referring to the culture at the time.

  • THANK YOU !

  • God Speed, Mr Cornelius and thanks for the memories from the 70's and 80's..

  • R.I,P Don

  • And you Can Bet Your Last Money...It's Gonna Be A Stone Gas Honey...Love Peace & Soouul!!!! Rest Ye In Peace Don...Rest In Peace.

    RIP Don..

  • Thank you Mr.Cornelius for Soul Train was a great show I grew up on RIP.

  • so much classier than just bumping and grinding with your ass hanging out!

  • R.I.P. Mr.Cornelius-A.K.A. The Don. He's the man with the plan. He is The Ambassador of Soul and Funk. No one else can do it better. Don has left us with great memories. Simply the best.

  • Long Pants Short Shirts < video description

  • Must give credit where credit is due. Anyone able to dance in platform shoes without breaking an ankle should be admired and respected for the next 100 years. Thanks for the best memories in the world, my Don Cornelius. R.I.P.

  • Bet your bottom money, it's gonna be a stone gas honey!

  • Oh if only the kids today could see how we got down back in the day with class.

  • RIP , You will be missed.

  • Props 2 Don Cornelius (RIP).

  • RIP The Don of Black Music - Mr. Don Cornelius. I watched your TV show every weekend without fail. Thanks for putting Black music into the living rooms across America including my own Asian American family. It started off being a show for African Americans until it become an American show - period. Soul Train was ground breaking and had the most bad ass performers on the planet.

  • What is the name of this dance?

  • RIP Mr. Cornelius you are a true legend and will be forever missed!!!!!! Much love brother!!

  • RIP DON, Feeling the love up here in Canada!

  • what a tragedy for the music community! My heart goes out to his loved ones... Pioneer in the African American Community, and America as a whole! R.I.P. Don Cornelius.

  • I was a little kid in the late 70's early 80's - my cousins and I would spend Saturdays watching American Bandstand to see the clothes ('cause those kids couldn't dance) then we'd watch Soul Train to see the moves. RIP Don, thanks for your contributions to music & television, you'll be missed.

  • watching soul train taught me how to dance

  • It's amazing how a famous tv show for dancing that was very famous like this one had lasted longer than another one called "American Bandstand". "American Bandstand" with Dick Clark was around since the 1950's. But I wasn't around in the 1950's and I was watching both American Bandstand with Dick Clark and Soul Train with Don Cornelius since the 1970's-They discontinued A.B. in the '80's, but Soul Train continued living on-Probably Soul Train became more successful than A.B..

  • i walk like that on the way in to work ;-)

  • @ :58, Biz Markie still lives in the 70's

  • Don was an absolute genius as well as an icon. I thank Don for all he accomplished. May he Rest in Peace!

  • HE WILL BE MISSED GOD BLESS

    HIM!

  • A true Icon who gave us entertainment waaaay before BET and MTV and 106 & Park. I will be watching all of my Soul Train dvd's in your honor today. R.I.P. my brotha!!!

  • I used to wake up every Saturday morning just to watch this! The dancing, fashion, and music....Don Cornelius and Soul Train inspired a culture!

  • R.I.P Don Cornelius

  • he will be missed. a true lengendary.

  • FEELING THIS! ESPECIALLY TODAY! R.I.P. Don!

  • I was watching the Soul Train awards and I only was watching it to see if Don would be there. Grew up watching Don every Sat morming. RIP KING OF COOL!

  • What a sad day...rest in peace, Don Cornelius.

  • An escape from the harsh and unfair realities of life in America for black and poor white folk.

  • I hope that there is a line dance at Don Cornelius's service!

  • @70finster got it going on in my town a tribute this friday can't wait
