  • Good video. I'm thinking of getting a HV-40.

Enjoy your pets when they're around. I had to put down my 15-year-old dog and 20-year-old cat a couple of months ago. Although it may seem like all they do is exist, the house is empty.

  • that dog is dead. halp!

  • Hey bro what settings did you use. And what did you use to render it and what rendering settings did you use? If could please. My video on my page was shot in 1080i 24f Cine Mode Rendered in Vegas 9.0 Pro... Same HV40 Camera yet your quality is smashing mine I do not understand. So if you could please clue me in. I'm on hv20.com and they aren't being of much help I feel like I'm missing something important! Thanks for taking your time to help in advance if you do.

  • LOL The dog's nose xD Awwwwwwww, perfect quality!

  • did u attach a lens or is tat just the camera's?

  • How old is your dog?

  • @matrixate 13 :)

  • Comment removed

  • Okay. Sorry for all the questions. Just wanted to make sure I'm getting a camera that can do good manual focus.

  • Never mind. I found out what it meant. Without a MFR do can you adjust the focus using the lens, or do you have to you the little switch any time to adjust it? I've never messed with any of them before, so I have no clue how they work.

  • @TheJosh2005 you have to use the litte spin wheel :)

  • lol. Okay. Well I have no clue what a MFR is, and googled it, and got nothing camera related.

  • So the camera can't do focus without the MFR? Or does the MFR just help with it?

  • @TheJosh2005 The MFR helps alot :) You can pull manual focus but its a little awckward spinning the little wheel.

  • Did you shoot this handheld? If not how did you shoot it did you use a stabilizer?

  • @TheJodoChannel All handheld and I didnt use a stabilizer :)

  • Okay, thanks! I've been looking into getting a HV40, and want to do it right when I get one. Is it easy to use the manual focus to make the background blurry, and the foreground in focus?

  • @TheJosh2005 I would recommend getting the MFR (google it) for the HV series and that will help alot to pull a nice focus!

  • Do you use an external mic with your camera? If so, what mic do you use?

  • @TheJosh2005 Yes I do use an external mike. I bought the Rode NTG-2 and am very pleased with sound quality :)

  • That dog has the easiest job in the world.

  • ouah impressionnant ce HV 40 !! Et joli chien :-)

  • Awesome video, great footage, awesome song no doubt!

  • haha your dog is amazing! lol

  • Nice footage! did you use any color correction? & does the HV-40 have manual focus?

  • @nothinglasts4forever No color correction on this one! Yes it does have manual focus :)

  • @nothinglasts4forever it does have manual focus

  • u just sold me this camera!

  • Just Bought this camera and loved watching your sweet loving dog. You are a good person can tell just by this video. I took a snap of the sunglasses shot.

  • nice video and too nice video. I like golden retrievers, because they are vray nice dogs.

  • I think WishBone did a Great job modeling for the camera. Others would charge you Thousands.

    Great job WishBone!

  • @41point2 lool!

  • i cant wait till my hv40 comes!!!! =)

  • I'm looking into getting this very same camera, you did a great job! What program did you edit with? Your dog loves bread huh!? LOL

  • Thanks! For this one I used Corel Videostudio Pro X2 (they just released the Pro X3 version) but now I'm editing on the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection.

  • I want your camera and your dog.

    Great video by the way!

  • reminds me of my dog. :P

  • Aren't dogs one of the beautiful things in the world?

Nice Video, Good Camera and Cute Dog!

  • what software do you use ? .. and also what software can i purchase that is good but not so expensive

  • I'm upgrading to the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection but I have been using Corel Videostudio 12 Pro X2. It's a realatively inexpensive nice editing software so that's what I would recommend!

  • @supersonic0000 ...thanks bro i really apprecilove the info

  • Dog food never looked so good!

  • wow!

  • wtf is wrong with that dog, go walk it

  • its laying down retard

  • It looks half dead

retard eh... ever heard of pot calling the kettle black?

If you`re going to talk shit on youtube you should use an account that doesn't have video proof of what a fruitcake you are

  • lol a fruitcake? yah that makes sence loser

  • fruitcake = slang for faggot

I shouldn't have expected you to know that, next time I'll call you a poohead so you don't get confused

  • what u think im 2 i think ur confizing me with u, y dont u shiw u face u loser douch

  • yeah you could pass as 2

  • Looks pretty old.

  • there's something about the HV20/30/40 camera's picture quality that I can't put my finger on... To me it looks more "film" like and "smoother" when compared to the newer HF S10 models... It could be perhaps that people have learned to use it better since it's been out longer? Anyone share some thoughts or inputs on this? Having a tough time choosing between the HV40 and the HF S10... I don't mean to turn this into a hdv vs avchd war

  • You might be noticing the "cine-mode" setting. Also, the HV40 records in native 24p which is the frame rate of film. But I don't know if this person recorded this in that setting.

  • omg i know its FREAKIN hard choice ...plz tell me if u get some more info or dicide wich camera to go with...

  • Fallanspel, sorry for the late reply, but I finally made up my mind to get the panasonic GH1 and I couldn't be happier. This is coming from someone on a tight budget too but if your interested on why I made my decision over that camera vs the hv30/hfs10 model, please feel free to send me a private message on youtube.

  • Awesome raw footage! I just got the HV40, and it's great! Enjoyed this lil flick!

  • This is such good footage. I just bought the Canon HV40 but I have been having capture problems. How did you capture and export? How big was the memory on this file? Did you have to compress it to get it on youtube? I want to get footage like this on youtube. Please explain how i can in details. Feel free to message me. Thanks so much!

  • What a lazy dog... I want!!

  • Nice Dog! Well trained I would say

  • I really enjoyed the video. I can't stop laughing :)

    Great quality!

  • in the HV40 CANON's tests, the video looks like cinema! But I bot one and the image isn't so fabulous.

  • you probably need to color correct it...and make sure you film in cinema mode, 24p

  • thanks. I wasn't film in the cinema mode, the picture looks like better now. But this video, the picture is so much better, probably, I nedd to color correct it, I've heard about a software to do it. THANK YOU!

  • that's an artistic choice lawl

  • I really enjoyed this more than I should have.

    Maybe I should get checked.

    Nice dog!

  • 2:14 is my favorite.

  • i wish my dog would be like that and not be running around barking. is he ok tho? i dont think its normal for a dog to be like that.

    awesome vid anyway

  • That was a very erotic film.

  • I think it needs tripod!

  • i am about to buy a camera and i was planning on buying the canon XL-1 but idk if this is better so would you think the canon XL-1 or the HV40 is better?

  • I think that you should buy hv30-hv40 because the image quality is getting better on smaller hdv cameras than old mini dv cameras. I sold my own canon xl1 few weeks ago. And im getting new hd camera soon:D

  • Did you use any special filters or lenses?

The detail is amazing even without the YouTube HD version.

  • Nope, what you see is what the camera shoot's straight out of the box! Youtube does do a good job of compressing it!

  • what size and codec u use to render? h.264?

  • Yes, I do use the H.264 codec, I uploaded it on youtube in 720p

  • so, to this date, this is the latest and greatest consumer camera for those who prefer to edit uncompressed video, correct? i mean, it's the friendliest way to go if you plan on extensive [movie] editing of your video, correct? also, which editing software compliments it the best?

  • yes and If you have a mindows then definetly vegas

if you have a mac then wither final cut pro or final cut express

  • no way man you want to go premiere and after effects all the way :D

  • those are great but I was just saying the cheaper ones

cuz adobe costs like a grand

  • Got ours for less than 1000 with a lens and mic

  • sorry horrible spelling and I didn't catch myself before I sent it off but it should have said "windows"

    and "either"

  • are u using dv or hdv and is it fire wired to ur computer?

  • is it good in macro ?

    is it stable ?

is it better than the hfs10 ?

  • what is the difference between the vixia adn the legria? thanks!

  • The Vixia is the American NTSC version, and the Legria is the Euorpean PAL version.

  • goood picture

  • Nice, I think ima buy the camera tomorrow :)

  • how much you give money for camera ?

  • $1000 cept I got it like the day it came out in late may, now it's under $800!

  • pls answer is that canon VIXIA hv40 or canon LEGRIA hv40

  • It's the Vixia Hv-40 :)

  • hey! wishbone moved! lol

    i love the dog! <3

  • C'mon Wishbone! Put a little effort into it...

  • Brilliant footage to show off this cameras capabilities. Canon should pay you!

  • what were your export properties? resolution? format? what framerate? what did you edit with? please answer everything!

    amazing video!

  • I exported in 720 30p which is the exact format Youtube converts it's files to, so that's one less step for them which means faster processing for me! I takes alot longer if you upload in 1080i. Nearly cut's time in half. I used Corel Videostudio 12. I use it for simple edits, but for color correction I use Adobe Premiere Pro cs3, but Premeire Pro is more complicated, so I tend to use Videostudio 12.

  • hey with the hv40 can how do you import the video file? & can you record to the sim card instead of the tape? THANKS much apreciated!

  • I hook it up to my laptop via a firewire cable. And I looked also to see if you can record to the mini sd card, but unfortunately you can't :(

  • so you basically have to wait for the whole vid to play through while recording it, or does it take less time then that, how does it work?

  • yes, that's what I hate about mini dv tape...you have to capture an hour, then wait an hour, then edit for an hour (actually more like 6 hrs :) and then let it render for an hour...or more! so, yah...my next cam is definitely gonna be a Sd card, or hard drive, or P2 card!

  • can yo think of any other cams that have hq like this that dont use tapes? im impatient! lol what about the hf200o r 20

  • I thought the hv40 used a flash card instead of tapes like the hv30?

  • nope, it uses a Mini Sd card to record pictures onto it not video...unfortunately :(

  • so you don't like tape then? What disadvantages does tape have besides having to import it?

  • I like tape in that you don't have to buy massive amounts of hard-drive space to hold digital information, you can just keep the tapes and they're relativitely cheap ($2 each) But the downside is the capturing part...but In the future I expect things to go all digital.

  • MiniDV is still a much better choice in my opinion... the only advantage flash format has for storage is the quick ability to trasfer footage to the computer. The SD card cameras use AVCHD and although it looks amazing, its too hard to work with for the average user. you need to use another program to create proxy files or a super computer. HDV to me is still the way to go recording to tapes. AVCHD is way to troublesome to edit naitively for those on a budget especially. nice footage!

  • He is a beautiful dog!!!!!!!!!

Do you really shot with a canon hv40??????

  • Is that with the stock lens?

  • Yes, I didn't attach any additional lenses.

  • awesome dog!!! i have a little fluff ball that never stops running around and never stops barking

  • ahahahahahahh love your dog with hat and glasses! ahahahah

  • VEry Good !!!! ))Make some low light tests please .:-).

  • Looks amazing!
