Enjoy your pets when they're around. I had to put down my 15-year-old dog and 20-year-old cat a couple of months ago. Although it may seem like all they do is exist, the house is empty.
Hey bro what settings did you use. And what did you use to render it and what rendering settings did you use? If could please. My video on my page was shot in 1080i 24f Cine Mode Rendered in Vegas 9.0 Pro... Same HV40 Camera yet your quality is smashing mine I do not understand. So if you could please clue me in. I'm on hv20.com and they aren't being of much help I feel like I'm missing something important! Thanks for taking your time to help in advance if you do.
Never mind. I found out what it meant. Without a MFR do can you adjust the focus using the lens, or do you have to you the little switch any time to adjust it? I've never messed with any of them before, so I have no clue how they work.
Okay, thanks! I've been looking into getting a HV40, and want to do it right when I get one. Is it easy to use the manual focus to make the background blurry, and the foreground in focus?
Just Bought this camera and loved watching your sweet loving dog. You are a good person can tell just by this video. I took a snap of the sunglasses shot.
Thanks! For this one I used Corel Videostudio Pro X2 (they just released the Pro X3 version) but now I'm editing on the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection.
I'm upgrading to the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection but I have been using Corel Videostudio 12 Pro X2. It's a realatively inexpensive nice editing software so that's what I would recommend!
there's something about the HV20/30/40 camera's picture quality that I can't put my finger on... To me it looks more "film" like and "smoother" when compared to the newer HF S10 models... It could be perhaps that people have learned to use it better since it's been out longer? Anyone share some thoughts or inputs on this? Having a tough time choosing between the HV40 and the HF S10... I don't mean to turn this into a hdv vs avchd war
You might be noticing the "cine-mode" setting. Also, the HV40 records in native 24p which is the frame rate of film. But I don't know if this person recorded this in that setting.
Fallanspel, sorry for the late reply, but I finally made up my mind to get the panasonic GH1 and I couldn't be happier. This is coming from someone on a tight budget too but if your interested on why I made my decision over that camera vs the hv30/hfs10 model, please feel free to send me a private message on youtube.
This is such good footage. I just bought the Canon HV40 but I have been having capture problems. How did you capture and export? How big was the memory on this file? Did you have to compress it to get it on youtube? I want to get footage like this on youtube. Please explain how i can in details. Feel free to message me. Thanks so much!
thanks. I wasn't film in the cinema mode, the picture looks like better now. But this video, the picture is so much better, probably, I nedd to color correct it, I've heard about a software to do it. THANK YOU!
i am about to buy a camera and i was planning on buying the canon XL-1 but idk if this is better so would you think the canon XL-1 or the HV40 is better?
I think that you should buy hv30-hv40 because the image quality is getting better on smaller hdv cameras than old mini dv cameras. I sold my own canon xl1 few weeks ago. And im getting new hd camera soon:D
so, to this date, this is the latest and greatest consumer camera for those who prefer to edit uncompressed video, correct? i mean, it's the friendliest way to go if you plan on extensive [movie] editing of your video, correct? also, which editing software compliments it the best?
I exported in 720 30p which is the exact format Youtube converts it's files to, so that's one less step for them which means faster processing for me! I takes alot longer if you upload in 1080i. Nearly cut's time in half. I used Corel Videostudio 12. I use it for simple edits, but for color correction I use Adobe Premiere Pro cs3, but Premeire Pro is more complicated, so I tend to use Videostudio 12.
yes, that's what I hate about mini dv tape...you have to capture an hour, then wait an hour, then edit for an hour (actually more like 6 hrs :) and then let it render for an hour...or more! so, yah...my next cam is definitely gonna be a Sd card, or hard drive, or P2 card!
I like tape in that you don't have to buy massive amounts of hard-drive space to hold digital information, you can just keep the tapes and they're relativitely cheap ($2 each) But the downside is the capturing part...but In the future I expect things to go all digital.
MiniDV is still a much better choice in my opinion... the only advantage flash format has for storage is the quick ability to trasfer footage to the computer. The SD card cameras use AVCHD and although it looks amazing, its too hard to work with for the average user. you need to use another program to create proxy files or a super computer. HDV to me is still the way to go recording to tapes. AVCHD is way to troublesome to edit naitively for those on a budget especially. nice footage!
Good video. I'm thinking of getting a HV-40.

Okay. Sorry for all the questions. Just wanted to make sure I'm getting a camera that can do good manual focus.
TheJosh2005 1 year ago
Never mind. I found out what it meant. Without a MFR do can you adjust the focus using the lens, or do you have to you the little switch any time to adjust it? I've never messed with any of them before, so I have no clue how they work.
TheJosh2005 1 year ago
@TheJosh2005 you have to use the litte spin wheel :)
supersonic0000 1 year ago
lol. Okay. Well I have no clue what a MFR is, and googled it, and got nothing camera related.
TheJosh2005 1 year ago
So the camera can't do focus without the MFR? Or does the MFR just help with it?
TheJosh2005 1 year ago
@TheJosh2005 The MFR helps alot :) You can pull manual focus but its a little awckward spinning the little wheel.
supersonic0000 1 year ago

Okay, thanks! I've been looking into getting a HV40, and want to do it right when I get one. Is it easy to use the manual focus to make the background blurry, and the foreground in focus?
TheJosh2005 1 year ago
@TheJosh2005 I would recommend getting the MFR (google it) for the HV series and that will help alot to pull a nice focus!
supersonic0000 1 year ago
Do you use an external mic with your camera? If so, what mic do you use?

@TheJosh2005 Yes I do use an external mike. I bought the Rode NTG-2 and am very pleased with sound quality :)

hey with the hv40 can how do you import the video file? & can you record to the sim card instead of the tape? THANKS much apreciated!

MysticAFI 2 years ago
nope, it uses a Mini Sd card to record pictures onto it not video...unfortunately :(
supersonic0000 2 years ago
so you don't like tape then? What disadvantages does tape have besides having to import it?
