  • Okay So i got all the way to the over heat thing. Let it cool down. and now I'm back to the red ring... did I do something wrong?

  • where did you get the thermal compound from, just like any average home-style store

Turned the xbox off and pressed down on the chip that has the xbox logo on it until it cooled down. Turned it back on and it was fixed. Not really sure if everyone needs to fix their problem the way u did, although Im sure everyones hardware problems can differ but this seemed to fix my red ring and I didnt need to take everything apart.

  • I made it all the way through to the part were you plug it in. When I did, I got 2 flashing red lights right away?? HELP I plugged fans in (I cleaned them gently first) just to see what would happen they started up then they stopped! GRRRRRR! What now?

  • SCREWS! AND WASHERS... Use assures that cover the Orange circle. And use a acre that's fits through the Orange hole, because the heat sinks age aluminum and you can resize the hole

  • hey my xbox does not want to get rid off the lights ;/ what do i do it starts off with 4 then quickly changes to 3 and after i kept it for like 2:30 minutes without the fans cooled it down and still shows rrod what do i do ? help

  • Your videos would be alot better if you mentioned the tools you would need such as the torx screw driver and what size. Also they would be alot better if you mentioned exactly what a person would need to buy from a hardware store at the begining of the first video so people dont have there xbox sitting in pieces then figure out that they dont have anything they NEED to fix the xbox.. Good videos tho just needs to be a little more informing about the things your doing as u go in order

  • So far mine doesn't work. I still get the red rings. I followed the guide 100% and still nothing. I'm not happy.

  • Dick cheese. you could have mentioned a parts list you'll need at the start of your video.

  • Was it copper paste??

  • @WhiteBanana1000 no it is a special type of heat sink glue to transferee heat better its on eBay for £ 2.00

  • I completed the fix, but now I get one red light before the console overheats ;( whats happened now?

  • Thank you for making me the coolest mum ever, I know nothing about electronics but my son is over the moon that I managed to pull apart his xbox and fix it. Cost me $8, which is much better than the $240 i was looking at to replace it. THANK YOU!!

  • @ymum83 hahhaha this made my day! xD gratz! =)

  • @ymum83 HAHAHA! It's 2 weeks til Christmas and I'm sitting in the room with my 's Xbox 360 all over the living room floor. I hear ya sister if this works I'll be mother of century in my house too! GO MOM'S!

  • @ymum83 yeah but then after a while he will forget about it i would know im a kid... well at least an observant one

  • @xxCrAzYcAnUkxXx Lol people don't forget about their Xbox's. It's not like a spiderman model.

  • Heat sink is cold, but my xbox is only flashing 2 lights. PLEASE help

  • what does it mean if after all this, when you plug the xbox in for the first time it shows only two rings red dots?

  • @stankstupid6 overheated

  • Can't hear Anything u were saying really...sound like u were on acid or some shit

  • once you've let it cool down, and you switch it back on and you get 1 single red light, what does that mean?

  • what size screws and nuts did you use? also that was thermal compound right?

  • @32trodriguez arctic silver thermal compound

  • You made me wince when you used pliers on the nuts. Use box end wrenches for crying out loud. You can get sets of them really cheaply.

  • why do people as k if they can use something other than thermal compound. if your asking that question dont touch a motherboard ever

  • can i use something different from the thermal compound?

  • should the power brick be green or orange when this is happening

  • what are you putting on

  • what was the stuff u put on the chips? and were can i buy it?

  • @icejet11197 thermal past or thermal compound, staples and best buy, radio shack

  • @Makaveli152pac thx man

  • good

  • did u leave the x clanps off and just screw the thing the x clamp held on back to the abox

  • dude, ur video rules

    it work Dx

  • wheres part 1 of the video?

  • Budweiser, NOFX, and tweeking at parents house. priceless. It seems like every damn video I watch. All the systems are overheated after supposedly fixing them. Why even take apart??

  • What were the length and diameter of each screw? What did you use to cover the 4 chips on the side where the X-clamps were?

  • I fixed the left heatsink for the E74 and when I try to overheat with the fans disconnected it goes from the one red light to the three red lights and never goes to the two red lights? I left it like that trying to get the 2 red lights for a half an hour and it never happens. WTF. I have fixed other 360's with no problems.

  • I wouldn't even bother putting the mobo back in that case. 90% of fixing RROD is getting all the components out of that damn case!

  • Here's my problem. As soon as I finished the whole process and pluged it in to heat it up I had 2 red lights instead of 3. After 15 secs or so the light on the power cabel turned yellow instead of green and the xbox stopped running and the 2 red lights were still on. Does anybody know what that means? Thanks in advance.

  • @NimoIero I am also getting 2 red lights instead of 3 after this whole process. My xbox also stops running after a few seconds with the 2 red lights flashing.

  • @heyitssjay try blow ur power button thing one in front

  • @NimoIero I am basically having the same problem after following the video.

  • WOW XBOX 360 SUCKS!!!! so when you think your xbox 360 not overheating it really is and i notice i keep saying xbox that cuz xbox is way better than an xbox 360 in my opinin

  • how did yoy clean the chips?

  • @dimdiocom alcohol.

  • @ 8:00 my x box does not heat up

  • @miah12991 does the light on the power cord thing orange or is it green

  • i Just did the penny trick and my xbox been working for months now

  • Turn Your fuck emo shit music down so I can hear you!! FUCK SAKE!

  • @DROPSOF198 How dare you call nofx emo.

  • for anyone with 2 or 3 red rings after following these videos, try removing the metal washers, only use the nylon washers. thats what I did and my 360 didn't give me any trouble after that. didn't even need to over heat it. hope that helps.

  • i did everything at the overheat part and nothing is booting up..Have the three red lights but nothing else in the machine is running..I plug the fan in and it dosent work..any ideas would be appreciated.. Thanks

  • 4:30 is that an hot glue gun?

  • but when my xnox starts sometimes it freezes then goes to 2 red rings. someone help, its the fattest burn to buy a new madden 12 then have your xbox shoot itself in the face. someon please help bring back my damn xbox

  • how and with what do you cleaned up the chips?

  • I took the x clamps out, put thermal cooler then put the x clamps back on. but now once i see green lights flash it suddenly turns into 2 red rings. What do I do?

  • Instead of letting it over heat. I used a heat gun and went over both sides of the circuit board for 5 minutes each never staying in one spot and always moving. This melts all the solder back on the board. The solder joints break when the board warps. Do this is you have a heat gun. Keep it on low. If not use the over heat method.

  • do you have to replace the xclamps with screws? because i did this to my elite (which had screws) and it worked but then i tried the same exact method on my 2 original xboxes and both failed but i put the xclamps back on

  • @supask8a23 yea dude you u do i just found that out

  • what size are those washers and bolts???

  • @42opium I would like to know also ..please

  • @capo808

    -8 M5-.80 x 10 Machine Screws

    -16 #10 Flat Washers – Nylon

    -16 5mm Flat Washers – Metal

you could get these a@ home depot just make sure you look for them and not some dumb ass employee i just found this out too lol!

  • @42opium thanks for the info..I ended up ordering a kit from amazon..But these figures will definitely help if I fix more..Thanks ..

  • omfg the 360 doesnt use screws ! :O

  • @KriMaster08 on the x clamps it doesn't but when you take the clamps off u need screws

  • omfg the 360 doesnt use screwa ! :O

  • Just did the fix, and I really appriciate the help, but now when I turn mine on, it keeps switching form 4 lights to 3 then stays on 2, and it doesn't even warm up. any one else have this problem?

  • @Devinity05 It's also a good idea to tighten each screw only a couple of rotations at a time as you alternate between screws, this way each screw is tightened to the same degree.

  • Worked for about 10 minutes then got RROD again. I will try method again, maybe I did not clean well enough or something. Thanks for the instruction though.

  • Dude, thank you so much!!! It worked like a charm!!!

I plugged it in to let it overheat and it just went straight into the welcome screen!!!

    Thank you for the tutorial!

  • I tried the Xclamp fix and I followed it step by step. But when I tried to overheat the xbox it would not turn on. I plugged in the DVD drive just like the tutorial said. The power brick just stays orange and the box shows the 3 Red Lights. Can someone give me advise?

  • I had the 3 rings, did the penny trick but without the thermal cooler and now I have the 2 rings. I'm getting the thermal compound soon but will this xclamp thing address the 2 rings also?

  • @xXAboudXx1 Nevermind, I figured it out, screws were too loose

  • @kurtisvandieen

mine's doing the same thing. which screws were too loose with yours?

  • @Devinity05 My specific problem was that the washers I was using had too large of a diameter therefore the ones I had on for the screws in the middle that are close together were overlapping causing the heat sinks to not make proper contact with the cpu and gpu chips. I took it apart again, put smaller washers on and it worked perfectly fine once I put it back together.

  • @xXAboudXx1, my Xbox was off for a few days before I turned it on and I got the 2 red lights within 10 seconds of turning it on so I don't think that's the problem, plus when I touch the Heat sink's they are cold. Could it be something to do with my xbox not receiving the signal from the thermal sensor? if so, how do I fix this?

  • I did this and now my Xbox turns on for about 15 seconds and then starts flashing two red lights, what does this mean?

  • @kurtisvandieen It means its overheating, have you installed the fan correctly?

  • @KoolKidKarl2k8 Ya I figured it out, the thermal sensor wasnt working because I had a couple of screws loose but thanks anyways!

  • i overheated my xbox and still have the same problem i put new compound on it and did the penny trick. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Over Heated the Xbox got the 2 Lights Turned it off and then let it cool down for 15 min and still have the red rings any advice?

  • hey i found two problems, it has the word "Microsoft on it..." and look there it is! "made in china"

  • yo how long does usually it take for your xbox to overheat, i had it on for like 10 mins and nothing, diddn't want to leave it for too long incase it melted anything.

  • @anto135121 Ended up working without it having to overheat.

For anyones 360 that doesn't overheat just leave it for 10 mins then turn it off and back on should still work, cheers to the guy who made this vid.

  • What Screws and washers did you use. I have the compound on the Chips and now i need the screws and washers explained

  • thanks for the help just got my thermal compound from currys today :') i will be glad if this works, thanks again

  • around 150,000 idiots didnt know there was a link to part 2 on the side haha

  • i seen a video like this but the used a hot air gun before he used the thermal compound. :)

the hot air gun was used on the board about 5 minutes each side

  • ITT: Kids that don't know wtf Thermal Compound is, where to buy it, and why it's important. Enjoy your busted systems later...

  • Somebody know what kind of glue he's using around 4:35?

  • this video gives me a head ache with how the camera shaking every 2 damn sec

  • This dose work thanks a lot but i did not use a thermal compound i used foil paper and it works great

  • Were you wasted when you made this video???0.O

  • with my PC this thing takes less than 1 minute

  • Worked perfectly and first time. Thanks a bunch. The only problem I had was finding a T9. Found it in a kit at Napa.

  • do u have 2 use the glue

  • at about 4:15 what gel is that?

  • Wow! Thanks to you, my sons are once again playing on their Xbox and off my back :-) Thanks AM

  • I got it heated up and had it cool down how come it wont work?? I didnt put a lot of that glue on

  • yeah man i did everything he did....except the screws and washers....still red whaaat the fuck...please help

  • where do i get the thermal compound stuff... im also a little afraid to do all this myself for fear of breaking it but i dont wanna spend 100 bucks and wait 3 weeks :(

  • @KonmanXC719 i've got some at ComputerUSA store for 7 bucks

  • What kind of screws and washers did you use to reattach the heat sinks?

  • this does work i just did this to a 3 ring J tagged xbox and it turned right back on

  • how important is it to have your disc drive inside at the time of repair?

  • The tall heat sink is actually threaded, so you can just place it on the board, then screw in your bolts from below without using nuts.

  • do you get rid of the x-clamps on the back? just dont put them back on?

  • yo i was wonderin if anyone could help i did wat he did i after it heated up n cooled down i turned it back on n then 3 lights again plz help

  • @themostchronickush same thing happened to me, anyone know whats going wrong?

  • how to remove rrod

open up xbox, remove the LEDs

now you have no green lights or red lights!

  • @matthewm04 hahaha PROBLEM MICROSOFT !!!!! XD

  • Very well explained, you have a lot of patience and were easy to follow. Do you have any tutorials about the unreadable disk error problem with xbox 360?

  • I can't get these clips off.. Help?

  • people should just make themselves a custom case to put the mobo in and buy a fan adapter so you can put more fans on the case

  • Well I guess for the majority of people that used this method had some luck, But I didn't :(

All i got was 2 red rings. Just another pile of crap, Thanks Microsoft

  • I used ArctiClean i ordered with the Arelic Silver 5 Some cotton buds help with the cleaning.

  • Thank you so much for this, got my 360 going, Nice and easy steps, had to wait 6 mins for the 2 red lights. Thank You :)

  • what you use to clean the CPU?

  • Did everything this vid said to do... got to the part where you turn it on, 3 red lights come up, after a couple of mins it goes to 2 lights and feels really hot. I then cooled it down - plugged it back in again and 3 red lights still appear... What have I done wrong...? :/

  • @ClubinMonkey upgrade to heatgun fix or ir6000 station fix, if no long term luck with reflow then try reball. this videos fix is the most hit and miss.

  • @ClubinMonkey EVERYTHING

  • what were the products you used for cleaning
