I want to add that my Xbox never "overheated" with the 3 lights turning to 2. Regardless, I left it on for 5 minutes anyway then powered it off and it came back up normal. Thanks for the video.
I got the red ring the other day. Took my xbox apart. Turned it on with the top off and let it sit for about 10 minutes til all the chips warmed up. Turned the xbox off and pressed down on the chip that has the xbox logo on it until it cooled down. Turned it back on and it was fixed. Not really sure if everyone needs to fix their problem the way u did, although Im sure everyones hardware problems can differ but this seemed to fix my red ring and I didnt need to take everything apart.
I made it all the way through to the part were you plug it in. When I did, I got 2 flashing red lights right away?? HELP I plugged fans in (I cleaned them gently first) just to see what would happen they started up then they stopped! GRRRRRR! What now?
@quikquik98 when the xbox over heats its goes to a different red ring. Wich allows it forget about the original 3 rings. And now that there is new thermal compond, it won't just red ring agin in two days. Hope that helped :)
SCREWS! AND WASHERS... Use assures that cover the Orange circle. And use a acre that's fits through the Orange hole, because the heat sinks age aluminum and you can resize the hole
this fix has worked for me twice already! i got about 6 months of heavy game play after the first fix before it red ringed again. here's to hopefully another six months at least
hey my xbox does not want to get rid off the lights ;/ what do i do it starts off with 4 then quickly changes to 3 and after i kept it for like 2:30 minutes without the fans cooled it down and still shows rrod what do i do ? help
Your videos would be alot better if you mentioned the tools you would need such as the torx screw driver and what size. Also they would be alot better if you mentioned exactly what a person would need to buy from a hardware store at the begining of the first video so people dont have there xbox sitting in pieces then figure out that they dont have anything they NEED to fix the xbox.. Good videos tho just needs to be a little more informing about the things your doing as u go in order
Thank you for making me the coolest mum ever, I know nothing about electronics but my son is over the moon that I managed to pull apart his xbox and fix it. Cost me $8, which is much better than the $240 i was looking at to replace it. THANK YOU!!
@ymum83 HAHAHA! It's 2 weeks til Christmas and I'm sitting in the room with my 's Xbox 360 all over the living room floor. I hear ya sister if this works I'll be mother of century in my house too! GO MOM'S!

I fixed the left heatsink for the E74 and when I try to overheat with the fans disconnected it goes from the one red light to the three red lights and never goes to the two red lights? I left it like that trying to get the 2 red lights for a half an hour and it never happens. WTF. I have fixed other 360's with no problems.

Here's my problem. As soon as I finished the whole process and pluged it in to heat it up I had 2 red lights instead of 3. After 15 secs or so the light on the power cabel turned yellow instead of green and the xbox stopped running and the 2 red lights were still on. Does anybody know what that means? Thanks in advance.

WOW XBOX 360 SUCKS!!!! so when you think your xbox 360 not overheating it really is and i notice i keep saying xbox that cuz xbox is way better than an xbox 360 in my opinin
for anyone with 2 or 3 red rings after following these videos, try removing the metal washers, only use the nylon washers. thats what I did and my 360 didn't give me any trouble after that. didn't even need to over heat it. hope that helps.
i did everything at the overheat part and nothing is booting up..Have the three red lights but nothing else in the machine is running..I plug the fan in and it dosent work..any ideas would be appreciated.. Thanks
but when my xnox starts sometimes it freezes then goes to 2 red rings. someone help, its the fattest burn to buy a new madden 12 then have your xbox shoot itself in the face. someon please help bring back my damn xbox
I took the x clamps out, put thermal cooler then put the x clamps back on. but now once i see green lights flash it suddenly turns into 2 red rings. What do I do?
Instead of letting it over heat. I used a heat gun and went over both sides of the circuit board for 5 minutes each never staying in one spot and always moving. This melts all the solder back on the board. The solder joints break when the board warps. Do this is you have a heat gun. Keep it on low. If not use the over heat method.
do you have to replace the xclamps with screws? because i did this to my elite (which had screws) and it worked but then i tried the same exact method on my 2 original xboxes and both failed but i put the xclamps back on
Just did the fix, and I really appriciate the help, but now when I turn mine on, it keeps switching form 4 lights to 3 then stays on 2, and it doesn't even warm up. any one else have this problem?
@Devinity05 It's also a good idea to tighten each screw only a couple of rotations at a time as you alternate between screws, this way each screw is tightened to the same degree.
Worked for about 10 minutes then got RROD again. I will try method again, maybe I did not clean well enough or something. Thanks for the instruction though.
I tried the Xclamp fix and I followed it step by step. But when I tried to overheat the xbox it would not turn on. I plugged in the DVD drive just like the tutorial said. The power brick just stays orange and the box shows the 3 Red Lights. Can someone give me advise?
I had the 3 rings, did the penny trick but without the thermal cooler and now I have the 2 rings. I'm getting the thermal compound soon but will this xclamp thing address the 2 rings also?
@Devinity05 My specific problem was that the washers I was using had too large of a diameter therefore the ones I had on for the screws in the middle that are close together were overlapping causing the heat sinks to not make proper contact with the cpu and gpu chips. I took it apart again, put smaller washers on and it worked perfectly fine once I put it back together.
@xXAboudXx1, my Xbox was off for a few days before I turned it on and I got the 2 red lights within 10 seconds of turning it on so I don't think that's the problem, plus when I touch the Heat sink's they are cold. Could it be something to do with my xbox not receiving the signal from the thermal sensor? if so, how do I fix this?
yo how long does usually it take for your xbox to overheat, i had it on for like 10 mins and nothing, diddn't want to leave it for too long incase it melted anything.
to everyone who is having the Rrod problem by doing this trick ! it will fixes ur box how ever if you keep using your xbox in in a hot environment the Rrod will say hello to u again !
where do i get the thermal compound stuff... im also a little afraid to do all this myself for fear of breaking it but i dont wanna spend 100 bucks and wait 3 weeks :(
Very well explained, you have a lot of patience and were easy to follow. Do you have any tutorials about the unreadable disk error problem with xbox 360?
Did everything this vid said to do... got to the part where you turn it on, 3 red lights come up, after a couple of mins it goes to 2 lights and feels really hot. I then cooled it down - plugged it back in again and 3 red lights still appear... What have I done wrong...? :/
@ClubinMonkey upgrade to heatgun fix or ir6000 station fix, if no long term luck with reflow then try reball. this videos fix is the most hit and miss.
I want to add that my Xbox never "overheated" with the 3 lights turning to 2. Regardless, I left it on for 5 minutes anyway then powered it off and it came back up normal. Thanks for the video.

Worked perfectly and first time. Thanks a bunch. The only problem I had was finding a T9. Found it in a kit at Napa.

What kind of screws and washers did you use to reattach the heat sinks?
biohaza12d 6 months ago
this does work i just did this to a 3 ring J tagged xbox and it turned right back on
popinshots17 6 months ago
how important is it to have your disc drive inside at the time of repair?
juanmena2014 6 months ago
The tall heat sink is actually threaded, so you can just place it on the board, then screw in your bolts from below without using nuts.

Very well explained, you have a lot of patience and were easy to follow. Do you have any tutorials about the unreadable disk error problem with xbox 360?

people should just make themselves a custom case to put the mobo in and buy a fan adapter so you can put more fans on the case
LucifersDisciple6 6 months ago
Well I guess for the majority of people that used this method had some luck, But I didn't :(
All i got was 2 red rings. Just another pile of crap, Thanks Microsoft

BleachDR 6 months ago
Did everything this vid said to do... got to the part where you turn it on, 3 red lights come up, after a couple of mins it goes to 2 lights and feels really hot. I then cooled it down - plugged it back in again and 3 red lights still appear... What have I done wrong...? :/

@ClubinMonkey upgrade to heatgun fix or ir6000 station fix, if no long term luck with reflow then try reball. this videos fix is the most hit and miss.
