  • The snap sends out the offering! Buddhist need to know the time because if you arrange to meet people at a time it would be rude to be late or a waste of time to be very early. To make offerings - each gesture is an ofering - is a practice of giving - the offerings are also made as actual substances in bowls but during a ritual, hand gesture are used to symbolize them. Even if no subtance is offered just to take the time to learn the gestures and perform them is a training in being generous

  • what's up with the snap

  • so why does a buddhist need to know the time???

    the mind boggles.

  • Whats the purpose?

  • Thank you for sharing this lesson. Tashi Delek !

  • thank you for sharing!

  • Such a Blessing to come across this video.

Thank You for sharing these beautiful lessons.

    Peace.

  • @ GeshlersNKT: I also study at an NKT centre and our teacher tought us to respect other lineages and/or traditions and their ways of practising dharma. To say that Geshe-la's way is the "only" way doesn't seem very tolerant or even wise. I welcome you to respond.

    Namaste.

  • Beautiful, thank you for sharing this.

    Namaste

  • thes is sheet

  • a very beautiful way to present offerings from the heart. thank you for sharing.

  • hey, i got his movie..

  • People with too many cheap things to say, such as ignorant youtube commentators, don't have the backbone, spiritual strength, or even discipline, to respect such things that are held in high esteem.

dogs bark at what they don't know.. and while I love dogs and other animals, the human himself stoops lower when his behavior descends below that of his pets.

I respect you for revealing this. Thank you.

  • @cnobles84 nice observation .. powerful and concise. .. respects

  • namaste,

can you recommend a dvd that breaks down the steps of the offering mudras and the mantras chanted so i can learn them correctly? I know and respect that each gesture has meaning and would hate to say the 'wrong word'

    sincerely,

    shakti-shaman

  • So so so beautiful. I practice in a Japanese tradition and have seen a few Japanese trantric masters flow like this. This video is very inspiring, dance like.

    Namu Amitayus!

  • Excellent thank you :o)

  • really good it is the practice to balancethe all 5 elements .thanks for the posting

  • ruzickaw, it is not useless. You must respect the practice of each religion. This hand mudra offerings is the practice of Tibeten Buddhisim.

  • Thank you for sharing. It does not seem to be easy to learn.

  • It not easy but with practice, it will become easy. :)

  • @flsam those that question are not ready to be atleast open to other faiths and the hand mudra's should only be taught to one who has taken refuge and is serious about buddhism, other wise it is insulting to even ask for a lesson if not learning the meaning and importance of the mudra's, namaste

  • ok, keep on commenting...but this goes in spite of your dignity.

  • this isint as easy as it looks... at allllll

  • wonderful

  • why dont you shut up and stop saying stupid things? you're an ignorant. just close your mouth if you have nothing better to say!!!!!!

  • GeshlersNKT says "Geshle Kelsang Gyatso is the only way!!" Sound like the fundamentalists in any other religion you know of?!? Sad...

  • i dont get it why bother playing with your hands what the purpose

how does this help you wake up with Gods light in your body

  • I just did a video explaining the energy of mudras. One reason or example: If you want to channel peace energy, it would be counterproductive to use a war mudra...

  • an EXCELLENT question! Buddhism is non-theistic. We haven't a deity, a god, at all! The cosmology of buddhism is SO different that its like living in a different universe from those who have gods. That said, these are tibeten buddhists and they do some complicated rituals that are cool but not required, as it were. Hope that helps!

  • my guess is the mudras help open up the sevens seals or your chakras

When you open your thid eye and have an out of body. the Mudras proboly help you focus so you can reach higher astral plans

God is light the light in your third eye and the Goal is to wake up in Gods light and you can control the light. I wonder what happens if you do the mudras in this sate and do the mudras also help you obtain this state

thats my guess just wondering what others think anydeep secret on the mudras

  • I came across a healing system called "human biodynamics," I think... developed by some highly intuitive people (in Oregon)... they asked the body questions using kinesiology for answers, and instead of countless yes and no questions, used mudras like macros. It was amazing to me; best I can describe, the mudras focus energy in a way that "describes" certain quintessences or maybe archetypes; maybe a little like mantras do. The physical effects were unmistakable, it was very convincing.

  • My comment about "human biodynamics" was a response to Vallick, who asked if anyone had any insight about the real nature of mudras... Then I remembered the developer's name, Sohihin Thom, and googled him. It turns out someone else has used "human biody." for their system, so he renamed his "ontological Kinesiology." Just FYI.

  • mudras are the developed forms of asanas in yoga, and are related to mantras very closely

"In asanas, senses are primary and prana is secondary, in mudras, prana is primary and senses are secondary" (a quote from a book)

  • wild sort of flamenco hand movement. Power of myth...universals.

  • Hello Dharma Friends,

Here is a link to Part 2 of what we in Orlando (Drigung Theksum Chöling) did on April 29th where our Rinpoche gave lessons

on the offerings and the mudras that go with them. watch?v=smorK6Au8QU

  • Interesting. I did not know about this. Every day something new!

  • Do anyone know if the mudras are used the same way in the hinduist rituals?

  • No. Not only are these offering mudras specific to Buddhism, these are presented by a Gelugpa monk and follow the Gelug tradition. Some Buddhists schools of Tibet have entirely different offering mudras.

  • We can't separate Hinduism and Buddhism, since the root is the same

  • I think after centuries of development in different countries that the practices would differ some at this point.

Also, as shoeless pointed out, the mudras that I perform as a Nyingmapa vary somewhat from those demonstrated by this Gelugpa monk.
