Yo Yo Ma was born in China and is considered the best cellist is the world. He could play Bach Suites at age 4. At age 7 he played for Pres. Kennedy. He is also extremely talented on the piano, viola and violin. I can't watch this without getting a big grin. Bobby's vocals added to the beautiful strings make this performance as bright and happy as sunshine.

I'm not sure to whom or what you were replying but what you are saying isn't exactly accurate. The 'Double Bass', 'Contrabass', 'Bass Violin' and one you didn't mention 'String Bass' are all interchangeable names for the same instrument. The majority of double basses have four strings, some have five, and extremely rare are three string basses. These three string basses tend to be seen played by the older soloists who play solo music written for the bass from the 17th to the early 20th century.

Fourth string extensions as seen on the bass featured in this video are very common in the UK and are widely used by both orchestral players and jazz musicians. The extension usually extends the range down to a low C (exactly three ociaves below middle C) Double basses with a fifth string have no need for this extension as their extra string is almost always tuned to a low B (three octaves and a semitone below middle C).
