  • Let me get this straight. Scientists want computers to surpass the complexity of the human brain, as they say themselves, this could be a danger to humans so they want us to give ourselves up to human augmentations? Do you know the reason why I don't want small computers controlling a portion of my brain? Computers crash. Case closed.

  • GLOBAL BRAIN

    Human Consciousness Collective

    Currently under construction?

Sept-13-2011--The gap between today and tomorrow is closing at a staggering rate,

While the future continues to become more and more surreal.

In the next 50 years when our rate of technological progress begins to approach the infinite—an event called "the Singularity." This essentially represents the event horizon of our own technological evolution,

    The singularity approaches us quickly

    and we should embrace it.

  • Had me until he started raving on with his post modernist crap.

  • I played Zuma while listening to this. If you just sat and listened, then you will never get it.

  • The colors are way of illustrating a hypothesis in physics about dimensional vibration frequencies.

  • lost me big time when he started talking about colors:)

  • @Mordred86 lol colors he means i beliebe the different colors vibration ov an entity...suchas the indigochildren i asssdume turqoise is the next higher level ovcolorvibrationconsciousness

  • @trakkaton You WILL be assimilated! Resistance is futile.

  • nanotechnology is bullshit when we can decode a ants brain then we can maybe get into nanotechnology

  • @BloodlessNDizzy pretty sure we mapped out worm brains back in the 60's or 70's. don't underestimate exponential growth.

  • @BloodlessNDizzy

Nanotechnology is applied in the PRESENT.

It is a part of ENGINEERING.

An ant's brain is a topic of NEUROANATOMY.

    Get a clue.

  • The Boomers would put themselves in charge of the greatest revolution in the known universe. And they say the younger generations are self-centered.

  • Nanobots (and possibly yoctobots)- Can manipulate cells, elements, atoms, and even one day, quarks and strings. Yes. Post-Singularity Technology will be utter indistinguishable from magic.

  • And yet the Internet is just one big wanking machine for both mind and body

  • RATINGS! The entire world is quickly moving to a ratings operated world. Everything will hang on how it has been rated! This will be VERY extensive. This one might hurt your head!: You will rate your friends (think eBay mixed with Facebook) based on how well THEY rate others! Think about THAT! Click my name to see a lil more about Humans:"Where we stand." Thanks and just so you know, I rate you a 5 of 5! lol

  • He keeps on talking about tilting his head and waiting for information. He must have a slow internet connection...

  • It is like ominous grey alien abduction stuff. XD

  • I thought Singularity has to do with black holes and how the universe began?

  • that would be gravitational singularity, they're talking about technological singularity

  • different use of the terminology.

  • the a gravitational singularity, a point of infinite density theorized to be at the center of black holes. different from the technological singularity, though both deal with the concept of approaching infinity.

  • He did not do any of his own views. He is stating what Kurzweill predict's but as a biology major (Wilber) He certainly gives in to what the technologist's are saying. Many biologist's are criticizing this Singularity because of how they claim the body is not complicated at all.

  • nano robots for DNA repair?

    we will live forever?

  • That's the way it seems.

Of course, being that it's a singularity, we really don't know what's going to happen once it hits. Maybe something good, maybe something bad. Nanotechnology could be bad, it could result in a grey goo scenario.

  • Yes, except for those who listen to country music. Sacrifices must be made.

  • @sweetelesue Yes... if we don't all die quickly.

  • What are the "Talkeal Visions" (sp?) that Wilber refers to near the beginning of the clip?

  • I tried to run a few variations through Google. Didn't get a hit. Let me know if you hear or find anything? Many thanks...

  • Let's just keep moving forward, shall we?

  • I feel it is very important for us to introduce the public to concepts such as the singularity, life extension, and future technology in general. I have founded a compilation of the best future science videos on my channel under my playlist "Our Future". Feel free to view and comment them and spread the word so we have more minds knowledgeable of and working toward our important goal of overcoming our biological limitations.

  • what about te near death experience

  • i think a singularity is still far out of our reach, first computers needs to reach an AI intelligence on par with humans before they can start designing more powerful computers-we've a few decades to go before that

  • I was actually looking for "Naked Singularities" and found this instead.

Consider a star whose gravity collapses upon itself by running out of fuel. The center is called a Singularity and a Black Hole is the result with an Event Horizon that surrounds the Singularity (Center). The Event Horizon traps light. BUT without this Event Horizon you have a Naked Singularity...

There are some truths in this video as well as some non-truths. One must seperate garbage from recycled information

  • If this technological Singularity was reached, why would you want to replace your physical body with a computer? Why not keep your physical body. If, this singularity is reached, we surely would understand the brain much more, and could max out the performace of our brains. The problem I have with this, is that no matter how advanced we are, we will never know the secrets of the universe, we will always be 3 dimensional beings.

  • The word Singularity is used incorrectly here and it's obvious that we can't agree on a global scale with religious, political, social, intellectual, spiritual and emotional atributes --you know, what makes us as human as it does individual.

This theory is flawed and considers a reality where technology surpasses humanity. How can this be when we are in fact infinate and technology bound by numbers is quantitatively finite compared technology's creator - us humans! Less computers take over.

  • In what way are humans infinite? That's simply not true. The theory isn't flawed, it isn't even a theory, it's an estimation based on the progression of technology.

  • it took a full minute for that guy to get out a simple question

  • Nice idea. However, if the internet is anything to go by, the gestalt will be a moron.

  • he lost me with his sneering comment about people with time on their hands tending more towards dialogue, while the implied, really worthwhile people are busy writing books and changing the world. some people are just more relationship oriented, and get more enjoyment out of life sharing it with others in dialogue. the less relationship oriented people might have visions of standing out and need to feel that they are making a discernible difference. and i'm being nice about group b. ->

  • if i were to be not so nice, i'd point out that a huge number of people in the very high iq range tend toward megalomania - not that this guy necessarily does, but it's so clear to me that he feels he's a cut above.

  • will you type a complete sentence?

  • will you use punctuation , and also suck some dick

  • Haha! :D

  • LOL =D

  • Post-modernisim is the nuclear bomb of language. It destroys everything leaving only bits and pieces to be reassembled by whoever wants to. We have seen it used by neo-cons to justify torture. With so many conflicting points of view in the media how do you know what is true any more? You research an article far enough and you will eventualy end up with a conflicting story. Reality itself is shattering, and yet I can see no way to stop it. Maybe these people have a way... Maybe.

  • It's all in the way of thinking. All this shattering is quite pathological...

  • I'm geek Rapture Ready.

  • Somehow Ken missed the web 2.0 and with that the fact that the editing he says people would pay for is done by rating, linking, favoriting, playlisting, hit-counting, social networking, discussing, wikiing, connecting, filtering, profiling, freeware coding, botting, crawling, all done by people for free. If one person likes The Matrix, Fight Club, Themroc and Pi like I do it doesn't need an editor to find out which other movies he likes (that will most likely be appreciated by me as well...).

  • That was filmed before Web 2.0. The Integral Institute has been building a custom Web 2.0 portal for awhile now that will be launched this month.

  • I am going to ignore your hostility and entertain your idea here for a second. What about Kurzweil is "full of shit"? Do you not buy the exponential growth of info tech? Or is it the end result (in so far as we can imagine the "end") that he predicts?

Give us information rather than dropping the random vulgarity that offers nothing to a discussion.

  • Kurzweil is a dick.

  • We are evolving we are coming to a point where we can understand our own consciousness and connect with others in ways only thought to be in science fiction. Every day I here of people swearing they've had a telepathic or clairvoyant experience. But the government, religion, and other things of that nature are distracting us from our true potential and that is to reach this singularity to truly understand our selves and our place in the universe. Expand your mind do not let things control you

  • Ken Rocks!!!

  • Anything on the Large Hadron Collider. The new movements in scientific theory... Ray Kurzweil's theories on exponential change, and the singularity. The Omega Point.... The question I would ask from all of this discussion is... Is size completely relative? Are there universes within us? Are we working on creating a new consciousness that can not only understand more dimensions of space but of consciousness as well?

  • Part 2 Comment (read part 1 first)

Observational information has potentiality for manipulation depending on how it is presented. If the news quotes only certain facts and omits others then observational information forms our view. It is possible to create a profile for brain downloading which continually updates according to who I am. But the dissemination of information would need to be free of manipulation of power. Is that possible? Yes. I think.

  • Information Ethics.. How can the interpretive information downloaded not be hegemonic imperialist and rather be what Wilber says in A Sociable God "A concerned hermeneutic judgement from within"or rather " from those who have experienced it themselves and not an outside authority."re. AI It is possible to work because it is unavoidable. AI is occurring on this computer screen. A benefit of individual profile enables information to be downloaded in different forms of intelligence. This is good.

  • Part 1 Comment

Marshal Mcluhan talked about extensions of media. I am an extension of media. I am media. My computer notebook already does what this AI technology will do, or could do through the brain (downloading). But such an edited stream of information would need to be right quadrant observational information and not left quadrant interpretive information. Or would it?

  • I don't think there will be a technological singularity caused by AI as people like Kurzweil typically imagine it. A super intelligent AI would just be far too difficult to design. Much more likely some unpredictable technological innovation will kill most of us long before AI has the chance!

But just to entertain the notion, if AI did produce an intelligence explosion the Integral Movement would quickly become obsolete along with just about every institution based upon human intelligence.

  • I'd rather say that it is more likely that some predictable technological innovation will kill most of us long before AI has the chance.

I don't think that the difficult design would hinder the construction of a super intelligent AI. Once the AI has taken the basic obstacles that make it SciFi nowadays we will let them work for themselves. They will evolve from lower AI to higher AI without human interference. All you need is hardware, energy and time. Why waste highly trained human personal?

  • i know next to nothing about AI, but it's hard to imagine that a completely artificial intelligent being, even a sentient one, if that's possible, could have an ego. this is based on my belief that ego derives from the body, and particularly within the emotional/memory centre of our brain. i'd go as far as to say we have emotions because we have bodies that feel pain and pleasure, and unless a completely artificial AI can do that, i dont' see how it can have an ego.

  • I am so amazingly appreciative of these videos. The illuminations provided in them are integral (parden the pun) to my ability to understand the vast amount of information that Im given every day.

    Thanks much.
