LOL...They should send these camera's down underground at night and watch the capital contruction guys on the night tour and then I want to hear people talk and complain about loafting...How many people get killed every year at your jobs? Injured, killed or maimed...as per the rule book think about that for a second...Capital rebuilds the subways regular maintenance just maintains the tracks funny how that interview cut off the explanation of the union president so short...very funny...
I wish someone would investigate news reporters! And compare how much they work compared to how much they get paid!
There altitude towards working people ESPECIALLY Civil Servants is that they feel they are way above them and should work as slaves with no benefits!
The Employees are not the reason they raise the fair or cut service! It's because of the major corruption in the MTA but, apparently even though that was proven there's nothing that can be done about it.
everyone has to answer to someone higher in this case with mta we are looking at upper upper management that's where the problem lies. I guess the mayor and the gov. is their boss but regardless something has to be done about the shoddy way mtas higher echelons is running mass transit. I've even heard that mta is far from being broke. the mayor & gov should step in & give an ultimatum get in shape or get the ax. these guys think they are invincible to being fired someone should show them diff
Union Labor = Lazy, unproductive, waste. MTA is no different than the UAW or any other union, which is nothing more than a place for lazy democrats to go and collect pay for no service rendered. Unions are also a front for the countrys largest money laundering racket. The democrat party. Loose the unions, and we gain our country back. Facts are facts folks
The MTA is a big expensive joke. It is mismanaged and utterly disinterested in prioritizing service. Less and less human beings at booths, or available to answer their phone -- and good luck finding a bus driver that can answer a question about the route or why buses are an hour behind schedule. I am walking wherever possible, no matter the distance. The service used to be better years ago when they were charging far less. Charging more is a joke. They don't need cameras on buses.
wow i want to work for the mta... i brake my back working for ups lifting packages. i wish i could get paid to do nothing for 8hours and only do half an hour of actual work....
@broadwayboss LOL!!!! I worked for the USPS and the MTA trust me you UPS guys aint killing yourselves and it's breaking not braking...haha...Don't believe what you have just scene take the test get this job and learn what the track is all about...While with five years on the job when your back is shot from getting it in you'll understand this clip was bullshit. A handful of senior guys falling through the cracks is all this is...nothing more...in the mean time scan those packages!!!!
I'm a track worker in a capital nights contruction gang people want to complain about guys not working or working from the begining of their shift to the very end I think we should try that for a week and when the riders start complaining that when they are going to work or coming home from work when the track flagger has the train sitting in the tunnel for an hour while we are taking out a broken rail or making sure a switch is working like it should then they will realize what an inconvience
@nyctrackmac Or maybe you can try having your salary proportionate to the work you do? You and your shameless union are part of the reason why trains aren't punctual, stations are falling apart, and fares are rising. All that money for "track work" goes down the drain. Lazy, greedy vermin! Lay off workers or at the very least, decrease hours!
THE MTA rakes in Billions of dollars a day, and they employ these media outlets to misdirect from their mismanagment of funds so that the public can take it out on the workers,
I am not against people getting paid well for a hard days' work, which covers many thousands of people doing grueling and dangerous jobs throughout the New York City transit system. However, municipal, state and federal employees across the nation get compensation and benefits that not only outpace most compensation for the same work in the private sector, but also demand more spending from from public coffers than there is tax money coming in. THIS IS A PROBLEM, & WE NEED TO DEAL WITH IT.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, but if you want to hear it straight from the horse's mouth here it is: I am an MTA NYC subway train operator. Most times I make 3 ROUND TRIPS, plus a "lay up" (taking a train to the storage yard for the night). In 8 hours, about 6 1/2 hours are PURE WORK. BELIEVE ME, I EARN my living.
* pulls and hold thing * * releases thing * Rinse and Repeat. * walks to other end of train car. * Do step one. I know its not easy, but come on. Just push/pill the level to make the train stop and go. Walk to the other end. For the lay-up, tell the people via radio thingy. GO slowly down the track. Get out of car. walk home, take train/takebus/drive.
@ejdf870 --If you're not loafing, then this doesn't apply to you. PS in my line of work. I may be working at any time of the day or night, on any day of the week. This does not entitle me to bankrupt city coffers. The rest of the public has been continuing to tighten our collective belts; meanwhile, civil service has been enjoying increased benefits, rising salaries and generous retirement terms at the expense of the public. Time to join the rest of us.
@Hanaokalele This is JUST the kind of argument I LOVE to have- I was just waiting for someone to set themselves up for it. What the HELL were you corporate America drones doing when times were booming and you were making money hand-over-fist? You were too busy looking down on us, that's where, and you didn't give a shit. Now that times were hard we have to share in the pain??? Sorry, my friend, you can't have it both ways. We didn't share in the boom, we shouldn't have to share in the bust.

The way they make it sound as if the employees are responsible for the fare hikes is utterly disgusting.
@alp294 MTA takes more money from their passengers than any other transit system in the country (go ahead, look it up). MTA workers are as often as not unhelpful, surly and hold in contempt their riders, the very source of their lavish benefits. You went on strike a few years ago because of a $10 copay? Most riders would love to have it so easy.
@Hanaokalele. Actually my first comment is that the MTA rakes in Billions of dollars a day, so im not sure if ure first quote was trying to dispute anything i said because it actually agreed. Many employees of the transit system much like most customer service positions gives ui a 50/50 chance of encountering a helpful employee or a surly employee. And as for their lavish benefits, they pretty much have average government employee benefits.
In Fact many other civil service employees across the country have better benefits. and they went on strike because the MTA was trying to negotiate pension benefits in the contract which is illegal according to that states Taylor Law. They dont have it easy, they have to constantly fight to keep what they have. however i tried to refute your statement the best i could, u on the other hand did not refute anything in my original statement
@Hanaokalele Lavish?? What you should be doing is championing the benefits for ALL workers. Not trying to take away benefits from the ones that have them. The 200 administrators that make 150,000 to 350,000 are the ones that have lavish benifits. 60,000 a year is only fair in these times. Those that make less should be arguing to raise wages. The senate hearings on youtube alone should open your eyes to the fact that the MTA is NOT transparant. The MTA makes these schedules not the workers.
@TheEdumacator I'm talking about fair wages in exchange for fair work. You're talking about 200 hundred administrators versus tens of thousands of TWU members. The Administration needs to cut the fat, no doubt. 60,000 a year for hard work is one thing; paying their pension at half salary for the rest of their lives after the age 55 retirement is unsustainable. Spiking pensions with unnecessary OT is also unaffordable. I made 32 grand last year--why should I pay more so these guys can loaf?
@Hanaokalele See what I mean. YOU made 32,000, so of course YOU complain about those making more. That is always the case. There is something wrong with YOUR salary not the people that make more than you. You are believing the Newspapers and misinformation. When you go to a store and buy something you have to pay more these days. Why should the MTA be any different. You have been lulled into think that they are part of the system but they are not. They have shareholders to answer to.
@Hanaokalele I want to make one thing clear, I am NOT championing loafing on the job at ANY pay. I have no disagreements with you there. But the Idea that 60,00 is a lot of money is nonsense. The MTA lies and distorts the truth so what are you basing your opinions on. Pension unsustainable? This is not the fire dept, police dept etc. This is the MTA, the MTA workers pay to sustain the pensions of retires. Like everyone else you keep confusing the city workers from MTA workers.
LOL...They should send these camera's down underground at night and watch the capital contruction guys on the night tour and then I want to hear people talk and complain about loafting...How many people get killed every year at your jobs?
