1,000 thumbs up. Just to see everybody in the band fucked up/wasted for the entire video. And the beauty of it is that they were fucked on them all. The irony is in the beauty, anger, and sociopathic attitude contrasted with songs that will never fade away. They didn't give a fuck...... they played fantastic songs...songs that will never go away, thank Christ! One of the best bands of all time. Only my opinion, but the only one that matters. H.F.New Year............
I played this song on the jukebox at a bar last night and the freaking bartender cut it off halfway through. He said he'd heard better music in a sawmill, but you know what s**t he put on after, Cindy F***ing Lauper. I still want my dollar back.
I remember when I first listened to this song, I thought there was something wrong with my CD player......how we grow to understand things. Best JAMC song.
looks like the 3 of them couldnt hold a up a moped between them never mind a motorbike so why wear leathers. and there guitars look like they bought them out of cash generator for £30 ..didnt there giro's stretch as far as to buy a gretsch..............but to be honest i thought they where cool but never listend to them when they where out because my sisters said they where crap well they had a point ......... bobby gillespie is bloody crap though . the mary chain are ok
Some love songs sing about the cute side of falling in love. The buying each other nice things, looking in each others eyes and all that, .... and some love songs write about the pain of breaking up and all the bad shit of being in love. This song does something completely original, it takes all the pleasure and the pain of love, and sonically fuses them together, just like they ARE fused together in real life. Sometimes mere pop music really can be ART.
1st heard these guys on Peel in '85 then rushed out and got the 1st album, along with Husker's 'Flip Your Wig' . Noise and melody, that's the best. This song is still brilliant. What a solo!
@amazonaaaa It is indeed Bobby Gillespie on the drums, he was the drummer for Psychocandy but the band said 'it's either us or Primal Scream' so he left
a young bobby gillespie, pretty cool to have been in two of the best bands ever to grace the planet. he still couldn't play drums tho but I suppose that was the point!
I was heavily into the JAMC after I saw them on the Whistle test in March 1985. I bought this track after seeing the vid on Max Headroom a few weeks later. This is them at their very best. For a youth in early 1980s UK, the JAMC were very influential, when you consider that the mainstream were listening to Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet, the JAMC were a much needed kick in the teeth for the music industry and it kickstarted a whole new indie movement, much to the despair of many a parent! Class!
I seriously can't think of why one lone individual would come seek out a 25 year old music video to dislike it unless something really traumatic happened like he watched his high school sweetheart blow some 7-11 clerk behind a dumpster while this played in 1985.
When first heard this i thought i'd been played something dark, forbidden... something about the feedback, the tribal surf drums, the leather... SEX! ...don't know about the Vox abuse tho boys. Beautiful!
I recently discovered The Jesus and Mary Chain, and now I'm wondering how I went so long without this band in my life. The singer's voice is nothing short of spectacular, and I can't get enough of those guitars.
@BarneyRubble1968 Stuck it up on Mediafire for you but youtube won't let me post the comment if it has a URL I guess. go to mediafire dotcom and add this to the URL ?f8c0xn8b48x1qmo .
Veggie Magnet.... . Thanks for your wonderfully worded and sensitive response....! Sometimes you can get into some really hard edged, grown up and informed debates on YT (often about musical genres and tastes etc..). Clearly this is not possible in view of your need to communicate like a Neanderthal (see Wikipedia). A tad embarrassing for a 46 year old don't you think..?
@ahpollyolly Get off of your high horse, man. People can listen to whatever they want. I'm not going to judge you for favoriting a Phantom of the Opera video-- I think you could have the decency to give others the same curtosy. Also, the number of chords doesn't necessarily make a great song. Many blues songs have ONE chord-- are you going to deny the importance of the blues?
@ahpollyolly You're right- dull pop songs played while standing too close to their amps. But back in 1985 it sounded like nothing we had heard before. Our parents heard us listening to that and became worried...which is what rock 'n' roll (and punk rock) is really all about. JAMC's crushing noise and dissonance layered over melody has formed the blueprint for much of the alternative, lo fi, indie music genres that's followed. You may hate those genres, but you can't deny this band's relevance.
@ahpollyolly Well, he may not have put it in the form that you may have appreciated but i do find it odd that you even ended up on this page, one which is quite obviously intended for fans of this music. It could be asked, however, whether you have released a gold selling UK album. Surely you must have. I mean, as you say, it only requires some substance abuse and three chords does it not?
I am listening to the "Power of Negative Thinking" and the whole box set it is so FN brilliant. They do a version of this song that I listen to over and over again. The Chain kick ass!
Such a great song, I was one of those 80's kids dressed all in black putting up with people's crap...and to some people this band may sound dark, but they made me feel happy when I listened to them...I need to get another copy of Barbed Wire Kisses!
Now, I'm turning 41, still wearing all black.... ;)

Nothing unique in three chords, substance abuse and a lack of any real talent...
The late pimp MaClaren made a mint out of Lydon and the boys in the seventies..
Actually it's not the banal noise that makes me smile - it's just that they so very honestly believed that this stuff was relevant and entertaining...
Bet they're all grown up now - balding - wear sensible shoes and have day jobs and children..
