@soepil Deffo not a Linn! I remember Mark saying that they couldn't afford a lot of gear, and Linn's were so expensive! Possibly an Oberheim...but that clap sample I can hear.. I can also hear it on Visage's 'Moon over Moscow'
@FrankNFurter1000 @: You're right. There were quite a lot of lesser-known brands of drum machines around at that time, as you know. So it's anyones guess what it could be.
IMO: "The Art of Falling Apart'' is a wonderful album written by an art school band that got caught up in the 1980s 'music' machine due to a massive hit that mis-represented and obscured the rest of their inspiring back catalog. It is unfortunate that most people will never listen to anything other than 'Tainted Love'. Listen to both Marc and Dave's solo outputs and all of their great collaborations from this time! So much good music to choose from!!
God I like soft cell I cant believe the audience is so quiet they must be on heroine or something opium where they look unreal and freaky but I guess they had no flavor! this is good to have a little of Soft Cell on here I wish there were more Performances to choose from But ooh well I hope these guys decide to tour again one day and sing there odd old dark songs again to get there respect back before they stop making music forever! Good journey guys God Bless
Marc had a faulty mic 2 songs before that it got replaced, and he got so pissed off that he just threw the new one to the ground after singin this last song.
Reasons *not* to let the artist pick the songs part 1. Here we see the classic case of 'critical acclaim' killing commercial success. Great album, but self indulgent, spiteful and nasty. Either a lack of inspiration wrote this record, or sheer detest for those that made him successful.
@DukeOfKempshott Yeah, awesome. Nothing you just said makes any sense in connection to this video, this song, this group, or the album "The Art of Falling Apart." But keep making those wonderfully insightful comments!!!
@Fantumh The audience (ie the money spending public) say it better than I ever could - but it's like they say in The Sixth Sense "They don't know they are dead, they only see what they want to see..."
Two options: Everybody is fuckingly stoned or it seems that the audience are there as a favor, however, Marc always put the whole of his feelings in his works, a wonderful artist and a fucking great Dave Ball!
Makes sense he would write ENTERTAIN ME. The 80's thing was to look unaffected. Or was that just a British thing? I remember going to clubs in San Francisco and if you smiled while you were dancing you were just "so 70's". Nobody wanted to look like a total groupie even though we were. lol
@1967sfoman Totally makes sense he would write that - this audience sucks! I wasn't old enough to be there then, but when I saw Soft Cell in NYC a few years back, and Marc solo in Philly I was insane.
@GKOSTI I know it is a riot the audience looks dead, i would be so excited if i was there, my god to see them do this and Martin wow those are two of my favorite Soft Cell songs. people are weird.

Can anyone give me the drum machine model?

@FrankNFurter1000 : I'm not sure, but it doesn't sound like a LinnDrum or Roland. Could it be an Oberheim DMX ?? Only Dave Ball knows ...

In a real way, the 80's was midway between the birth of liberalism and revolt of the indigenous population of Britain to take their country back!

Love Soft Cell and Marc! Damn, if I was in that audience...I would've appreciated it! Those sorts of crowds don't deserve it. :(
