How childish to use ignorant men who claim to know God as an excuse not to know Him. Evil men do evil things in the name of God and you brilliant people figure that gives you license to assert that God either doesn't exist or that He too is evil. I don't know whether to laugh or throw up.
@tardwhisperer How do I know that your own "claim to know god" is the one and only authentic one? By the way, I never mentioned "evil men doing evil things in the name of god." If you'd listened to the video, you'd know that I only said that everyone who claimed to be "speaking for god" said something wildly different from the next person, so different that they couldn't possibly be talking about the same god.
@KaraRvn--Since you asked nicely, I will politely answer. Anyone who truly wishes to know the truth will seek after it. When they seek diligently for it, they will certainly find it. Therefore we can conclude that those who find themselves wondering about it have already encountered it and disregarded it in favor of a more comfortable truth. You endevour to explain away something simply because it makes you uncomfortable without giving it the proper attention and thought that it deserves.
@KaraRvn--No, not at all. Agnostics cry "show me the evidence" and yet the evidence is limitless and all around you so there I go kicking a dead horse expecting a person suffering from denial to do anything other than be contradictory regardless of the truth of my statements. "Don't cast your pearls before swine."
@MyContext I've looked over his comments, and I don't think he even watched this video. If he does present "evidence," I think the odds are good that it will be some glurgey urban legends that were disproved years ago.
Is that a real cloud formation behind Bush? If it is, I may have to rethink my atheism, because it clearly looks like god is flipping Bush the "bird."
This video is very well done... I could really sense your newfound freedom on discovering atheism, although I've never felt that myself. If ever I tell myself there are no gods, it just feels like I'm lying to myself. And I also wonder about how many Wiccan turned atheists there are; maybe there's a poll somewhere floating around the internets? But I would wonder about the connection there, too.
@PerianArdocyl Interesting! Thank you for sharing your own story.
I think the trick is not to tell yourself there are no gods, but to turn your attention to what convinced you that there were any in the first place. For most people, the aforementioned "personal experiences" convinced them. But certain books helped me take a step back and realized the nature of those experiences--i.e. that's just what the mind does. I recommend Carl Sagan's "Demon Haunted World."
@KaraRvn I've heard people mention something along those lines; that religion/spirituality is a very human way of trying to make sense of a very confusing reality. I like what you said about trying to remember how you came to believe; such a thing could make or break a person's faith, but if it's truly one worth keeping, then I think they ought to take the risk and find the answers.
It was through the Wicca that I discovered one of my favorite musical artists.
She hails from Canada, and her name is: Loreena McKennit
Meh...I found the Wicca a little strange, casting spells and such, but they are benign and harmless compared to Christian Fundamentalists (or Muslim Fundamentalists).
@Nessrriinn Yes, they really do. That's the amazing thing about the Internet, really, so much exposure to so many people and ideas. It makes it hard to persist in your own ignorance or prejudice.
And phillhelenes' videos are awesome, especially "Why didn't anybody tell me?"
@LordSlag Glad you like it! It's kind of embarrassing, really, telling others that I used to believe in many gods...but hey, at least I never rolled around on the floor and spoke in tongues. :-P
@KaraRvn I liked it very much, though don't be embarrassed, we are all attacked/indoctrinated at our base at an early age and refused the critical thinkingtools with which to deal with that. If I might now ask a favor of you: Watch my featured video and participate to help support the advancement of science. It will cost you nothing. And thanks for subbing to me! :)

@tardwhisperer So everyone whose god concept is different from yours is simply not being diligent enough?

@tardwhisperer "...and yet the evidence is limitless..." Please tell me of this evidence.... Since, I have seen lots of attribution, but no evidence.

@KaraRvn You are probably right, however, I am ever hopeful that some will wake up from the mindless "it must be true" state...

@MyContext Evid3nc3 managed to wake up at least. His videos are amazing. :-)
