I just wanted to say your tank is phenomenal! I've watched your vid about 10+ times and honestly could watch over and over again. I'm fairly new to the hobby, about 6 months in, and you've inspired me. I upgraded to a 125 for the moment and have American Cichlids (GT, RT, JAG, Midas, Jack Dempsey, and a Honduran). Cen't figure out how to get my large pieces of drift wood to sink though...any suggestions? Either way keep it up and I look forward to seeing more updates.
@twizted2334 Thanks for the kind words. The only thing you can do is to keep soaking the timber. I have had some pieces that took over a month to sink.
Your tank is INSANE!!!!!! I was wondering if you could check out my vid cuz im not sure if my red devil/midas is male or female cuz i really wana know??
@Yeueow Powerglos are just fluorescent bulbs. They cost about $40-$50 a bulb here but they worth every penny.. I only run 3 at the front of this tank.
nice tank. huge jag, i used to have a bunch a few years ago. my biggest was only about 10" but its bottom 2 fangs were around 3-4mm visible when it closed its mouth. never seen another jag with fangs like that have you???
This vid with that song gets listened to at least 2 times a day for the last 6 weeks since finding it, Greenterra. Thanks for turning me onto this song, and posting your sick tank to it for all our enjoyment. -Cookie*420
What is your large black and white fish? After watching your vid and updates I'm thinking of goig this route with my 375. I had oscars and dempseys but you variety is killer! Love it!
Hey man.... Youre tank is awsome, but dont you think it would look even better with a Jack dempsey or Arrowana. Those fish would be cool in this tank ty for posting this video and have a nice day
@DonnnixD I am only running 2 x 300W heaters in the sump/filter. They keep up to it easily. The tanks thick sides really help to hold in the heat. I place a quilt over the top in winter and that has been more than enough even while the ambient air temp was only 2 degrees Celsius. In summer, I let it do what it want's. The larger volume stops the tank temp from rising too fast so it only seems to raise a couple of degrees on the hottest days.
GreenTerra- After watching the video for 4 times, I have to comment. I could only hope to have such a killer setup with great specimens like yours. I'm a big fan of the black backgrounds/bottoms and your tanks illustrates exactly why- it brings out the colors of the fish more. Absolutely beautiful tank and fish...and good song too!
Perfect ! Huge fish in perfect condition , you have all the displays and attitude with none if the destruction . But when that RT gets same size as Jag you may be in trouble mate lol
i came across a cool lookind cichlid today at a local fish store and had some Questions the pet store ppl couldnt answer. this cichlid is called a 5 star general and i was wondering how big do they get and how aggressive are they and one more Q coulda 10inch dovii go with a 10 inch red devil and a10inch black belt i was told the black belt could kill the dovii and the red devil could too.
@TheFishfrog Never kept one. I think they get to around 6-7" and are meant to be pretty aggressive too. There are a few members on Mosterfishkeepers that have them so maybe jump on there and ask?
As for your other question. The RD, BB and Dovii are all capable of killing each other. It comes down to individual temperament. This mix is realistically only doable in very very large tanks. I have already removed a BB and a dovii from my 800g due to aggression.
@TheFishfrog It is not the jag I was worried about. I couldn't tell you his age. He was reasonably large when I picked him up. The rest have been growing out for about 14 mths now.
does your tank creat alot of algae and do u have plecos to keep it down? were did u get wood that big i got some for my 30gal and my texas and his fry love it.
@Coltons350z Unfortunately, it decided it didn't like the trimac the other night. I woke up to a lei with a broken bottom jaw and a badly beat up trimac. I had to put the lei down and unfortunately the trimac didn't survive so the tank is looking a little bare at present. Such is fish keeping sometimes.
The larger the tank the cleaner it will be i suppose

hey Greenterra im interested in how to maintain a stable temperature for your fish.
Because its outdoors and it's huge, what heating method do you use? and how do you cool down the hot QLD heat?

@28rampage Have never measured him. The jag is closer to the 16" mark now so you can compare to him..

awesome vid, suprisingly the gt looks the most aggressive in there but i love the way the jag shows everyone who's top dog..
28rampage 1 year ago
@28rampage Yeah, the jag is definitely the undisputed king. Considering the GT is the smallest in there, he has some nuts about him.
